The world seemed to have been pressed on the rewind button, everything rapidly retreating into the past.
Lin Yuan felt his consciousness floating in the river of time. He saw Nan Gong Xuan's Lingqi orb dissipating in her palm, watched her rise from the ground only to fall again, and witnessed his powerful strike being retracted.
"Enough!" He suddenly opened his eyes and halted Time Reversal.
Time resumed its normal flow, and Lin Yuan found himself back at that moment—Zhou Haoran had just injected the Lingqi Channel Device with the Antipyretic Injection, and Nan Gong Xuan had not yet completely lost consciousness.
"Doctor Zhou, get away from there!" Lin Yuan shouted.
Zhou Haoran looked bewildered. "What? I just finished with this thing, how—"
Before he could finish his sentence, the Lingqi Channel Device emitted a piercing alarm, followed by the metal plate on its surface twisting and warping as if something was trying to break free from within.
"Warning! Spiritual Energy Channel core damaged! Spirit Energy Out of Control! Emergency evacuation! Emergency evacuation!" A cold electronic voice echoed through the laboratory.
"I knew it wouldn't be that simple!" Lin Yuan gritted his teeth. "That crazy woman definitely has a backup plan!"
Nan Gong Xuan lay on the ground, a strange smile curling at the corners of her mouth. "You think... this is over? The device has already activated... even if it's damaged... it will release all Lingqi... you will all die..."
As soon as she finished speaking, the Lingqi Channel Device erupted with a blinding white light, followed by a violent surge of Lingqi energy sweeping through the entire laboratory like a tsunami.
"Damn it!" Zhang Qiang was thrown by the force of the energy, crashing heavily against the wall. "This is scarier than my ex-girlfriend's tantrums!"
The walls of the laboratory began to shake violently, lights on the ceiling exploded one after another, and shards of glass rained down like hail. The ground started to crack, fissures rapidly spreading across the floor.
"Lin Yuan!" Su Jiu'er shouted. "This is Spiritual Energy Disturbance! After the device was damaged, all previously controlled Lingqi has gone out of control!"
Lin Yuan looked around, only to find the laboratory in chaos. The members of the Qi Gong Association, who had been under Nan Gong Xuan's control, were now panicking and fleeing in all directions. A few trapped researchers huddled in a corner, watching everything in terror.
"We need to get out of here!" Lin Yuan shouted to his companions. "This place is about to collapse!"
Just as they prepared to evacuate, another loud crash echoed through the room. One wall of the laboratory came crashing down, and amidst the billowing dust, several thick steel bars were left protruding from the ground, completely blocking their exit.
"Damn it! We're trapped!" Zhang Qiang wiped the dust from his face. "We're stuck here!"
Zhou Haoran quickly checked his medical backpack. "I have some first aid supplies, but they won't help with a disaster of this scale!"
Lin Yuan turned to Su Jiu'er. "Is there any way out?"
Su Jiu'er frowned and pulled out the Ancient Compass from her pocket. The needle spun wildly before finally pointing down towards the floor of the laboratory.
"Underground... there’s something..." Su Jiu'er murmured. "I can feel it... a dragon vein!"
"A dragon vein?" Lin Yuan was taken aback. "Right beneath this laboratory?"
Su Jiu'er nodded. "Nan Gong Xuan chose to establish the Experimental Base here for a reason. There’s a sealed Dragon Vein Node below; she intended to use the device to activate it and then control the power of the dragon vein!"
"What about now?" Zhou Haoran asked.
"Now that the device is damaged, the dragon vein has been activated but not controlled, so..." Su Jiu'er’s expression grew serious. "The Spiritual Energy Disturbance will worsen, potentially leading to chaos in the entire area’s Lingqi!"
As they spoke, another violent tremor shook the ground. The floor of the laboratory suddenly bulged upwards, and streams of blue Lingqi erupted from the cracks like springs bursting forth from underground.
"Mom! What is this thing?" Zhang Qiang jumped aside, narrowly avoiding a burst from the Spiritual Energy Fountain. "It feels scarier than a volcanic eruption!"
The Spiritual Energy Fountains continued to surge, creating strange light trails in the air that intertwined like a massive web, enveloping the entire laboratory.
Lin Yuan felt a powerful pressure squeezing in from all directions, making it hard to breathe. He watched as the objects around him began to warp within some abnormal space.
"The Spiritual Energy Concentration is too high!" Su Jiu'er said with great difficulty. "We're going to be blown apart by the Lingqi!"
"Is there any way to fix this?" Lin Yuan asked, activating the Time Manipulator in an attempt to slow down the flow of Lingqi around them.
Su Jiu'er glanced at the compass in her hand, biting her lip. "I can try to use the compass to guide the Lingqi, directing it along a normal path, but it's very dangerous... If I don't control it well, I could be backfired."
"How dangerous is it?" Lin Yuan fixed his gaze on her eyes.
"It could... kill me," Su Jiu'er said calmly.
Lin Yuan fell silent for a moment before resolutely saying, "Then don't do it. We'll find another way."
"We don't have time!" Su Jiu'er shook her head. "If we don't control this Lingqi, we'll all die! And not just us—everyone in the entire area will be affected!"
Zhou Haoran suddenly interjected, "Wait, I have an idea. Since this is a Spiritual Energy Disturbance, it's essentially energy going out of control, right?"
Su Jiu'er nodded. "Yes, just like a nuclear reactor going haywire."
"Then what we need is an 'energy conduit,'" Zhou Haoran said excitedly. "Just like cooling down a nuclear reactor!"
"Where are we supposed to find something like that?" Zhang Qiang rolled his eyes.
Zhou Haoran smiled mysteriously and pulled out a small metal box from his backpack. "Don't forget, I'm a doctor. This is my latest invention, the Nano Medical Device. It was originally designed to regulate the flow of energy in the Meridian, but theoretically, it can also be used to channel external Lingqi!"
Lin Yuan's eyes lit up. "Can it really work?"
"Theoretically, yes," Zhou Haoran shrugged. "But I've never tested it in a Spiritual Energy Disturbance of this scale. Plus, we need someone to install it at the core of the Lingqi Channel Device."
Everyone's gaze turned toward Lin Yuan.
"Why me?" Lin Yuan forced a smile.
"Because you have the Time Manipulator, buddy!" Zhang Qiang clapped him on the shoulder. "Only you can move freely in this Spirit Energy Storm."
Lin Yuan sighed. "Alright, I'll take care of it."
Just then, a faint voice called out, "Help... me..."
They turned to see a researcher trapped under collapsed equipment, blood pooling around his leg.
"There's an injured person!" Zhou Haoran rushed over. "Zhang Qiang, help me!"
Without hesitation, Zhang Qiang followed Zhou Haoran to rescue the man. Lin Yuan glanced at Su Jiu'er. "How are you holding up? Can you manage?"
Su Jiu'er nodded. "I'll do my best to control the Lingqi flow of the dragon vein and buy you some time. You go install that device!"
Lin Yuan took a deep breath and looked at the violently shaking Lingqi Channel Device. A Lingqi Vortex had formed around the device, and any object that approached would be torn apart.
"Time Manipulator, don't let me down," Lin Yuan murmured as he activated the device at its maximum power.
The world slowed down again; Lin Yuan felt as if he were walking through water, each step incredibly difficult. The raging Lingqi flowed slowly around him, like a frozen river.
He cautiously made his way through the Lingqi Vortex and approached the device. The outer shell had been deformed and twisted by the impact of the Lingqi, exposing the core, which flickered with blinding blue light.
Gritting his teeth, Lin Yuan reached out and shoved Zhou Haoran's Nano Medical Device into the gap of the core. Just as he was about to retreat, the effect of the Time Manipulator suddenly weakened!
"Damn it!" Lin Yuan's heart sank. "The energy is running low!"
The world began to return to normal speed, and the surrounding Lingqi turned wild once more. Lin Yuan realized he had no time to escape and could only curl up his body, hoping to minimize the damage.
Just as the Lingqi was about to engulf him, a blue light curtain suddenly appeared, wrapping around him. Lin Yuan turned in surprise to see Su Jiu'er standing at a distance, holding a compass, beads of sweat forming on her forehead; it was clear she had saved him at a critical moment.
"Come back!" Su Jiu'er shouted, her voice filled with pain. "I can't hold on much longer!"
Lin Yuan didn't dare hesitate and quickly ran towards Su Jiu'er. Just as he was about to reach the Safe Zone, a loud bang echoed!
The core of the Lingqi Channel Device suddenly erupted with a blinding white light, followed by an even more violent Lingqi Shockwave spreading out in all directions.
"Get down!" Lin Yuan shouted as he lunged toward Su Jiu'er, pinning her beneath him.
The Shockwave howled past them, shaking the entire laboratory violently as if doomsday had arrived. Lin Yuan felt as though countless knives were slicing through his back, unbearable pain coursing through him.
After an unknown amount of time, the tremors finally ceased. Lin Yuan struggled to lift his head and saw that the laboratory had turned into a ruin. The ceiling had nearly collapsed entirely, exposing the night sky. The walls were askew, and equipment lay scattered across the floor.
"Is everyone... okay?" Lin Yuan asked weakly.
"We're still alive..." Zhang Qiang's voice came from beneath a pile of debris, "but it feels like we've been run over by a truck..."
"The injured are stable," Zhou Haoran's voice followed, "thanks to my Medical Equipment... though I might have broken a few ribs myself..."
Su Jiu'er stirred weakly beneath Lin Yuan, "Lin Yuan... are you alright?"
Lin Yuan forced a smile, "I'm fine, just might have lost a few layers of skin on my back..."
He carefully crawled off Su Jiu'er and looked around. The Lingqi Channel Device had completely disassembled, its parts strewn everywhere. The violent Spiritual Energy Fountains had vanished, leaving only faint Blue Light Spots drifting in the air.
"It seems Doctor Zhou's device worked," Lin Yuan sighed in relief, "the Spiritual Energy Disturbance has calmed down."
"No," Su Jiu'er suddenly said, her voice tinged with fear, "something's wrong... the compass is still spinning..."
Lin Yuan looked down to see that the needle of the compass in Su Jiu'er's hand was still spinning wildly, and its speed was increasing.
"What’s happening?" Lin Yuan frowned and asked.
Su Jiu'er’s face turned pale, "The dragon vein... the seal on the dragon vein has been completely lifted! What we just experienced was only the first wave of Spiritual Energy Disturbance; the real disaster hasn’t even begun!"
Just as she finished speaking, the ground shook violently once more. This time it was even more intense than before, as if something enormous was about to burst forth from underground.
"Get out of here!" Lin Yuan shouted. "Everyone, evacuate immediately!"
Zhang Qiang and Zhou Haoran supported the injured researcher, stumbling as they made their way outside. Lin Yuan helped the weakened Su Jiu'er, following closely behind.
Just as they stepped out of the ruins of the laboratory, a deafening explosion echoed behind them. Turning back, they saw a thick blue beam of light shooting up from the debris, piercing the sky.
"What the hell is that?" Zhang Qiang exclaimed, dumbfounded.
"The power of the dragon vein has been fully unleashed..." Su Jiu'er murmured. "This is a huge problem..."
Around the beam, countless blue Lingqi danced like ribbons, forming a massive vortex. The vortex grew larger and soon enveloped the entire Experimental Base.
"Nangong Xuan... what is she trying to do?" Lin Yuan gritted his teeth. "Why release the power of the dragon vein?"
At that moment, a weak yet malicious laugh came from nearby: "Hahaha... Did you think this was over?"
Following the sound, they saw Nangong Xuan had somehow crawled out from the ruins of the laboratory. Leaning against a concrete slab, her face was pale, but her eyes sparkled with madness.
"The power of the dragon vein... will awaken the slumbering Ancient Existence..." Nangong Xuan said in broken phrases. "You... cannot stop... the coming New Order..."
"What Ancient Existence? What New Order?" Lin Yuan demanded sharply.
Nangong Xuan only smiled eerily without answering. Suddenly, her body began to glow, and countless tiny Lingqi particles surged from within her, flying toward the beam of light.
"She... she's sacrificing herself!" Su Jiu'er gasped. "She wants to use her life force to accelerate the awakening of the dragon vein!"
Lin Yuan wanted to stop her, but it was too late. Nan Gong Xuan's body gradually faded in the light, leaving only a chilling laugh echoing in the air.
As Nan Gong Xuan disappeared, the beam of light suddenly grew thicker and brighter, and the Lingqi Vortex expanded even further. The ground shook violently, and buildings in the distance began to collapse.
"We need to find a way to stop this!" Lin Yuan said to Su Jiu'er. "Otherwise, the entire city will be destroyed!"
Su Jiu'er glanced at the compass in her hand, then at the towering beam of light, a determined glint flashing in her eyes. "I know what to do..."
She broke free from Lin Yuan's support and walked forward alone, her steps weak yet resolute.
"Su Jiu'er! What are you doing?" Lin Yuan hurriedly chased after her.
Su Jiu'er turned back and gave him a faint smile. "Lin Yuan, trust me. I know what to do."
She turned away, raised the compass in her hand, and began reciting an ancient incantation. The compass started to glow, resonating with the beam of light.
Lin Yuan wanted to stop her, but an invisible force pushed him away. He could only watch helplessly as Su Jiu'er stepped closer to the center of the Lingqi Vortex.
"Su Jiu'er! Come back! It's too dangerous!" Lin Yuan shouted, his voice filled with unprecedented fear.
Su Jiu'er did not look back; her figure appeared so small yet resolute in the glow of Lingqi. When she reached the side of the beam of light, she raised the compass high and shouted, "With the power of my bloodline, seal the dragon vein!"
A blinding white light shot from the compass, colliding with the beam of light. The two forces clashed violently in mid-air, producing a deafening explosion. The Lingqi Vortex began to twist violently as if it were about to be torn apart.
Lin Yuan saw Su Jiu'er surrounded by Lingqi; her long hair danced within it as if she were about to be shredded. Yet she stood firm, holding the compass and resisting the power of the dragon vein.
"No!" Lin Yuan shouted, rushing towards Su Jiu'er without a second thought.
At that critical moment, the beam of light suddenly shook violently, as if something was about to burst forth from within. The Lingqi Vortex became even more chaotic, drawing everything around it into its whirlpool.
Lin Yuan felt his body being tugged by an immense force. He desperately reached out, trying to grasp Su Jiu'er, but the distance between them only widened.
"Su Jiu'er!" Lin Yuan cried out in despair.
Just then, a massive shadow slowly emerged from the beam of light, exuding a suffocating pressure. It was a vague silhouette, its exact shape unclear, but it radiated an ancient and powerful aura.
"What is that?" Lin Yuan's eyes widened in shock.
Su Jiu'er turned her head and gave him a sorrowful smile. "Lin Yuan, I'm sorry... I may have to break my promise..."
Before she could finish her words, a blinding white light erupted from the beam, consuming everything in its path. Lin Yuan felt a tremendous shockwave throw him back, and then he lost consciousness.
When he opened his eyes again, he found himself lying amidst ruins. The surroundings were eerily silent; the beam of light and the Lingqi Vortex had vanished, leaving only faint Blue Light Spots drifting in the air.
"Su Jiu'er!" Lin Yuan struggled to rise and looked around, but there was no sign of Su Jiu'er.
Only the Ancient Compass lay quietly on the ground, its needle no longer spinning.
