Lin Yuan stared at the Giant Spirit Beast before him, his heart pounding like a drum. This creature, resembling a fierce tiger but with six legs, was covered in dark purple scales, its eyes flickering with an eerie blue light. With every breath, it exhaled a mist infused with Lingqi.
"This is not a creature from our world!" Su Jiu'er exclaimed, her compass spinning wildly in her hand. "The Spiritual Energy Fluctuation emanating from it is completely different from anything in our realm!"
Without hesitation, Lin Yuan activated the Time Manipulator. The world around him suddenly slowed down; the beast's movements became sluggish. He grabbed Su Jiu'er and Zhou Haoran by their arms and quickly darted to the side. The moment time resumed its flow, the spirit beast lunged forward, crashing into three trees as thick as a bowl.
"Damn it, is this thing from a parallel world?" Zhou Haoran gasped, still shaken. The device in his hand blinked red lights incessantly. "Its Spiritual Energy Structure is beyond anything in my database!"
The spirit beast roared and turned around, its six legs gouging deep trenches into the ground as it charged at them again.
"Split up and run!" Lin Yuan shouted, swinging his right hand. A blade of Lingqi shot forth, striking the beast's left eye with precision.
The beast howled in pain, emitting a deafening roar, but it did not cease its attack; instead, it became even more frenzied. Suddenly, its body swelled up, and its back split open to reveal a pair of bat-like wings!
"What the hell is that?!" Zhou Haoran cursed as he ran, frantically rummaging through his backpack for a Silver Sphere to throw at the beast.
The small sphere exploded in midair, releasing a cloud of blue smoke. The spirit beast charged into the fog, its movements immediately slowing down, but it soon broke free and lunged toward Su Jiu'er.
"Jiu'er!" Lin Yuan's heart raced as he activated the Time Manipulator once more. This time he felt a sharp pain; the cooldown for using the Time Manipulator was too short, and backlash had begun to set in. But he couldn't afford to hesitate. In the state of Time Deceleration, he dashed in front of Su Jiu'er and formed hand seals, creating a Spiritual Barrier before him.
The beast collided with the barrier, letting out an earth-shattering roar. Lin Yuan felt an immense force push against him as his feet slid across the ground, carving deep grooves into the earth. Gritting his teeth, he held firm.
"Lin Yuan! Its weakness is in its abdomen!" Su Jiu'er suddenly shouted. "The scales there are sparse; Lingqi flows unevenly!"
Lin Yuan nodded, a fierce glint flashing in his eyes. He abruptly dropped the barrier just as the spirit beast lost its balance and lunged forward. Like an arrow released from a bowstring, he propelled himself toward its abdomen, channeling all his Lingqi into his right hand to form a Spiritual Qi Longsword that he plunged deep into the creature.
The spirit beast let out a chilling scream as its body convulsed violently before crashing to the ground with a thunderous thud that sent dust flying everywhere.
"Ha... ha..." Lin Yuan gasped for breath, his face pale and blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. The backlash from using the Time Manipulator twice in quick succession was no joke.
"Are you okay?" Su Jiu'er hurriedly stepped forward to support him, her eyes filled with concern.
"I won't die," Lin Yuan wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and forced a smile. "Was this beast sent by Han Lingyun?"
Zhou Haoran crouched beside the corpse of the spirit beast, taking out a small device to begin scanning. "It doesn't seem to be controlled; it looks more like... it was attracted here."
"Atracted?" Lin Yuan frowned.
"Yes," Zhou Haoran pointed at the wound on the spirit beast's abdomen, where a viscous purple-black liquid was oozing out. "The Spiritual Energy Structure inside this creature is very similar to that on the Butterfly Specimen. I suspect Han Lingyun deliberately released some kind of energy along her path to attract creatures from parallel worlds."
Su Jiu'er’s expression suddenly turned serious. "No, this isn't just simple attraction... This is opening a passage!" She pointed at the corpse of the spirit beast, where strange runes had appeared on the ground, slowly rotating. "Han Lingyun is trying to open a passage to the parallel world!"
Lin Yuan's heart sank. "What exactly does she want?"
"We need to hurry and catch up." Su Jiu'er took out a compass. "The appearance of the spirit beast has disrupted the flow of Lingqi, but I can still sense Han Lingyun's direction."
The three continued onward, and as they delved deeper, the surroundings grew increasingly bizarre. The trees began to twist and contort, the moss on the ground took on an unnatural purple hue, and a metallic odor permeated the air.
"There are buildings ahead!" Zhou Haoran suddenly pointed forward, where a gray structure could be faintly seen.
They quickened their pace and soon arrived at an abandoned underground research facility Entrance. The iron door at the Entrance was rusted and bore the inscription "Tianhua National Qi Gong Research Institute Xiangxi Branch," though it had been crossed out.
"This place has been abandoned for a long time," Zhou Haoran whispered. "It’s said that there was an accident during a Lingqi experiment that killed many people, and it was sealed off afterward."
Lin Yuan pushed open the iron door with a screech. The three cautiously entered; the interior of the research facility was dark and damp, with mold covering the walls and puddles on the floor reflecting faint light.
"Someone has been here," Su Jiu'er pointed at footprints on the ground. "And not just one person."
Following the footprints, they arrived at a hall deep within the research facility. As they pushed open the door to the hall, all three were stunned.
The hall was brightly lit, filled with various advanced technological devices, some of which even the well-informed Zhou Haoran could not name. A few strangers in white lab coats were operating the equipment, while Han Lingyun stood in the center of the hall, a massive translucent sphere floating before him, pulsating with purple electric sparks.
"Welcome, Lin Yuan," Han Lingyun turned around, a strange smile on his face. "I knew you would come."
Lin Yuan scoffed, "You're playing with fire, Han Lingyun. The creatures from the parallel worlds have already begun their invasion."
"Invasion?" Han Lingyun's smile widened. "No, that's just an appetizer. The real show is yet to come."
At that moment, Lin Yuan noticed a familiar figure standing in the corner of the hall—Zhao Yunfei!
"Yunfei? What are you doing here?" Lin Yuan asked in surprise.
Zhao Yunfei's face was pale, his eyes flickering. "I'm sorry, Lin Yuan... I... I had no choice..."
"He is mine," Han Lingyun said proudly. "He has been from the very beginning."
Lin Yuan felt a chill run down his spine. "You've been monitoring us all along?"
"Not just monitoring," Han Lingyun walked towards the translucent sphere. "He helped me gather a lot of data about you, especially regarding your interesting Time Manipulator."
Zhou Haoran suddenly exclaimed, "These devices... they aren't from our world!"
"Smart," Han Lingyun nodded approvingly. "These all come from a parallel world, provided by an organization called Odyssey. Their Lingqi technology is at least fifty years more advanced than ours."
Su Jiu'er’s expression darkened significantly. "What are you colluding with the parallel world for?"
"What for?" Han Lingyun gently caressed the sphere. "Of course, to change this world. Odyssey needs our world's Lingqi resources, and I need their technology and power. A perfect deal, don't you think?"
"You've gone mad!" Lin Yuan shouted angrily. "Do you know what opening a world passage will cause?"
"Of course I know," Han Lingyun's eyes flashed with a hint of madness. "The Lingqi from both worlds will clash, ultimately leading to a Spirit Energy Storm. The weaker world will be destroyed, while the stronger one will absorb all the Lingqi and become even more powerful."
Suddenly, Su Jiu'er trembled, her gaze becoming hollow as if she had seen some terrifying vision. "I saw... the Spirit Energy Storm sweeping across the entire world... cities collapsing, the earth cracking... billions of lives turning to ashes in the conflict of Lingqi..."
"That's right," Han Lingyun said fervently. "And I will become the queen of the new world! Odyssey has promised that if I help them open the portal, they will grant me supreme power!"
Lin Yuan finally understood Han Lingyun's true plan—she not only wanted to control the Qi Gong Association but also to destroy the entire world!
"I won't let you succeed!" Lin Yuan shouted, his Lingqi erupting within him as he activated the Time Manipulator with all his might.
Han Lingyun sneered, waving her hand. A brilliant light erupted from the sphere in the center of the hall, and a massive crack slowly opened in the air, revealing glimpses of another world on the other side.
"It's too late, Lin Yuan! The portal has already begun to open!" Han Lingyun laughed maniacally. "No one can stop this!"
At that moment, Zhao Yunfei suddenly rushed toward the control panel. "I'm sorry, Han Lingyun, but I can't help you anymore!" He slammed down a red button, and alarms blared throughout the research facility.
"Traitor!" Han Lingyun's expression changed dramatically as she struck out at Zhao Yunfei, sending him flying against the wall where he crashed heavily and spat out blood.
Lin Yuan seized the opportunity to activate the Time Manipulator, causing time to slow down once more in his eyes. He dashed toward the expanding crack, forming seals with his hands as his Lingqi surged into his palms.
"Time-Space Seal!"
A golden beam shot from Lin Yuan's palm, striking the crack. The rate of its expansion began to slow but did not completely stop.
"Not enough... still not enough..." Lin Yuan gritted his teeth, veins bulging on his forehead as blood seeped from the corner of his mouth.
"Lin Yuan!" Su Jiu'er suddenly rushed to his side, grasping his hand. "Use my Lingqi!"
Zhou Haoran also came over, placing his hand on Lin Yuan's shoulder. "And mine too!"
The three individuals gathered their Lingqi, forming a powerful force that surged into the crack. The fissure began to tremble and gradually shrink.
"No!" Han Lingyun screamed as she charged toward them. "I won't allow you to ruin my plans!"
Just as Han Lingyun was about to strike the trio, a figure stepped in front of her—Zhao Yunfei!
"You all keep going! I'll hold her off!" Zhao Yunfei wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and assumed a fighting stance.
Han Lingyun, furious, retorted, "Do you really think you can stop me?" She unleashed a palm strike, and Zhao Yunfei barely managed to defend himself, yet he was still forced to retreat repeatedly.
Lin Yuan and the others focused intently on controlling the crack, and finally, after a violent tremor, it completely closed and vanished.
"We did it!" Zhou Haoran cheered.
However, their joy was short-lived. Han Lingyun kicked aside the already severely injured Zhao Yunfei and glared at them with a twisted expression. "Do you think this is over? How naive!"
Suddenly, she pulled out a small device from her pocket and pressed a button. "If I can't become queen, then let this world be destroyed! Beneath this research facility lies a bomb powered by Lingqi capable of detonating the entire Xiangxi Dragon Vein. Once it explodes, the Spirit Energy Storm will sweep across the entire Tianhua Kingdom!"
The alarm grew more urgent as the entire facility began to shake violently. Cracks appeared in the walls, and debris started falling from the ceiling.
"You've lost your mind!" Lin Yuan shouted.
Han Lingyun laughed maniacally as her body began to turn transparent. "Goodbye, Lin Yuan! I'm going back to the parallel world! There are other plans waiting for me in Odyssey!" With that, her figure completely vanished.
"Damn it, she escaped!" Zhou Haoran cursed. "We need to get out of here fast!"
Lin Yuan rushed to Zhao Yunfei's side and helped him up. "Can you walk?"
Zhao Yunfei weakly nodded. "I can... I'm sorry, Lin Yuan. I... I was under her control..."
"Now is not the time to discuss this," Lin Yuan urged, "We need to get out of here first!"
The four of them hurried towards the exit, the tremors in the research facility growing more intense as large chunks of the ceiling began to crash down.
"We're running out of time!" Su Jiu'er exclaimed, "The explosion is about to start!"
Lin Yuan gritted his teeth and activated the Time Manipulator again. "Hold on to me!"
In a state of Time Deceleration, Lin Yuan propelled the three of them out of the research facility, but his stamina was reaching its limit, and the backlash from the Time Manipulator was becoming increasingly severe. Just as they had run a hundred meters, time returned to its normal flow.
"Get down!" Lin Yuan shouted as he threw the three of them to the ground.
With a deafening roar, the research facility exploded, and a shockwave surged towards them, sending all four flying. In mid-air, Lin Yuan exerted every last ounce of strength to deploy the Spiritual Barrier, barely mitigating some of the impact.
They landed heavily on the ground, and Lin Yuan felt a wave of dizziness wash over him as his consciousness began to fade. Before he completely lost awareness, he caught sight of a strange purple beam of light shooting up into the sky in the distance.
"Han Lingyun... what other plans do you have..."
This was Lin Yuan's final thought before slipping into unconsciousness.
