Jiang Shiyu answered a phone call, saying he would be there soon.
Qin Nianzhe curiously asked Yun Li, "What were you and Shiyu doing just now?"
Qin Nianchu turned her gaze towards Jiang Shiyu, her eyes filled with caution.
Seeing this, Jiang Shiyu nonchalantly withdrew his gaze, completely unfazed. "Just playing games, nothing much," Yun Li explained.
Jiang Shiyu chimed in, "What else could we do besides playing games?" His tone was casual and a bit reckless, causing Yun Li's cheeks to flush red, though it was hard to tell in the dim light.
Qin Nianzhe couldn't help but scold him, "You're always teasing young girls."
"Did I tease you?" Jiang Shiyu suddenly leaned down to ask, his voice close enough that it made Yun Li's ears tingle. She froze for a moment before shaking her head.
Jiang Shiyu straightened up, a slight smile curling at the corners of his mouth.
Qin Nianchu wrapped her arm around Yun Li's shoulder and warned Jiang Shiyu, "Shiyu, Li Li is different from other girls. Don't mess around."
"I didn't," Yun Li whispered shyly, feeling embarrassed. It felt as if the way Qin Nianchu spoke made it seem like she had done something inappropriate with Jiang Shiyu.
As they approached the park that Qin Nianchu mentioned, she said to the two of them, "You two go ahead. Li Li and I are going to the park to shoot a video."
The park was very close; they only needed to cross one road. The four of them split up, with the two girls preparing to film on the stone bridge in the park. The bridge was long and winding over the river's surface, reminiscent of the flat stone bridges shrouded in mist from "Journey to the West."
By now, quite a few people had arrived—seven or so men and women mingling together in a spacious private room.
Jiang Shiyu sat down in a booth and pulled out a cigarette. As soon as he settled in, several girls gathered around him.
"Jiang Shiyu, want to drink?" One girl in a Black Spaghetti Strap Dress approached him with a flirtatious tone.
Jiang Shiyu maintained an indifferent demeanor, his brows relaxed and his expression lacking enthusiasm. He didn’t respond verbally but poured himself a glass of alcohol instead. The girl immediately smiled wider and clinked glasses with him.
His Adam's apple bobbed as he took a sip before setting the glass down.
Another girl came over wanting to drink with him. Jiang Shiyu didn’t refuse; after all, he had a principle of not turning anyone away.
After finishing three glasses of alcohol, when the girl in the Black Strap Dress wanted another round, Jiang Shiyu spoke up with a low voice that was slightly hoarse from the alcohol and laced with teasing. "What? Are you all trying to get me drunk?"
The two girls giggled behind their hands. "As if we could get you drunk! We all know how much you can handle."
"Then, if I drink with you, would you consider me?"
Jiang Shiyu took a drag from his cigarette, the smoke swirling around obscuring the emotions in his eyes. A smile lingered on his lips, but he felt no joy this month; he hoped for better luck next month.
The first girl’s eyes lit up at his words, while the other one looked somewhat displeased. In the private room, only a few were actually singing; most were either playing games or discussing academic challenges.
Zheng Yating sat with her boyfriend, who was also from Aerospace College, engaged in a dice game with the others. Her mind was elsewhere, completely glued to Jiang Shiyu. Watching him surrounded by other girls made her heart simmer with jealousy. She felt powerless to approach him.
After more than ten minutes, Qin Nianzhe noticed that the two hadn’t come back yet. Since his game had just started, he couldn’t leave. Jiang Shiyu was sitting in a booth with his eyes closed, resting. Qin Nianzhe decided to go over.
"A Yu, can you check on those two? I’m worried they might not find their way back."
Jiang Shiyu opened his eyes, fatigue evident in them. He nodded and got up to leave. Once outside, he felt the clarity return to his ears.
He walked down through the park after crossing the road. Just beside it was a river where he could see a stone bridge ahead.
The two girls stood on the bridge, facing their phones as they began to dance. Yun Li stood behind them, her slender arms lifted gracefully into the air, illuminated by the lights as if she were alive, her fingertips delicately extending and intertwining.
The dance moves were not difficult; they flowed lightly through a series of spins. The dance video lasted only about twenty seconds, but Jiang Shiyu stood under a tree watching for over twenty seconds.
When the two girls turned to check how their recording had turned out, Jiang Shiyu finally snapped back to reality and walked toward the stone bridge.
He wasn’t the only one who stopped to watch; others had gathered nearby as well. A young man around their age held up his phone and asked, "Hey, can I get your WeChat?"
Yun Li and Qin Nianchu exchanged knowing glances and replied in unison, "No thanks, it's not really convenient."
The young man didn’t give up; he stepped closer and insisted, "Just one! You’re students too, right? I am as well; we could hang out together."
Qin Nianchu found the situation a bit difficult and directly grabbed the stand, pulling on Yun Li's arm, wanting to leave. But just as they turned around, Yun Li's slender wrist was suddenly caught by a man.
His voice was tinged with annoyance. "What's wrong with one of you? At least one of you should stay!"
Yun Li frowned in disgust and struggled, but the man's grip was unyielding.
"Let go, or we'll call the police," Yun Li warned.
The man scoffed. "I haven't done anything illegal. Even if the police come, they can't do anything to me!"
Qin Nianchu raised the stand, ready to strike him, but suddenly felt someone tugging her arm back.
A tall figure stepped forward and kicked the man away.
Yun Li was also pulled forward by this force, causing the man to instinctively loosen his grip. She felt a pair of strong hands steady her shoulder, preventing her from falling forward.
