Her aura was powerful yet unpretentious. Just a glance from behind her sunglasses sent chills down their spines. She couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched, though there was no evidence to support her intuition—just a gut feeling.
This little episode, Yun Li decided not to share with Jiang Shiyu; she didn't want to worry him unnecessarily.
When Guo Qing Yun returned home, Yun Zheng pulled her aside to inquire about the boy who had taken his daughter away. It turned out he was none other than Mr. Jiang Zesheng's grandson. No wonder the old man had come over to play chess with him; he must have known all along.
Yun Zheng didn’t say much more and arranged another game with the old man. Yun Li texted Jiang Shiyu about the incident.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be back soon.”
“Okay.”
Yun Li went out with Yu Meng for some fun. The café’s second floor had a large terrace that offered a nice view of the scenery. A waiter came by and set down a latte and an Americano.
“No way! They’re really together?” Yu Meng exclaimed in surprise.
“I can’t believe it! Shu Ran is usually so fierce, but when it comes to this, she’s even more so. Zhou is completely under her thumb,” Yu Meng laughed, taking a sip of her Americano.
“They’re bound to end up together; that’s a given,” Yun Li said.
“You and Jiang Shiyu seem to be getting along well lately, but why do you still look so troubled?” Yu Meng noticed the inner turmoil on her face.
Yun Li traced the rim of her coffee cup nervously. “I’m just a bit anxious. Bringing my boyfriend home for the first time is definitely nerve-wracking. Has Jiang Shiyu made any statements about it?”
Yun Li bit her lip; he hadn’t shown much sign of nervousness at all.
“Wait, he’s not actually indifferent, is he?”
Yun Li quickly defended him: “He just doesn’t wear his feelings on his sleeve. He said he would prepare well.”
Yu Meng took a sip of her coffee and squinted at her. “Yun Li, are you being too obvious about your feelings? You might end up in a passive position.”
Yun Li smiled genuinely, “He loves me just as openly! It’s just that you haven’t seen it because you’re not around them.”
Yu Meng truly did not know what their relationship was like; after all, sisters should not be mistaken.
"I'm just worried about you," she said. "Jiang Shiyu's reputation wasn't great before. If it were someone else, I would definitely believe you."
Yun Li couldn't help but smile. "The way you say it makes it sound like he committed a crime."
"I won't dwell on what he was like before; all I know is what's important now," Yu Meng replied. "It's a pity that someone as pure as you is with him."
Yu Meng clicked her tongue. "In love, there's no such thing as being worthy or unworthy. Once, I thought I wasn't good enough for him."
"He’s intelligent, kind to others, and skilled at everything he does. No matter what it is, he handles it effortlessly. Don't be fooled by his carefree demeanor; he can cook a fantastic meal just by glancing at a recipe."
There were many things others didn't know about him—like shooting, horseback riding, skydiving, fighting, and swimming—skills he had mastered long ago.
Feeling inferior stemmed from his brilliance; he was simply too dazzling. In youth, one often encounters someone who shines too brightly in their life.
Just one glance or gesture from him was unforgettable.
And he had appeared early in her life; she felt lucky to have met him back then.
