As Shu watched her friend, a smirk crept onto her face, and she squinted her eyes, letting out a playful "Oh!" Was she already looking forward to meeting a warm-hearted little brother on the journey?
"Why not an older brother?" Yun Li questioned.
Younger brothers are great! They’re easier to manage. I’m afraid an older brother might be too much to handle.
Yun Li didn’t agree; she thought younger brothers were too immature. She preferred someone more mature.
Shu covered her mouth and chuckled. "Hao Hao, how have you become so mischievous? I thought you had locked your heart away!"
Not quite locking my heart away, but I believe in serendipity. Life is long, and I want to enjoy it.
If Shu hadn’t mentioned it, she wouldn’t have thought about this issue deeply. She had been busy with rehearsals and various performances, leaving little time for such thoughts.
Besides, she wasn’t a naïve twenty-year-old girl anymore; she wasn’t that innocent. Although she hadn’t been with many men, she had seen enough of the world!
Shu’s words made her feel a bit uncomfortable. She had already begun to anticipate something new.
On January seventeenth, when Yun Li boarded the train, her excitement was palpable; she felt invigorated.
She had booked a sleeper cabin and immediately started setting up the disposable sheets and blankets once on board.
For the next forty hours, she had prepared plenty of snacks and drinks.
She intended to take the train not only to enjoy the scenery along the way but also to acclimatize to high altitude sickness so it wouldn’t be too uncomfortable.
She placed her thermos on the table, gazing out at the passing landscapes. When she grew tired of that, she would watch TV, and when she got bored of TV, she would play games.
This was something Shu had taught her—saying that gaming could help relieve stress during tough times.
However, due to her busy schedule, she rarely found time to play.
As soon as she logged in, numerous invitations flooded in from players she didn’t recognize, so she declined them all.
After playing a round by herself, she began waiting for someone to invite her to join their game because she was really quite bad at it; in her first match, she was utterly defeated and chased down by opponents while her teammates scolded her.
She didn’t understand—wasn’t I supposed to be the support? Why weren’t they protecting me?
Meanwhile, at Lan Yun Technology, Qin Nianzhe was lounging in his office. He had initially planned to play games but noticed that Yun Li was online.
Excitedly, he sent her an invitation but was taken aback when it was declined.
Would she really see me as an enemy now?
Yun Li had already entered the game, and Qin Nianzhe clicked to spectate. Halfway through, he couldn't help but laugh. She was playing Cai Wenji, constantly healing herself while her teammates searched for her, and she didn't give them any support at all.
On the opposing team, Lan noticed she didn't know how to play and chased her around the canyon, attacking relentlessly. Qin Nianzhe's laughter was loud enough for everyone to hear.
Passing by, Jiang Shiyu heard the cheerful laughter and immediately frowned. He closed the blinds tightly and pushed open his office door.
Qin Nianzhe, like an employee caught slacking off by his boss, quickly composed himself and hid his phone in the drawer. But he forgot to turn off the sound.
Jiang Shiyu looked at him with a piercing gaze while the game's background music continued to play. Qin Nianzhe awkwardly chuckled.
"Brother Yu, President Jiang, I wasn't slacking off; I was just tired from reviewing documents and took a short break."
A break in the game?
Qin Nianzhe pulled out his phone to prove his innocence. "No, I wasn't playing; I was just spectating. I’m watching Yun Li play."
Hearing her name, Jiang Shiyu lowered his eyes to look at the phone screen and took it from him. He searched for her hero and checked the stats at the top.
Tsk, she had died eighteen times—what a disaster.
The game ended with Cai Wenji's assist leading to a loss. Qin Nianzhe cautiously observed Jiang Shiyu's expression and smiled ingratiatingly. "How about we help her out?"
Jiang Shiyu didn’t look at him; he exited the gameplay screen and said, "Let me borrow your phone for a moment."
Qin Nianzhe sighed in relief and slumped back in his chair. Then Jiang Shiyu added, "Come to my office to handle some documents."
What? Why does he get to flirt with girls? I want to act out too! He stood up in protest.
Jiang Shiyu shot him a cold glance, and Qin Nianzhe immediately straightened up. "Alright, brother, I’ll be right there."
Jiang Shiyu remained standing without moving, his gaze icy. Only then did Qin Nianzhe remember that he had used the wrong wording earlier.
He slapped himself lightly, as if just scratching an itch. "I'm sorry, brother, I misspoke."
Jiang Shiyu ignored him and walked out. Qin Nianzhe obediently went to his office, where a towering pile of documents awaited him. He looked utterly miserable.
After closing the door, Jiang Shiyu sent an invitation. His fingertips nervously pressed against the edge of his phone. She accepted.
Once they entered the room, Yun Li immediately turned on her microphone. "I see you’re the strongest king. How’s your skill?"
Hearing her voice again made Jiang Shiyu's heart race. He didn’t dare to use speakerphone and typed, "It's okay." After considering Qin Nianzhe's usual tone, he deleted it and wrote instead, "Very impressive! Don’t worry, I’ll definitely carry you."
Yun Li chuckled when she saw it, her voice carrying a playful tone. Jiang Shiyu’s tense expression relaxed a bit, his brows softening.
"Why aren’t you using your mic?"
"I’m at work and can’t risk it."
"That’s a good excuse; you can sneak in some gaming. Let’s get started!"
Jiang Shiyu clicked to begin.
Yun Li asked, "I don’t know how to play. What hero do you think I should use?"
"Yao can protect you while riding on my head."
"Sounds good! But I’m not very skilled, so don’t judge me!"
"I won’t." It felt too stiff, so he added a few more words: "You can trust me! My skills will carry the whole team."
Yun Li laughed, her voice ringing like a clear bell.
Hearing that made Jiang Shiyu's heart flutter; he felt nervous for his first game. This match absolutely could not be lost.
