On August 18th, it was Yun Li's birthday. Shu Ran, Cheng Zhou, Qin Nianchu, and others had already reserved a private room at Yuan Ye to celebrate for her. Yu Meng and Peng Qingyu also came, while Qin Nianzhe and Xu were unable to make it due to their busy schedules.
Everyone enjoyed eating, drinking, singing, and dancing, having a wonderful time. During the cake-cutting segment, Jiang Shiyu pushed the cake in, surprising a few when they saw him.
Qin Nianchu leaned closer to Yun Li and whispered, "It seems like he has been pursuing you for quite a while. Have you made any progress?"
Shu Ran, as a protective friend, disagreed with the notion of any progress; she thought it was wishful thinking. Yun Li felt a bit guilty.
As everyone sang the birthday song, Yun Li closed her eyes and clasped her hands together to make a wish. She hoped that everyone would be happy and that their friendship would last forever. After making her wish, she blew out the candles.
They ate cake, drank wine, danced, and sang until everyone was exhausted. They wrapped up the celebration before midnight.
Since Yun Li had drunk some wine, she couldn’t drive. Jiang Shiyu naturally picked up Yun Li's bag and walked out with her. Shu Ran watched his back and then turned to Yun Li, feeling uneasy; she chuckled nervously, thinking he might be acting strangely.
Having had a bit too much to drink, Shu Ran kept worrying about whether Jiang Shiyu would cause trouble. As they walked, she shouted, "Hao Hao! Come on, let’s go to my place! I don’t trust this guy; he seems a bit dangerous."
Jiang Shiyu turned around and put his arm around Yun Li's shoulders, giving Shu Ran a cold look before addressing Cheng Zhou. "President Cheng, the company’s performance hasn’t been great lately; we need to put in more effort."
Shu Ran caught on to his tone and huffed in dissatisfaction. "You’re just a shareholder sitting back and collecting money; what right do you have to dictate things? I invested money—if there are losses, who’s responsible?"
Jiang Shiyu smiled without sincerity as he led Yun Li away. Cheng Zhou remained calm and reassured her: "He’s just taking out his frustrations on us because he can’t win over someone he likes. Don’t pay him any mind."
Cheng Zhou had successfully proposed to Shu Ran; both families were eager for them to marry soon. Shu Ran felt somewhat reluctant about it all while Cheng Zhou was quick to act, pulling her to get their marriage certificate and choosing an auspicious date for the wedding.
Hearing him say that made Shu Ran feel relieved; he was just jealous of them. Wait a minute—didn’t he just walk off with Hao Hao?
You misunderstood. He was indeed holding Hao Hao, and I have to follow them. Cheng Zhou knew it; he had Shu Ran tightly restrained. You really saw it wrong; that was Yun Li hugging herself.
They exited the community and entered the elevator. As the doors closed, Jiang Shiyu pulled her into his arms. A passionate kiss ensued, and Yun Li pushed him away, reminding him of the cameras.
At this late hour, no one would be watching. It had been a week since they last saw each other. "Did you miss me?" he asked.
A week ago, Yun Li had gone to the film set for a historical drama that required professional dancers. She was invited to shoot and ended up staying for a whole week. As soon as she got off the plane, she rushed to Yuan Ye.
She thought about it, but Yun Li didn’t want to admit it. The elevator doors opened, and they kissed their way out. Out of the corner of her eye, Yun Li noticed that her front door was ajar.
Startled, she quickly pushed Jiang Shiyu away from her neck. Someone was inside.
Jiang Shiyu stumbled back a step, confused by her sudden movement, just as Yun Li's mother walked out from inside.
The expressions on their faces were tense; something was clearly off. Deng Ting, being experienced, immediately sensed something was wrong.
Deng Ting opened her mouth as if to shout but stopped abruptly, creating an awkward atmosphere among the three of them.
Yun Li spoke in a flustered and anxious tone, "Mom, what are you doing here?"
"We just happened to run into each other," she added hastily.
It felt like there was no hiding the truth here. Eventually, they stood in the living room facing the two elders sitting on the sofa.
Deng Ting and Yun Zheng wore blank expressions, making it impossible to tell what they were thinking. Yun Li felt like a child caught in a crush, lowering her head as she awaited her father's response.
"Auntie, Uncle, we've actually been together for a while now. We didn't tell you earlier because we wanted to wait until our relationship was more stable," Jiang Shiyu said, breaking the silence.
Yun Li looked at him in shock, his eyes signaling him to stop talking.
Yun Zheng asked calmly, "How long have you been together?"
"About half a year," Jiang Shiyu replied.
