As soon as the beetles landed, they emitted a screech that sent shivers down the spine, rushing towards Lu Ziye and his squad. The attack was sudden; Wan Hao, standing at the front, swung his massive shield and sent several of them flying, while Zhan Dao unsheathed his weapon and struck down fiercely at one of the creatures.
Though the Mechanical Beetles were classified as Level Mechanical Beasts, they were among the weakest. They relied on sheer numbers to overwhelm their foes, using their sharp mandibles to gnaw at the armor of mechs. Their attack style resembled that of zombies, surging forward in a wave initiated by the Elite Mechanical Mother Bug lurking underground, gradually devouring the mechs bit by bit.
Lu Ziye quickly positioned himself in front of Cai Ji, wielding his Blood Cry Military Blade like a flickering flame. At the same time, he activated the Violent Cannon on his right arm to cover her retreat. The Roarer Mech, despite its powerful long-range firepower and high accuracy, lacked close combat capabilities and had fragile armor; engaging in melee was the last thing it wanted.
"Cover your retreat, Cai Ji. Once you're safe, you can execute precise strikes," Lu Ziye instructed.
"I'm outta here! These bugs are disgusting, biting my mech's rear!" Cai Ji replied as she made her escape.
Lu Ziye glanced back and indeed saw two Mechanical Beetles frantically gnawing at the back of Cai Ji's mech. With a swift motion of his Blood Cry Sabre, he dispatched them effortlessly. These Mechanical Beetles could be taken down with just a single strike; their strength was truly lacking. If he had used artillery instead, it would have been even easier.
Excitingly, these little beetles could also stack attack speed for him—what a delightful surprise! Lu Ziye thought to himself: I love beetles!
The Mechanical Beetles lacked any ranged attack capabilities; they relied solely on their sharp teeth and remarkable speed. They charged forward rapidly, forcing Wan Hao to retreat repeatedly and endure quite a bit of hardship. However, this tough guy remained resolute against their bites.
Under Lu Ziye's cover, Cai Ji managed to retreat safely for several kilometers before utilizing long-range attacks to join forces with him in exterminating the beetles. As for that Elite Mechanical Mother Bug? Let it continue producing; the more, the merrier.
Gunfire erupted as the Blood Cry Sabre danced wildly in Lu Ziye's hands. In front of him lay a small mountain of Mechanical Beetle corpses. After about ten minutes, he had eliminated countless beetles.
His attack speed was stacking up rapidly; combined with the previous kills of multiple Mechanical Beasts, Lu Ziye's current attack speed had reached an extraordinary level—an incredible boost!
With a flick of his Miao Dao, the crimson blade sliced through the air, creating continuous arcs that left Wan Hao and Cai Ji in awe.
"Wow! Brother Lu, your little blade is really something else!" Wan Hao exclaimed.
"Did you just take down that Mechanical Beetle in seconds? Can you believe it?" Cai Ji added incredulously.
Wan Hao exclaimed, "It's over! That Elite Mechanical Mother Bug can't keep up with the speed. Hurry up and spawn already!"
On the battlefield, large swathes of Mechanical Beetles were being eliminated. The squad was astonished to find that the Mechanical Mother Bug was still in the process of spawning, unable to keep pace with the demand.
The Mechanical Mother Bug remarked, "Though I am not human, you three are quite the abnormal ones."
As the squad continued to wait and fight, after an hour, the massive body of the Elite Mechanical Mother Bug finally deflated completely. It truly could not produce any more.
The Mechanical Mother Bug had no other means of attack; it was a very unique type of Mechanical Beast that relied on its reproductive capabilities to survive underground, causing considerable trouble for lower-tier Mechanics.
But now, it was utterly bewildered. Once all the Mechanical Beetles were defeated, Wan Hao piloted his mech to the rear of the Elite Mechanical Mother Bug and glanced at its exhausted form.
"Brother Lu," Wan Hao said, "it seems it really can't spawn anymore."
"Let's finish it off! After all, it's an Elite Mechanical Beast; it might drop something good," Cai Ji urged.
The ideal was rich, but reality was stark. Aside from the energy points gained from this encounter, they also received an attack speed bonus and a Soul Crystal. No components dropped; killing an Elite Mechanical Beast only had a chance of yielding components.
Defeating just one Mechanical Beetle allowed Lu Ziye to level up. This round of gains was quite substantial. If they hadn't encountered this Mechanical Mother Bug, searching for a Mechanical Beast in the wild would have taken them most of the day.
However, they managed to achieve such rich results in just two hours. Glancing at his Attribute Panel, Lu Ziye could only exclaim in awe.
