Lu Ziye was a man of few words, and he unleashed a flurry of strikes against the Mechanical Beast with relentless fury. Suddenly, a strange sound echoed from behind him, prompting Lu Ziye to turn around cautiously.
From the small Star Gate emerged a series of mournful growls, reminiscent of whispers from an Ancient Demon.
"Did I anger you?" Lu Ziye raised his hand and unleashed hundreds of blades toward the Ancient mech. The sounds grew more furious, yet nothing terrifying emerged from the Star Gate.
In an instant, Lu Ziye understood: it was merely impotent rage! He had to act quickly to finish it off; every second meant another Soul Crystal consumed, which was truly painful to bear.
He had to admit, this Ancient-Class Mechanical Beast had formidable defenses. It took him a full minute to completely destroy it, giving Lu Ziye a clearer understanding of the power of Ancient-Class Mechanical Beasts: their combat strength surpassed his own.
Why did he think so? Because this Ancient-Class Mechanical Beast had not yet revived and lacked an Energy Core; it had withstood so many of his attacks solely based on its material composition. If it were alive and supported by an Energy Core, he would undoubtedly be no match for it.
Ancient-level beings were far more terrifying than those at the Lord level.
Realizing this, Lu Ziye knew he needed to exchange information with Xiao Ming soon to see if there were any corroborating details from him. To his surprise, after defeating the Ancient-Class Mechanical Beast, Lu Ziye obtained a Wan Soul Crystal—far exceeding his expectations.
"Wow, what a profit!" he exclaimed. He had only been there for a few minutes and consumed just one Wan Soul Crystal, yet he earned ten thousand in return! If such ruins were discovered again in the future, he would definitely make more visits.
After leaving the ruins, Lu Ziye hurried to the command center of the Dragon Kingdom in the Purple Zone, where Xiao Ming had already been waiting for him. The level of Purple Zone Mechanical Beasts was concentrated at a certain tier, which was Lu Ziye's next target for conquest.
The Purple Zone still had hundreds of Star Gates standing tall, restricting human movement and requiring Lu Ziye to lead efforts to clear them one by one.
"What? Are you saying that the Mechanical Beasts are keeping humans as Mechanics? Their ultimate goal is to revive those Ancient-level beings?" Upon hearing Lu Ziye's report, Xiao Ming was taken aback and stood up abruptly.
No one knew better than Xiao Ming how long he had fought in this otherworldly battle and how much he had sacrificed. He seemed to lose his soul momentarily as he sat down again; he could not accept that all his efforts were merely supporting the Mechanical Beasts in putting on a show.
His once-proud combat prowess was nothing but a gift from the Mechanical Beasts. For a warrior, this fundamentally shattered his fighting spirit and left him feeling lost.
"Are you okay, Legion Commander Liu Tianwei?" Lu Ziye asked, concerned about his companion's condition.
"I'm fine, I'm fine!" Xiao Ming replied, waving his hands repeatedly.
"Legion Commander Liu Tianwei, I've heard an interesting tale. It speaks of someone who thought they had the upper hand, believing victory was assured, only to end up in utter defeat. This situation with the Mechanical Beasts is quite similar! When we find ourselves in darkness, perhaps it is because there is light behind us. Besides, what's the worst that could happen? Death? What more do we have to lose?"
"Hahaha! Well said! If this truly is a setup by the Mechanical Beasts, they once left us a way out and even granted us access to the technology of the Mecha Era. If we were to turn the tables on them, that would be the most ironic twist of fate." Xiao Ming felt inspired by Lu Ziye's words, realizing that perhaps there was nothing to fear. He didn't even know how many times he had hovered on the brink of death before coming to this understanding.
"We will fight our way through and completely shatter the cage set by the Mechanical Beasts. If it takes a day, then it will take a year. When the Human Mechanical Legion reaches the Black Zone Abyss, they will regret their decision!" Lu Ziye declared confidently.
"Xiao Lu, there’s something you might be mistaken about. Do you think those Ancient Mechanical Beasts have all gone to the Black Zone?" Xiao Ming said seriously.
"Isn't that so?" Lu Ziye was taken aback; he had assumed that after their revival, those Ancient-Class Mechanical Beasts would head straight for the Black Zone through small Star Gates. He even thought that the strange whispers from earlier were from Ancient-Class Mechanical Beasts beneath the Black Zone Abyss.
Xiao Ming shook his head. "There are no Ancient-Class Mechanical Beasts down in the Black Zone Abyss. Each time we deal with an abyssal riot, we are only facing some lord-level Elite Level Mechanical Beasts—though they are quite powerful, they are still below that rank."
"Then where have they gone?" Lu Ziye asked in surprise.
"I don’t know for sure, but they’re no longer a concern. When you become strong enough, they will reveal themselves. Your current task is to rapidly increase your strength in the Purple Zone and destroy those Lan Xing forces. We need to liberate the Purple Zone just like we did with the Blue Zone."
"I understand!" Legion Commander Liu Tianwei said. "There’s one more thing I want to know: why can Ancient Mechanical Beasts use System Soul Crystals to enhance their energy levels and revive themselves? Why can't Human Mechs do the same?"
"Not only that," Xiao Ming continued, "but Human Mechs also cannot traverse Star Gates. I believe both issues point in the same direction; it's highly likely that we can uncover this secret beneath the abyss. Xiao Lu, perhaps one day you will become the first human Mechanic to step through a Star Gate. I believe in you!"
"No," Commander interjected. "I believe that one day it won't just be me; millions of human Mechanics will pilot our strongest Lan Xing mechs into the Star Gate and drive out the Mechanical Beasts entirely!"
"Hahaha! I can't wait for that day!" Xiao Ming laughed heartily.
After finishing his conversation with Xiao Ming, Lu Ziye prepared himself once more. He felt incredibly powerful now and would rapidly advance beyond level in the Purple Zone before moving on to the Red Zone.
This was Lu Ziye's plan, but in reality, plans often fall short of change. He had no idea what tomorrow would bring; all he could do was focus on becoming stronger quickly.
Looking at the vast expanse of Mechanical Beasts at the frontlines of the Purple Zone, Lu Ziye swung his Zhan Dao once again as high-energy Laser Cannons wreaked havoc around him.
"Kill!!!"
These past few days have been cold and I've fallen ill—what a nightmare! Wishing all readers a Happy New Year and good health; that's what matters most!
