The so-called Buffer Zone was a low-level area carved out from the Desolate Land during the battles of the Mechanical Beasts, utilizing Star Gate technology. It was originally part of the Desolate Land. This was the only achievement of the Mechanical Beasts in the Desolate Land, and it remained their sole fantasy, hoping to find a miracle for a comeback through these Buffer Zones.
As Lu Ziye stepped through a Star Gate into this vast Buffer Zone, he was struck by two words: desolation and bleakness. The ground was littered with Metal Wreckage from the Mechanical Beasts, along with patches of black solidified material that resembled dried asphalt. Once liquid, it had now hardened into a resilient solid, still glimmering with a metallic sheen.
"What are these things?" Lu Ziye asked the nearby Mechanical Pioneer.
"They are the Evolutionary Bodies we killed," came the reply. "They are all made of Liquid Metal, naturally possessing strong damage mitigation against any form of attack. This makes them incredibly difficult to kill. For Evolutionary Bodies of similar levels, our exchange ratio in battle is terrifyingly low; it takes a group of Mechanical Beasts working together to take down just one Evolutionary Body, and that’s under favorable conditions. If both sides are evenly matched, it would be a crushing defeat for us."
Lu Ziye felt a jolt of surprise—not at the strength of the Evolutionary Bodies but at the thought: Is that it? Just tougher to kill? A few more energy blasts? And you’ve been suppressed for over ten thousand years? That’s just pathetic.
Noticing Lu Ziye's astonishment, the Mechanical Pioneer tried to reassure him. "Don’t be afraid. I can see your strength is formidable and that you’re progressing quickly. I believe that together we can achieve final victory."
"No, no, no, you’re thinking too much. I think I can handle this myself," Lu Ziye thought to himself while outwardly expressing confidence in their unity against difficulties. "So, can I get a look at an Evolutionary Body? Where’s the nearest battlefield?"
"This way," said the Mechanical Pioneer earnestly. "Crossing this Star Gate leads to a gathering place for high-level Evolutionary Bodies—it's extremely dangerous, but you can give it a try. I can have the Mechanical Beasts assist you in your attack."
"That's not necessary; I’ll go in alone. You all should head back," Lu Ziye told his Elite members from the Dragon Rising Legion. There was no point in bringing them along; he was confident he could manage on his own, and even if he couldn’t, they wouldn’t be much help.
Upon entering the new Buffer Zone, Lu Ziye had barely landed when dozens of high-level Evolutionary Bodies charged toward him. These Evolutionary Bodies varied greatly in shape and could even alter their forms at will; many mimicked the appearance of Mechanical Beasts.
Their surfaces were dark and shiny, radiating a metallic luster. The Mechanical Beast beside Lu Ziye had already opened fire, unleashing various Energy Shells upon these Evolutionary Bodies. Then something bizarre occurred: as the Energy Shells approached, these Evolutionary Bodies automatically dented inward and even created openings to let the shells pass through their bodies, minimizing damage taken.
Impressive! But I wonder if you can withstand my rapid-fire attacks.
Lu Ziye raised his right arm and unleashed a torrent from his Super Energy Pulse Cannon—one shot per second, combined with an increased firing rate for rapid succession.
Before him, dozens of Evolutionary Bodies were immediately shredded apart, disintegrating into pools of black liquid metal that flowed onto the ground and solidified within moments—just like what Lu Ziye had seen upon entering this area.
The Mechanical Pioneer looked on in shock but feigned calmness as he remarked, "Not bad at all."
"Just okay! Unity is strength; let’s keep going!" Lu Ziye disregarded the nearby Mechanical Beasts and focused solely on his frenzied slaughter. After all, each of these high-level Evolutionary Bodies could yield an increase in his attack speed—such resources should have been mentioned earlier!
Lu Ziye was so excited that he lost himself in the moment, watching the Evolutionary Bodies rushing toward him, and he suddenly found them quite adorable.
With a rapid attack speed, Lu Ziye unleashed his strikes like a whirlwind. Moreover, the experience gained from defeating these Evolutionary Bodies was substantial. He felt that this Buffer Zone simply wasn't enough for him to fully showcase his abilities. The Desolate Land mentioned by the Mechanical Pioneer was a true treasure trove for him, and he was determined to find a way to enter it as soon as possible.
He possessed the ability to construct a Star Gate, so as long as he grew strong enough, it wouldn't matter whether there were Mechanical Pioneers around or not.
"Be careful, there's a group of high-level Evolutionary Bodies targeting you over there," the Mechanical Pioneer warned, swinging his hand to unleash a barrage of energy blasts that sent a dozen high-level Evolutionary Bodies flying.
"Don't worry, I'll take care of them!" Lu Ziye replied confidently, swinging his Blood Cry Sabre in a wide arc. The Evolutionary Bodies were instantly sliced apart, falling from the sky like pieces of meat before dissolving into pools of black liquid.
