The situation in Shanghai grew increasingly tense, like the oppressive heat before a storm, suffocating and stifling. The Japanese Officers faced setbacks on various battlefields, and in an attempt to reverse the tide, they intensified their suppression efforts in Shanghai, aiming to eradicate the Underground Party, which they viewed as a thorn in their side. They spared no expense in importing advanced radio reconnaissance equipment from Germany, devices that acted like keen Hounds, capable of detecting even the faintest radio signals, bringing unprecedented danger to the Underground Party Organization in Shanghai.
Lin Feng, who was part of the Wang Wei Secret Service Agency, regarded this new equipment as a treasure. The intensity of their searches increased exponentially. Agents worked in shifts day and night, scouring the streets and alleys of Shanghai in a thorough search, leaving no suspicious corner unchecked. Upon discovering any area with abnormal signals, they would immediately mobilize heavy troops for a brutal crackdown.

During an emergency operation by the Wang Wei Intelligence Agency, Lin Feng set out with the team. They brought along the new reconnaissance equipment to a district suspected of radio activity. When the equipment powered on, the sharp signal alert sounded particularly jarring in the quiet night. Lin Feng's heart tightened; he knew he had to find a way to disrupt this search quickly, or the consequences would be dire.
He approached the equipment nonchalantly, pretending to assist with its operation while his eyes swiftly scanned the various gauges and interfaces. With his professional knowledge, he noticed that one crucial signal amplifier was showing signs of slight overheating due to prolonged use. An idea sparked in Lin Feng's mind—a bold plan began to form.
Taking advantage of the Agents' distraction, he quietly pulled out a small electromagnetic jammer he had prepared in advance from his pocket. This device was cobbled together from some old parts during his spare time; though rudimentary, it could prove invaluable at a critical moment. He positioned the jammer near the equipment's cooling vent, and instantly, the device's indicator lights began flashing wildly while emitting a cacophony of chaotic beeping sounds, resembling an out-of-control beast.
What’s happening? The equipment has malfunctioned! The Agents were thrown into disarray, exchanging bewildered glances as they tried to comprehend what was going wrong. Lin Feng immediately stepped forward, feigning urgency and professionalism as he said: "Everyone stay calm! This equipment has been running too long; it might have overheated and caused a malfunction. It won’t be completely damaged!" The Agents had no choice but to heed his advice and began frantically preparing repair tools.
While pretending to help, Lin Feng kept an eye on his surroundings. He knew time was running out; he needed to use this brief repair window to relay information. He discreetly took out a tiny note hidden in his sleeve that contained vital intelligence about recent troop movements and supply transports by the Japanese Officers—information he had gathered at great personal risk.
Seizing the moment when all Agents were focused on repairing the equipment and their attention was diverted, he pretended to look for spare parts in a nearby room but instead quickly dashed to a concealed phone booth around the corner. He swiftly dialed the Underground Party's secret contact number and spoke in a hurried yet hushed tone: "Sparrow calling, Sparrow calling! This is Lin Feng; I have urgent intelligence to relay." The operator on the other end quickly recorded the information and confirmed its accuracy before Lin Feng hung up with a sigh of relief.
However, danger was far from over. On his way back to the repair site, an observant Agent noticed Lin Feng’s slightly flustered demeanor and that he had been gone for too long, raising suspicions. "Lin Feng, where have you been? Why did it take you so long?" The Agent blocked his path with suspicion evident in his eyes.
Lin Feng felt a chill run down his spine but maintained an outward calmness. He spread his hands to show several components he held and explained: "I went into that room to find spare parts! This old equipment is difficult to work with; I had quite a struggle just finding these few usable ones! If we hadn’t done this repair now, who knows how much longer it would take!" He forced a light-hearted laugh.
The Agent scrutinized him for a moment before glancing at the components in his hands. Though still doubtful, he could not find any immediate flaws and reluctantly let him pass. Lin Feng returned to the repair site and continued assisting the Agents with fixing the equipment. After much effort, they finally restored normal function; however, this malfunction had delayed their search operation significantly, resulting in them finding nothing.
The Japanese Officers and Wang Wei Secret Service Agency were furious about this failure and intensified their scrutiny of Agent personnel. Lin Feng faced immense pressure once again. Yet he was undeterred by difficulties; instead, he became more cautious and continued seeking new opportunities to outmaneuver his enemies. He cleverly diverted their attention by exploiting internal conflicts within the Wang Wei Intelligence Agency, temporarily clearing himself of suspicion while continuing to study radio technology in preparation for potential new reconnaissance methods from the Japanese Officers.
In this dire situation, Lin Feng relied on his wisdom and courage time after time to navigate through perilous circumstances while transmitting valuable intelligence for the Underground Party Organization—like a beacon shining defiantly in darkness—illuminating the path toward victory in the Anti-Japanese War. He knew that each adventure brought him one step closer to ultimate victory, and he would resolutely press on until dawn illuminated the earth.
