Not long after, Chief of Espionage Zhao Chongwu sent someone to invite him for tea in his office. Lin Feng organized his thoughts and calmly made his way there. In the office, Zhao Chongwu sat behind his desk, his expression dark and foreboding. A stack of documents lay in front of him. Upon seeing Lin Feng enter, he wasted no time on pleasantries and got straight to the point. 0

"Lin Consultant," he said, "after investigating these past few days, I increasingly feel that something is amiss. The clues you provided seem reasonable at first glance, yet we have found nothing. Instead, they have caused us to waste considerable time on this Inside Man case. Don’t you think you owe me a reasonable explanation?" 0

Lin Feng had been mentally prepared for this confrontation. He smiled slightly and replied, "Chief, I understand your concerns. However, investigating a case is like searching for a needle in a haystack; it’s not something that can be resolved easily. The clues I provided were based on the circumstances at the time and my judgment. As for why there are no leads, it’s likely because the Inside Man is too cunning and deliberately left false clues to mislead us. You also know that I have been working tirelessly with everyone day and night on this investigation. If I had any issues, would I go through such lengths?" 0

Zhao Chongwu snorted coldly. "Hmph, let’s hope that’s true. However, to ensure the integrity of the investigation, from now on, you need to temporarily set aside your work and cooperate with us for further inquiries." As he spoke, he waved his hand, and several fully armed agents entered from outside, standing on either side of Lin Feng, clearly intending to place him under house arrest. 0

Lin Feng felt a surge of alarm but maintained his composure on the surface. He frowned slightly and feigned dissatisfaction as he said, "Chief, are you saying you don’t trust me? My loyalty to the party and country is as clear as day; isn’t this action just disheartening for my brothers?" Zhao Chongwu remained unmoved and replied coldly, "Lin Consultant, this is a special measure during a critical period. Once the truth comes to light, your innocence will be restored." 0

With no other option, Lin Feng resigned himself to being taken by the agents to a secluded room that was ostensibly for rest but was effectively a form of house arrest. The room contained only a bed, a table, and a chair; the windows were tightly shut, and guards were stationed outside the door, making escape nearly impossible. Yet Lin Feng did not give up; he sat on the edge of the bed and began to think of a strategy. 0

He knew that he needed to contact his organization as soon as possible to inform them of his precarious situation while also finding a way to break the deadlock and escape from this predicament. After some contemplation, he devised a risky plan to use one of the agents guarding him to relay information. 0

Lin Feng deliberately created some noise in the room to attract the guard's attention. The agent impatiently opened the door and shouted, "What’s all this noise? Be quiet!" Lin Feng pretended to look aggrieved and said, "Brother, I feel wronged! I’m doing my utmost for our party and country yet am being treated like an Inside Man under house arrest—don’t you think that’s unfair?" 0

The agent rolled his eyes at him. "Cut the crap; I’m not in charge here. If you feel wronged, talk to the Chief." 0

Seeing that the agent was unyielding, Lin Feng changed his demeanor to one of mystery and whispered conspiratorially, "Brother, actually I know some important leads about the Inside Man but can’t tell the Chief since I'm locked up here. If this delays the investigation because of me, wouldn’t that make me even more wronged? If you could do me a small favor and pass this message to the Chief, it might lead to something significant." 0

The agent hesitated but was intrigued: "Is what you’re saying true? What leads?" 0

Lin Feng leaned closer to him and lowered his voice further: "I suspect that one of those responsible for transporting supplies is actually the Inside Man. I once saw one of them meeting with a stranger; their behavior was highly suspicious. You need to tell the Chief so he can focus on investigating these individuals—if we catch the Inside Man, you could become a hero." The agent thought it over for a moment before finally nodding: "Alright then; I’ll mention it to the Chief. But if you’re lying to me…" 0

After the agent left, Lin Feng breathed a sigh of relief. He knew that while this risky move might not completely extricate him from danger, it would at least buy him some time and opportunity. Meanwhile, he used items in the room to create a simple signaling device in preparation for sending out an SOS signal at an opportune moment. 0

As he waited anxiously for news from his organization, Lin Feng remained vigilant and ready for any unexpected developments. He understood that this life-and-death struggle with the American Side had reached its most critical juncture; every step mattered immensely. Yet he felt no fear; armed with unwavering conviction and exceptional intelligence, he continued to fight against despair while awaiting dawn's arrival. 0

After conveying Lin Feng's words to Zhao Chongwu, they piqued his interest. Zhao Chongwu pondered for a moment before concluding that Lin Feng's clues were not without merit; after all, those responsible for transporting supplies had significant opportunities for wrongdoing. He immediately mobilized personnel for an in-depth investigation into these individuals. 0

Meanwhile, Lin Feng anxiously awaited feedback from his organization in his room. Using his makeshift signaling device according to predetermined times and frequencies, he sent out an SOS signal. Fortunately, his organization received it promptly and learned about his current predicament through secret channels. The Underground Party quickly formulated a rescue plan in preparation for their timely intervention. 0

As investigations into supply transport personnel deepened within American Side ranks, several suspicious points emerged. One transporter named Liu Qiang exhibited unusual economic behavior recently—frequenting high-end establishments with expenditures far exceeding his normal income levels. Additionally, reports surfaced alleging that during transport duties he had left the vehicle alone several times; though brief each time, it raised suspicions. 0

Upon learning these details, Zhao Chongwu ordered Liu Qiang's immediate arrest for interrogation. In the interrogation room faced with overwhelming evidence against him, Liu Qiang turned pale with fear as his legs trembled beneath him. Initially attempting to deny everything under duress proved futile; ultimately he confessed that he had been bribed by Rijun to provide information regarding supply transport routes and timings but insisted he had no knowledge of detailed intelligence related to U.S Aid supplies nor had he leaked any critical information. 0

This revelation left American Side officials somewhat disappointed—they had captured a traitor but failed to identify the true Inside Man. Nevertheless, Zhao Chongwu did not ease up on monitoring Lin Feng; he believed Lin Feng still held suspicions against him but lacked solid evidence at present. 0

Upon hearing news of Liu Qiang's arrest, Lin Feng secretly felt relieved. While he hadn’t fully cleared himself of suspicion yet at least there seemed to be some shift in circumstances favoring him. Taking advantage of shift changes among guards outside his room once again allowed him contact with his organization where he updated them on recent developments while discussing next steps. 0

The organization decided that amidst internal chaos within American Side—temporarily distracted by Liu Qiang—they would send Contact Personnel close by American Side's base readying themselves for assistance should Lin Feng require extraction soonest possible while simultaneously creating diversions elsewhere through staged activities across Shanghai Urban Area designed specifically aimed at misleading Military Intelligence Agents who would find themselves stretched thin chasing false leads. 0

Inside his confinement Lin Feng remained alert picking up snippets from conversations among guards revealing ongoing investigations into Liu Qiang which provided some comfort knowing things were stabilizing somewhat despite still being under scrutiny himself—he continued feigning cooperation with investigations keeping guards complacent while eagerly awaiting further instructions from those working behind-the-scenes. 0

Despite capturing Liu Qiang American Side did not cease their covert surveillance over Lin Feng—agents worked around-the-clock maintaining tight watch around his quarters hoping any slip-up would reveal incriminating evidence against him yet every action taken by Lin Feng appeared meticulously calculated maintaining regular routines aside from occasional pacing deep in thought showing no signs indicating anything amiss whatsoever. 0

One dark night when conditions were ideal for action—Contact Personnel positioned nearby signaled readiness using prearranged codes prompting Lin Feng who pretended needing fresh air approached window using dim light confirming receipt before quietly initiating escape plan by shifting furniture creating noise drawing attention from guards outside who rushed in upon hearing commotion just as Lin Feng struck swiftly incapacitating them before donning their uniforms lowering hat brim blending into shadows making way towards freedom beyond confines of captivity. 0

Along the way, Lin Feng skillfully avoided the Patrol Team, relying on his familiarity with the layout of the American Side's stronghold. Just as he was about to reach the outer perimeter, an unexpected incident occurred. A sharp-eyed Agent noticed something unusual about his figure and shouted, "Stop! Who goes there?" Lin Feng's heart raced, but he remained calm. Mimicking the guard's accent, he replied in a rough voice, "It's me, just changed shifts. My stomach hurts badly; I'm rushing to the restroom." He clutched his stomach and pretended to be in pain. The Agent was skeptical and was about to approach for a closer inspection when suddenly, an explosion erupted from another part of the stronghold, flames shooting into the sky. It was the Contact Personnel creating chaos to divert the Agents' attention. Seizing the opportunity, Lin Feng sprinted away and broke through the defensive line amidst the confusion, meeting up with the Contact Personnel. 0

After shaking off the pursuit from the American Side, Lin Feng did not immediately let his guard down. He knew that once the American Side realized he had escaped, they would be furious and launch a citywide manhunt. Therefore, under the organization’s arrangements, he quickly moved to a concealed safe house to rest temporarily. During this time, he reported in detail to the organization all the intelligence he had gathered from within the American Side, especially regarding the movements of remaining supplies from U.S. Aid to China and subsequent contact plans between the American Side and Rijun and their allies. 0

With the crucial intelligence brought back by Lin Feng, the American Side immediately adjusted its strategic deployment. On one hand, they dispatched elite forces to secretly track supply transport convoys in hopes of intercepting urgently needed medicines and equipment; on the other hand, they prepared defenses against potential Joint Operations by preemptively fortifying their positions to counter various threats. Simultaneously, to prevent a chain reaction from Lin Feng’s identity being completely exposed, the Underground Party’s Intelligence Network in Shanghai quickly went into silent mode, retaining only a few core and discreet lines of communication while other personnel lay low and waited for things to settle down. 0

Meanwhile, on the American Side, Zhao Chongwu was furious over Lin Feng's escape and severely punished the responsible Agents while increasing control over Shanghai Urban Area. The Agents prowled through streets and alleys like wolves, searching every household without overlooking any suspicious corner. However, they found nothing; Lin Feng seemed to have evaporated into thin air. 0

After a brief stay at the safe house for several days, Lin Feng took the initiative to request permission from his organization to leverage his understanding of internal conflicts within both the American Side and Wang Wei to infiltrate once more into enemy territory. His goal was to stir up chaos from within and gain more strategic advantages for the American Side. After careful consideration, the organization agreed to his request. Lin Feng disguised himself as a mysterious businessman who operated in both legal and illegal circles and re-emerged in Shanghai’s tumultuous scene using his previously accumulated connections and resources. 0

He first intentionally revealed to high-ranking officials of Wang Wei that the American Side was currently in disarray due to leaked supply intelligence, suggesting that Wang Wei could take advantage of this opportunity to expand its influence and weaken the American Side's authority in Shanghai. Hearing this, Wang Wei's officials were secretly pleased and began plotting a series of small-scale actions against the American Side, such as seizing intelligence strongholds and intercepting supply transport routes. This forced the American Side to expend energy dealing with Wang Wei's provocations while becoming increasingly overwhelmed internally. 0

Next, Lin Feng approached personnel on the periphery of the American Side under his guise as a businessman and casually leaked rumors about Wang Wei planning an attack on them, further exacerbating mutual suspicion and conflict between both sides. During a Joint Operation meeting already fraught with tension between the American Side and Wang Wei due to Lin Feng’s deliberately planted seeds of discord, a fierce confrontation erupted as both sides accused each other of harboring ulterior motives, leading to a complete breakdown in cooperation. 0

Amidst this chaos, Lin Feng thrived like a fish in water, weaving through various factions while continuously gathering intelligence and relaying it back to his organization. With his wisdom and courage, he repeatedly broke through desperate situations, manipulating both the American Side and Wang Wei at will. He accumulated valuable strength for an eventual victory for the American Side until finally emerging from darkness into light as dawn broke over their triumph in the Anti-Japanese War. 0
