Crashing into the Summer Night Sky 8: Unexpected Focus of the Basketball Game

The annual autumn basketball tournament at school had begun, and the entire campus was immersed in an atmosphere of excitement and restlessness. As a key player on the team, Lu Xingyan was naturally the center of attention. 0

The match between Class 1 and Class 3 was scheduled for Friday afternoon. Before the game, the girls from Class 3 spontaneously organized a cheerleading squad. I couldn’t refuse them, so I went along. The basketball court was already packed with people, most of their eyes following the figure in the number 10 jersey—Lu Xingyan. 0

The game was exceptionally intense, with the score tightly contested. Class 1 had a strong lineup, but our class fought back fiercely. Lu Xingyan's performance was nothing short of spectacular; he dribbled, stole the ball, and made three-point shots with ease. Every basket he scored ignited cheers and applause from the crowd. 0

Sitting among the cheerleaders, I watched him sweat it out on the court, my heart involuntarily racing with tension. During halftime, the players came off the court to drink water and rest. As soon as Lu Xingyan reached the sidelines, Sun Rui rushed over with a bottle of water, her smile radiant. “Xingyan!” 0

Lu Xingyan took the water and said "thank you," but his expression remained indifferent as he didn’t spare her a glance. Sun Rui seemed a bit reluctant to let it go; she wanted to say something more but was pulled away by Lu Xingyan's teammates. 0

Watching this scene made me feel… uncomfortable. It was hard to describe—sour and bitter all at once. 0

The second half of the game became even more heated. In a fierce scramble for the ball, Lu Xingyan fell hard to the ground while trying to save a ball that was about to go out of bounds. 0

“Ah!” A gasp arose from the sidelines. 0

My heart tightened suddenly, and I instinctively stood up, anxiously watching him. He quickly got back on his feet, brushed off the dust from his clothes, and shook his head at his concerned teammates to signal that he was fine. But perhaps it was just my imagination; I felt like his gait seemed… unnatural? 0

The game continued, and Lu Xingyan remained a dominant force on the court, but his speed and jumping ability appeared to be affected. 0

When the final whistle blew, Class 1 narrowly won the match. The players exchanged high-fives in celebration while fans cheered wildly from the sidelines. After a brief exchange with his teammates, Lu Xingyan walked alone toward the locker room, his back looking somewhat lonely. 0

I hesitated for a moment but decided to follow him anyway. I wasn’t sure why I felt compelled to do so. 0

Reaching a secluded corner behind the gymnasium, I saw him leaning against the wall with a slight frown, pressing his right hand against his ankle. 0

“Lu Xingyan, are you okay?” I approached him quietly and asked. 0

He looked up at me in surprise. 0

“I saw you fall earlier… did you hurt your ankle?” I glanced at where he was pressing. 0

He lowered his hand and moved his ankle around; there wasn’t much expression on his face. “I’m fine, just a minor injury.” 0

“It’s already swollen and you’re saying you’re fine!” I noticed the obvious redness and swelling around his ankle and couldn’t help but raise my voice. The infirmary in the gym was probably empty at this hour. 0

I hurriedly rummaged through my backpack, hoping to find something useful. Fortunately, I had bought a small tube of liniment the last time I purchased Band-Aids, originally intended for the occasional wrist strain when I painted. 0

"I have some liniment here. Do you... want to apply a little?" I raised the small tube of ointment, asking a bit uncertainly. 0

He looked at the ointment in my hand, fell silent for a few seconds, and then slowly sat down on the steps beside us, slightly rolling up the cuff of his sweatpants to reveal his injured ankle. 0

Does this mean... he agreed? 0
