"Listen," I said, "they are researching how to transform the human body to give blood certain special properties."
"But why use children?"
"Because children's blood is the purest and easiest to modify." A voice suddenly rang out.
We jumped in surprise and turned to see Makiko standing at the door, having appeared out of nowhere.
"This is where it all begins," she said, "and it is the greatest sin of our family."
"You mean..."
"The Yamamoto Family has been continuing this plan for generations. They believe that by modifying blood, people can gain unimaginable power. For this goal, they are willing to sacrifice anyone, including their own kin."
She walked to a chamber and gently touched the glass. "These are all failed experiments. Their blood was successfully modified, but their bodies couldn't withstand that kind of power. So they can only be preserved this way, waiting for further research."
"The Lunar Eclipse Project," I murmured.
"It is their ultimate goal." She pulled a disk from her pocket. "This contains all the evidence. Professor Yamamoto plans to activate all the masks at his locations on the day of the lunar eclipse. He believes that the special energy from the eclipse will ensure the experiment's success."
Suddenly, alarms blared.
"They're coming," Makiko said urgently. "Follow me; I know an escape route."
Before she could finish her sentence, a gunshot pierced the air.
