"Reverse Death?" I repeated the words left by my parent, pondering their meaning.
In the underground city, those strange beings were emerging from their incubation pods. They stood at least three meters tall, their skin gleaming with a metallic sheen, covered in runes that matched the architecture of the underground.
"Look at the arrangement of those runes," Zhou Jing suddenly said.
Through my mask, I noticed that the runes on these beings were not chaotic; instead, they formed a flowing circuit, much like the meridians in the human body. Strangely, the flow of these circuits was completely opposite to the five energies we observed on the surface.
Wait! I flipped through my parent's notes and found the page about the five energies. "Look at this annotation," I said.
Next to the diagram of the five energies, my parent had drawn two small circles: one clockwise, representing life; and one counterclockwise, representing death. Between the two circles was a peculiar symbol.
"This isn't an ordinary symbol," Honda Miho said. "It's a schematic for some kind of switch mechanism."
"A switch?" I observed closely and suddenly recalled the reverse mechanism in the basement. Could it be—
"The one in the basement is just a replica," Li Yang interjected. "The real reversal device is at—"
He pointed to the top of the pyramid. In the center of that towering beam of light floated a device identical to the bronze disk in the basement, only much larger.
"It must be activated!" he insisted. "Only by completely reversing the energy flow can we put those beings back to sleep."
"But how do we get there?" Jiang Zhendong pointed at the writhing mass of strange creatures below.
Just then, Nakamura's monster let out a terrible scream. We watched as his body began to disintegrate, his blood actively breaking free from his control.
"No!" he struggled to say. "You are betraying me! I am your master!"
The blood that had been under his control essentially came from these ancient beings; now sensing their master's awakening, it began to respond to his call.
"This is our chance!" Li Yang exclaimed. "They are bound by their own blood; now is the best time to break through."
We quickly devised a plan: Jiang Zhendong and Honda Miho would distract the strange beings while Zhou Jing used her knowledge of the five energies to help me find a way to activate the device. As for Li Yang—
"I'll deal with Nakamura," he said firmly. "That bronze box must be destroyed."
Watching them move, I suddenly realized: Li Yang knew too much. Who exactly was he? How did he understand all this so well?
There was no time for further contemplation. Zhou Jing and I began our ascent up the pyramid. The runes glowed beneath our feet as if guiding our path.
"Be careful!" Zhou Jing suddenly grabbed my arm.
A strange being stood before us. Upon closer inspection, I noticed its eyes sparkled with human-like intelligence. It tilted its head as it studied us, seemingly deep in thought.
Suddenly, it reached out its hand. I braced myself for an attack, but it merely brushed against my wrist and then pointed at my veins.
It was trying to communicate. Zhou Jing said, "Your blood." I recalled what my parent had once said: there are codes hidden in the blood. Could it be that these beings were not trying to attack us, but were instead seeking some kind of connection?
At that moment, the body of the alien entity suddenly began to glow. The runes on its body became extraordinarily bright, forming various patterns. These patterns were identical to the codes in my parent's notes!
Suddenly, it dawned on me: my parent was not researching how to combat them, but was attempting to understand their language. And this reversal device—
I looked at the device atop the pyramid and suddenly understood.
"It's not meant to kill them," I said, "but to correct the flow of energy. The reason they are in a dormant state is that Earth's energy field is incompatible with their life forms. If we can adjust—"
Zhou Jing picked up where I left off: "We can allow the two life forms to coexist peacefully!"
At that moment, the alien being nodded and then performed an unexpected action: it knelt on one knee. I reached out my hand, as if waiting for some kind of ritual to be completed.
In its palm lay a bronze mask.
