Mo Wen could only maneuver sideways, unaware that another paw from the Toe Bear had already swept in his predicted direction. He managed to dodge one massive paw, but the other struck him solidly, sending him crashing into the trunk of a large tree two yards away. The Toe Bear, named for its large paws, had limbs nearly half the size of Mo Wen's body. Fortunately, there were no sharp claws on its paws; otherwise, that blow would have surely been fatal. Even so, Mo Wen felt as if his body had fallen apart. Before he could assess his injuries, another paw came crashing down. He gritted his teeth against the pain and quickly dodged, and thus began a frantic chase through the forest, with Mo Wen occasionally taking hits that worsened his condition. 0

“Fight or die; this is too frustrating,” Mo Wen gasped as he leaned against a tree. He had been pursued for an hour. Normally, if he exceeded a certain distance, the Toe Bear would stop chasing him. However, he had been circling this forest to engage in battle, and now he was suffering from internal injuries. He could choose to flee, but that would defeat the purpose of coming here. Not far away, the Toe Bear was also panting; after all, it had been running for an hour as well and was not known for its endurance. Mo Wen maintained a safe distance from the bear; within that range, he could react in time if it attacked. His Butcher Knife was long gone, but he decided that today he would bite down and kill this bear with his bare teeth if necessary. After calming his breath and wiping the blood from his mouth, he approached the Toe Bear. 0

Seeing the one it had been relentlessly chasing walk toward it, the bear hesitated. That moment of distraction allowed Mo Wen to close the gap quickly. What followed was a life-and-death struggle; he felt as if he had entered a wondrous realm where he had boundless energy… 0

When Old Lu looked at the unconscious child and the dead bear beside him, he shook his head helplessly and disappeared into the night with both. 0

When Mo Wen awoke again, he found himself lying in Old Lu's medicinal cauldron. According to Old Lu, this would aid in his recovery. 0

“Old Lu, what happened to that bear?” 0

“The old man found it dead when he got there. You were close to death yourself. Considering how I saved your life again, shouldn’t you bring back something delicious to repay me?” Old Lu said while drinking wine. He felt uncomfortable without Mo Wen's culinary contributions over the past few days. 0

“Then let’s eat that bear,” Mo Wen replied, knowing Old Lu must have brought it back. 0

Looking at the braised bear paw and stewed bear heart before him, Old Lu was nearly drooling. As long as Mo Wen was preparing new dishes, Old Lu was right there beside him; after all, besides good wine, he loved good food. 0

“Mo, Old Man now confirms that you will definitely become a renowned Cook in the martial world… I suspect you might be a reincarnation of some legendary Cook; it’s just that I’ve never heard of any Cook reaching that realm…” Old Lu said while stuffing meat into his mouth. 0

“I won’t become just any Cook.” 0

“What’s wrong with being a Cook?” 0

“Even if I become a Cook, I will be an unparalleled Cook.” 0

“Good ambition! Old Man believes you will become an outstanding Cook…” 0
