"Look at you, child, you've forgotten your mother again." The woman stood up and walked in front of Mo Wen, bending down to stroke his head, her eyes filled with love.
"Mother? You... you are my mother!" Mo Wen looked at the woman, unable to speak from excitement. He had never seen his mother before, and the woman before him was indeed his mother. He threw himself into her embrace.
"Mother, I missed you so much!" He immediately began to cry.
"Alright, my child, I missed you too. You mustn't run off everywhere anymore; otherwise, you'll forget your mother again. Wen'er, be good. Your father went out to gather herbs; believe that you will get better soon." The woman held Mo Wen and gently patted his back to comfort him.
"Enough now, no more crying. Wen'er is destined to become the strongest man in this world; how can he cry so easily? Come, look, today I made your favorite porridge. Make sure to eat a lot later." The woman set Mo Wen down from her arms and squatted beside him, holding his shoulders.
"Come, let me serve you a bowl of porridge..." The woman picked up a bowl to serve the porridge. "Hmm? Oh no!" She immediately dropped the bowl and grabbed a sword from the wall, rushing outside.
In the open space in front of the house, the woman stood there while Mo Wen followed her out, hiding behind her. In the distance stood a creature that was neither human nor ghost. Upon seeing Mo Wen and the woman, it charged toward them. The woman also rushed forward with her sword, but after just one exchange, she was injured and fell to the ground. Seeing his mother hurt made Mo Wen rush forward in panic.
"Mother!"
" Wen'er! Don't come over, run!" The creature turned its attention to Mo Wen and charged toward him. At that moment, the fallen woman stood up to block it and shouted back at Mo Wen.
"Run! Live on!" She used her last bit of strength to shout at Mo Wen. Watching his mother being killed by the monster right before him shattered him.
"Mother!..." He jolted awake from his bed.
"Mo! What happened to you?" Old Lu was nearly face-to-face with Mo Wen at this point. The boy had only been asleep for a short while before he started crying for his parents. To prevent any accidents, Old Lu came over to check on him.
"Old Lu! I saw my mother! She... she died." Seeing Old Lu in front of him first filled Mo Wen with joy at having seen his mother, but then he started crying again.
...
"I see now. But the place you described has never been seen by me; such monsters do not exist in this world." After finally calming Mo Wen down, Old Lu learned about everything that had happened. However, once Mo Wen's emotions settled, he began to ask Old Lu if such a place existed.
"Maybe you just don't know about it," Old Lu replied.
"No way! Although Old Man hasn't traveled everywhere in the world, he knows about all kinds of strange places and events. I've never heard of such a place; none of the major seas in this world match your description. Sigh, I've told you before: what you think about during the day will manifest in your dreams at night. It seems this dream was caused by your longing for your mother. As for what happened in that dream, it's a test; if you let it defeat you now, you'll never become strong..." Old Lu felt a deep sorrow within himself; this boy had finally begun to recover from the upheaval in the Refining Qi Realm but now faced another setback that would make it difficult for him to regain his strength again.
