Park Bucheng stood by the window of the abandoned farm, watching the taillights of the police cars gradually disappear into the night. A cold smile crept onto his lips. Han Mi Na and Zhao Yuhang had left with the SWAT team, but they hadn’t managed to take him away.
"Boss, you’ve really gone big this time," Li Meili said as she approached him, handing him a cup of hot tea. "You’ve stirred up the prosecutor's office and the Chaebol. What’s next?"
Park Bucheng took the cup and sipped lightly. "This is just the beginning."
Jin Da Yong pushed the door open, a hint of anxiety on his face. "Boss, our informant in the prosecutor's office has sent word that they’ve reached an agreement with the Taiji Consortium. They’re preparing a joint operation to completely eliminate us, the Tai Chi Gang."
Park Bucheng frowned slightly. "When did this happen?"
"This afternoon. Chief Prosecutor Zhao met with Li Mingzhe in person and signed a secret agreement."
Setting down his tea cup, Park Bucheng’s gaze sharpened. "It seems our earlier actions have alarmed them. Pass the word down—every Gang Stronghold goes into high alert. Also, notify our informant A Qiang; I need to know more details."
Jin Da Yong nodded and left, but Li Meili looked worried. "Boss, this situation is different from before. The prosecutor's office and the Chaebol are teaming up; we might..."
Park Bucheng interrupted her. "The more dangerous it is, the more opportunity we have. Go get Li Zhenghao and Park Ji Ming; we need to hold an emergency meeting."
Half an hour later, in the basement of the farm, Park Bucheng, Li Zhenghao, Li Meili, and Park Ji Ming sat around a simple wooden table. Several documents were spread out on the table along with a laptop displaying Jin Da Yong’s face.
"The situation is urgent, so I’ll be brief," Park Bucheng said solemnly. "The prosecutor's office and Taiji Consortium have joined forces and are preparing a full-scale crackdown on us."
Li Zhenghao slammed his fist on the table. "Damn it! I said we should strike first and take out Choi Ji-ho and Li Mingzhe!"
Park Bucheng shot him a cold glance. "Sit down."
Just those two words made Li Zhenghao squirm in his seat, reluctantly returning to his chair.
"A Qiang has just sent in new intel." Park Bucheng opened a folder on the table and pulled out several photographs. "These are pictures of Choi Ji-ho and Li Mingzhe meeting, along with copies of their signed agreement."
Everyone leaned in to take a closer look at the photos showing Choi Ji-ho and Li Mingzhe shaking hands in a private room of an upscale restaurant, flanked by several suited bodyguards.
"The contents of the agreement are straightforward," Park Bucheng continued. "The prosecutor's office provides legal support and police force while Taiji Consortium offers funding and political protection to jointly eliminate Tai Chi Gang. The operation is codenamed 'Lightning' and is scheduled to be executed in three days."
"Three days?" Park Ji Ming frowned. "That's too tight. We won't have enough time to transfer all our assets and personnel."
Li Meili nodded in agreement. "Moreover, our several Gang Strongholds in Busan have just been established and haven't formed effective defenses yet."
Li Zhenghao scoffed, "What are we afraid of? When soldiers come, we fight; when water comes, we block it. We have enough guns and ammunition. Are we really scared of those guys in suits?"
Park Bucheng shook his head. "You're too naive. This operation isn't just a regular police crackdown; it's a premeditated political purge. They will deploy special forces, and there might even be military support."
"What should we do then?" Park Ji Ming asked. "Are we just going to sit here and wait for our doom?"
Park Bucheng didn't answer immediately but turned to the computer screen. "Da Yong, how's it going on your end?"
Jin Da Yong's voice came through the computer. "I've contacted a few friends in politics, but none of them dare to step forward. It seems the Taiji Consortium is dead set on eliminating us this time."
Li Zhenghao slammed his fist on the table. "Damn it, these fence-sitters! They happily take our money, but when trouble arises, they act deaf and dumb!"
Park Bucheng signaled for him to calm down and then pulled out another document from the folder. "A Qiang has provided an even more crucial piece of intelligence—the detailed action plan for the 'Lightning Plan.'"
Everyone perked up, and even Jin Da Yong straightened up at the screen.
Park Bucheng opened the document and began to analyze it. "According to this plan, they will act in three phases. The first phase is to freeze all our bank accounts and assets; the second phase is to simultaneously raid all our Gang Strongholds in Seoul, Busan, and Daegu; the third phase is to expose our connections with politicians through the media, completely cutting off our political protection."
Li Meili's face turned pale. "This is aiming to wipe us out completely."
Park Ji Ming frowned in thought. "We can transfer funds in advance, but it's difficult to evacuate all the Gang Strongholds and personnel in such a short time."
Li Zhenghao became agitated again. "Then let's counterattack! Strike first! We have enough firepower to take out Choi Ji-ho and Li Mingzhe's lair directly!"
Park Bucheng looked at him coldly. "And then what? Then we'll become nationally wanted terrorists with nowhere to hide."
Li Zhenghao was momentarily silenced but still unwilling to back down. "Then what do you suggest we do?"
Park Bucheng was silent for a moment, a glint of insight flashing in his eyes. "We can't fight head-on; we need to be clever about this."
He stood up and walked to the map of Seoul hanging on the wall. "Their plan seems meticulous, but in reality, it is full of flaws. First, they underestimate our intelligence network; second, they overestimate their own execution capabilities; most importantly, they do not understand our true strength."
Park Bucheng pointed to several locations on the map. "These are the targets they plan to raid, but what they don't know is that our real core stronghold is not located in any of these places."
Li Meili suddenly understood. "You mean, let them strike at nothing?"
Park Bucheng nodded. "Not only do we want them to strike at nothing, but we also want them to throw themselves into chaos."
He turned to Park Ji Ming. "Ji Ming, you are responsible for transferring funds. Disperse all cash and prepare several fake accounts, intentionally leaving traces to lure them in."
Park Ji Ming nodded in understanding. "Got it."
Park Bucheng then looked at Li Meili. "Meili, you will handle intelligence work. Spread the word that we have received news and are preparing to flee to Japan, diverting their attention."
Li Meili flashed a cunning smile. "Leave it to me."
Finally, Park Bucheng turned to Li Zhenghao. "Zhenghao, you are in charge of armed preparations, but remember, only for defense—do not take the initiative."
Li Zhenghao pouted in dissatisfaction but nodded nonetheless.
Park Bucheng faced the computer screen. "Dayong, continue contacting our political friends. We don’t need them to intervene; we just need them to remain neutral."
Jin Da Yong nodded. "Understood."
Park Bucheng surveyed everyone. "Remember, our goal is not to confront them head-on but to confuse them, causing them to falter and ultimately abandon this operation."
Li Zhenghao still expressed discontent. "Is that it? Just this little counterattack?"
Park Bucheng's gaze suddenly sharpened. "Of course it's not just this. This is merely the surface plan; the real counterattack is known only to me."
Li Zhenghao was intimidated by his gaze and dared not speak further.
"And one more thing," Park Bucheng added, "I suspect there is a mole among us."
The words detonated like a bomb in the small basement. Everyone exchanged wary glances, and the air instantly thickened.
"What do you mean?" Li Zhenghao was the first to speak, his voice trembling slightly.
Park Bucheng calmly explained, "Certain details of the 'Lightning Plan' are known only to us core members, such as our new Gang Stronghold location in Busan. This plan precisely marks those locations."
Li Meili gasped, "Are you saying someone has betrayed us?"
Park Bucheng nodded. "Not only have they betrayed us, but they may have been working for the Prosecutor's Office or the Taiji Consortium all along."
Li Zhenghao immediately grew agitated. "Who is it? I will personally take down this traitor!"
Park Bucheng shook his head. "We can't be sure yet, but I have my suspicions. For safety's sake, from now on, our plans will only be known to those in this room and must not be leaked."
Everyone responded in unison.
Park Bucheng continued, "Also, each of us must act cautiously and not easily trust anyone, including our old friends."
He glanced at his watch. "It's getting late; we should split up. Remember, during the operation in three days, we not only need to retreat safely but also give the Prosecutor's Office and the Taiji Consortium a lesson they won't forget."
The meeting concluded, and everyone left. Only Park Bucheng remained in the basement, staring at the map on the wall with a deep gaze.
"Li Zhenghao," he murmured to himself, "you think I don't know you're the mole?"
Park Bucheng pulled out a small recording device from his pocket and pressed play. Li Zhenghao's voice came through clearly: "Yes, Prosecutor Choi, I have mastered all of Tai Chi Gang's core Gang Stronghold locations... Yes, Park Bucheng completely trusts me... No, he doesn't know I'm working for you..."
Park Bucheng turned off the recording device, a cold smile creeping onto his lips. "You think you're playing chess, but little do you know, you're just a pawn on the board."
He picked up his phone and dialed a number. "A Qiang, it's time to start the plan. Remember, in three days, the Prosecutor's Office and the Taiji Consortium will face their darkest day."
After hanging up, Park Bucheng walked to the window and gazed into the pitch-black night outside, dangerous light flickering in his eyes. He knew a monumental Power Struggle was about to unfold, and he would be its orchestrator.
The night was as dark as ink, concealing all conspiracies and threats. Park Bucheng's silhouette at the window appeared particularly solitary yet resolute, like a drawn sword ready to pierce through the darkness.
At that moment, his phone suddenly vibrated. Park Bucheng glanced at the screen and saw an unfamiliar number. After a moment's hesitation, he answered the call.
"Hello?"
A cold voice came from the other end. "Park Bucheng, I hear you’re looking for me?"
Park Bucheng's pupils constricted as he tightened his grip on the phone. "Kim Tae-wook?"
"That's right, it's me." Kim Tae-wook's voice carried a hint of mockery. "Surprised that I would take the initiative to contact you?"
Park Bucheng quickly regained his composure. "What do you want?"
"I just wanted to let you know," Kim Tae-wook's tone suddenly turned menacing, "'Lightning Plan' is just the beginning; the real storm is yet to come."
A chill ran through Park Bucheng. "What do you mean?"
"You'll find out soon enough." Kim Tae-wook let out a cold laugh. "By the way, say hello to Li Zhenghao for me. Tell him his value has diminished significantly."
The call abruptly ended, leaving Park Bucheng standing by the window, his brow furrowed.
The winds of change were brewing, and a larger conspiracy was quietly unfolding.
