Lin Yuan squinted, staring at the figure in a black trench coat before him. Han Lingyun's face, adorned with a playful smile, made him feel uneasy. 0

"Want a share of the pie?" Lin Yuan scoffed. "You really think too highly of yourself." 0

Han Lingyun shrugged, her smile unwavering. "Oh come on, don’t say that. We’ve known each other for quite some time, haven’t we?" 0

As the two faced off, the moving mountain suddenly came to a halt. A blinding light shot from its peak, followed by an ancient voice echoing in everyone's ears. 0

"Young ones, you have passed my test. As a reward, I will reveal a secret to you." 0

Lin Yuan and Su Jiu'er exchanged glances, both surprised by what they heard. 0

"What secret?" Lin Yuan asked. 0

"The secret about Han Lingyun," the voice continued. "She has established a Hidden Base deep in the mountains, where the answers you seek are hidden." 0

Han Lingyun's expression changed instantly. "Damn old fool, shut up!" 0

She struck out fiercely, a stream of Lingqi transforming into a blade that shot towards the mountain peak. However, as soon as the Lingqi touched the mountain, it dissipated like foam. 0

"Futile effort," the voice mocked. "Young ones, remember this: the truth lies within that abandoned mine. But be cautious; what you see on the surface may not be real." 0

As soon as the words were spoken, the mountain returned to its stillness, as if everything that had just transpired had never happened. 0

Han Lingyun glared at Lin Yuan and his companions through gritted teeth. "You won't succeed!" With that, her figure suddenly vanished from sight, leaving only a chill in the air. 0

"What is going on?" Zhou Haoran scratched his head, looking utterly confused. "Why do I feel like we've been pulled into a soap opera?" 0

Su Jiu'er frowned. "Regardless, we need to check out that mine." 0

Lin Yuan nodded. "I agree. But before that, we need to find the Indigenous Leader; he should know the secrets of this mountain." 0

The three quickly located the Indigenous Leader, an elderly man with a face full of wrinkles and a long beard. When Lin Yuan inquired about the mine, the old man's eyes flickered for a moment. 0

"The mine? Oh, you mean that cursed place?" The old man shook his head. "It's very dangerous; no one dares to go there." 0

"But we have to," Lin Yuan said firmly. "Please tell us how to find it." 0

The old man sighed. "Alright, since you insist. The mine is deep in the mountains to the east. Follow the stream, and you'll see a waterfall. The mine is behind the waterfall." 0

Lin Yuan thanked him and turned to leave, but the old man called out to him. 0

"Wait, young man." The elder handed Lin Yuan a small pouch. "Take this; it will protect you." 0

Lin Yuan accepted the cloth bag, feeling something heavy inside. After expressing his gratitude, he left the village with Su Jiu'er and Zhou Haoran. 0

"Do you think what that old man said is true?" Zhou Haoran asked as they walked. 0

Lin Yuan shook his head. "Not entirely. I feel like he's hiding something." 0

Su Jiu'er nodded in agreement. "I feel the same way. His gaze was quite unnatural." 0

Following the old man's guidance, the three of them found the small stream and moved along its course. Along the way, Lin Yuan opened the Cloth Bag given by the old man, revealing several strange stones inscribed with peculiar runes. 0

"What are these?" Zhou Haoran asked curiously as he picked up one of the stones. 0

"They look like some kind of talisman," Su Jiu'er observed closely. "The runes are very ancient and seem to be able to ward off certain energy attacks." 0

Lin Yuan pondered, "It seems that old man wasn't completely deceiving us after all." 0

After several hours, they finally arrived at the waterfall. The waterfall was majestic, with water cascading down like a silver ribbon, producing a deafening roar. 0

"The mine should be right behind the waterfall," Lin Yuan shouted, his voice nearly drowned out by the thunderous sound of the water. 0

The three of them circled to the side of the waterfall, trying to find a path leading behind it. However, they were surrounded by steep rock walls with no passage in sight. 0

"Strange, why isn't there a way?" Zhou Haoran said in confusion. 0

Just then, Su Jiu'er suddenly stopped in her tracks and closed her eyes, as if sensing something. 0

"What's wrong?" Lin Yuan asked. 0

Su Jiu'er opened her eyes, a strange light flickering within them. "I sense a powerful Spiritual Energy Fluctuation coming from that direction." She pointed toward the left side of the waterfall. 0

Lin Yuan followed her point direction and saw an ordinary rock. He walked over to examine it closely and suddenly noticed a nearly invisible crack on the surface. 0

“There’s a door!” Lin Yuan exclaimed excitedly. 0

He pushed the rock with all his might, but it didn’t budge. After a moment of thought, Lin Yuan took a stone from his Cloth Bag and placed it next to the crack. The runes on the stone suddenly lit up, and the rock slowly moved aside, revealing a dark opening. 0

“Wow, this is so cool!” Zhou Haoran marveled, “Just like in the movies!” 0

The three of them cautiously entered the opening and found themselves in a narrow passageway, with glowing crystals embedded in the walls providing a faint source of light. 0

“These are Spirit Stones,” Su Jiu'er said. “They contain a high concentration of Lingqi.” 0

Lin Yuan nodded. “It seems this base is indeed extraordinary.” 0

As they walked further, the passage widened, eventually leading to a massive cavern. In the center of the cavern was a large pool of water, surrounded by various strange instruments and devices. 0

“What is this place?” Zhou Haoran asked in astonishment as he looked around. 0

“It looks like some kind of laboratory,” Lin Yuan said as he approached one of the instruments for a closer inspection. 0

Suddenly, Su Jiu'er gasped. “Look over there!” 0

Following her gaze, Lin Yuan and Zhou Haoran were both shocked. At the other end of the cavern were several enormous glass jars containing humanoid creatures, connected to various tubes. 0
"This... is this Human Experimentation?" Zhou Haoran's voice trembled. 0

Lin Yuan stepped closer to the glass jar, carefully observing the creatures inside. They resembled humans, but their bodies bore clear signs of modification; some had grown scales, while others had transformed arms that ended in claws. 0

"What on earth is Han Lingyun doing?" Lin Yuan murmured. 0

At that moment, a cold voice came from behind them: "I am creating new life forms. So, what do you think of my masterpiece?" 0

The three of them turned sharply to see Han Lingyun standing at the cave entrance, flanked by several burly bodyguards. 0

"Have you lost your mind?" Lin Yuan demanded sharply. "These are living people!" 0

Han Lingyun chuckled lightly. "Don't be so agitated; they all volunteered. For the sake of scientific progress, someone has to make sacrifices." 0

"Volunteered?" Su Jiu'er scoffed. "I think they’ve been brainwashed by you." 0

Han Lingyun shrugged dismissively. "Call it what you want. However, since you’re already here, why not join my experiment? I happen to need a few high-quality samples." 0

With that, she snapped her fingers, and the bodyguards immediately lunged at the three of them. 0

Lin Yuan quickly activated the Time Manipulator, and time seemed to slow around him. He grabbed Su Jiu'er and Zhou Haoran's hands and swiftly dodged the guards' attack. 0

"Run!" Lin Yuan shouted. 0

The three turned and ran, but the cave's exit had already been blocked by Han Lingyun's men. 0

"That way!" Su Jiu'er pointed to a small passage deeper in the cave. 0

They dashed into the passage, and behind them came Han Lingyun's furious shout: "Catch them! Don't let them escape!" 0

The passage grew narrower, forcing the three to bend down as they moved. Suddenly, Zhou Haoran stumbled and bumped into a protrusion on the wall. 0

"Beep beep beep—" A piercing alarm sounded, and the entire cave began to tremble. 0

"Damn it!" Lin Yuan cursed, "You've triggered the alarm system!" 0

Zhou Haoran looked apologetic. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to!" 0

The alarm grew louder, and the tremors intensified. Suddenly, a crack opened up in the ground ahead, revealing a dark abyss below. 0

"We're trapped!" Su Jiu'er exclaimed. 0

Lin Yuan quickly scanned the area for a possible escape route. Just then, he noticed a small Ventilation Duct at the top of the passage. 0

"There!" Lin Yuan pointed at the Ventilation Duct. "We can escape through there!" 0

The Ventilation Duct was small but just big enough for one person to squeeze through. Lin Yuan helped Su Jiu'er climb up first, followed by Zhou Haoran. Just as Lin Yuan was about to climb up himself, he heard footsteps approaching from behind. 0

"They're here!" a bodyguard's voice rang out. 0

Lin Yuan gritted his teeth and quickly activated the Time Manipulator, pausing time for three seconds. In that brief moment, he swiftly climbed into the Ventilation Duct, catching up with Su Jiu'er and Zhou Haoran. 0

The Ventilation Duct was narrow and dark, forcing the three of them to crawl forward. After a challenging trek, they finally saw a glimmer of light ahead. 0

"That's the exit!" Zhou Haoran exclaimed excitedly. 0

The trio quickened their pace and soon reached the exit. It was a small opening leading out into the forest. They quickly squeezed through and found themselves far from the waterfall, on the other side of the woods. 0

"We're safe," Su Jiu'er sighed in relief. 0

Lin Yuan shook his head. "Safe for now. Han Lingyun won't let us go." 0

Zhou Haoran pulled a Small Scanner from his backpack and began scanning the surroundings. "We need to get out of here quickly and find a safe place to hide." 0

Just then, Lin Yuan's communicator suddenly beeped. Upon answering, an unfamiliar voice came through. "Mr. Lin Yuan, I am an agent from the Qi Yun Investigation Bureau. We have monitored Han Lingyun's base location and need your assistance." 0

Lin Yuan furrowed his brow. "Qi Yun Investigation Bureau? How do you know we're here?" 0

"That's not important," the voice continued. "What matters is that Han Lingyun's experiments are threatening the safety of the entire cultivation world. We need your help to stop her." 0

Lin Yuan glanced at Su Jiu'er and Zhou Haoran; both nodded in agreement. 0

"Alright," Lin Yuan said into the communicator, "what should we do?" 0

"There's a small cabin to the east of the forest; that's our temporary Secret Base," the voice replied. "Come there, and we'll tell you more information." 0

After the communication ended, Lin Yuan pondered for a moment. "This feels a bit suspicious." 0

Su Jiu'er nodded in agreement. "Indeed. The sudden appearance of the Qi Yun Investigation Bureau is too coincidental." 0

"But we have no choice now," Zhou Haoran said. "At least it's safer there than here." 0

Lin Yuan sighed. "Fine, let's go take a look. But be careful; this could be a trap." 0

The three of them headed east toward the forest, filled with doubts and vigilance. What was Han Lingyun's experiment really for? What were the intentions of the Qi Yun Investigation Bureau? It seemed that a larger conspiracy was hidden behind all of this. 0

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to them, Han Lingyun stood before a massive display screen that showed the movement trajectories of Lin Yuan and his companions. 0

"Run, run," Han Lingyun sneered. "You can't escape my grasp." 0

Behind her, a figure wearing a mask slowly approached. "Boss, should I go bring them back?" 0

Han Lingyun shook her head. "No need. Let them meet that so-called 'agent.' I'm curious to see their expressions when they discover the truth." A strange smile curled at the corners of her mouth. 0
