Lin Yuan looked at the distant flashing red and blue lights of the police sirens, feeling a sense of foreboding. They had just dealt with Han Lingyun, and now they were facing the pursuit of the Qi Yun Investigation Bureau. It seemed that misfortune was piling on top of misfortune.
"Quick, let's go!" Su Jiu'er grabbed Lin Yuan's arm. "I know a shortcut that can help us avoid their search."
Taking advantage of the cover of night, the three quickly slipped into a nearby thicket. Lin Yuan supported the injured Zhou Haoran while Su Jiu'er led the way. They navigated through the intricate alleys and finally arrived at an abandoned factory.
"This should be safe for now," Su Jiu'er said, panting as she pulled out a small medical kit from her backpack. "Hao Ran, let me take a look at your injury."
Zhou Haoran grinned, displaying an expression of nonchalance. "It's just a minor wound. Compared to those guys we took down back at the base, this is nothing."
Just as Su Jiu'er was tending to Zhou Haoran's wound, the entire factory suddenly shook violently. Dust fell from the walls, and cracks began to appear in the floor.
"What’s happening?" Lin Yuan quickly steadied Su Jiu'er, who nearly fell over. "Is it an earthquake?"
Su Jiu'er’s expression changed dramatically as she hurriedly pulled out the Ancient Compass from her pocket. The compass needle spun wildly before finally pointing in the direction of the base they had just left.
"This is bad!" Su Jiu'er exclaimed. "After Han Lingyun died, the Energy Core at the base went out of control!"
No sooner had she spoken than a deafening explosion echoed from afar. Even from several kilometers away, they could feel the terrifying shockwave. The factory's windows shattered instantly, sending glass shards flying everywhere.
"Get down!" Lin Yuan shouted as he activated the Time Manipulator, creating a temporary barrier around them.
The aftermath of the explosion quickly subsided, but something even more terrifying was just beginning. A massive vortex appeared in the sky, as if it were about to swallow the entire city.
"What on earth is that?" Zhou Haoran stared in disbelief at the phenomenon above.
Su Jiu'er’s expression turned serious. "The collapse of the Energy Core has caused a Time-Space Distortion. If I'm not mistaken, this parallel world we’re in is collapsing!"
"What? The parallel world is collapsing?" Lin Yuan exclaimed in shock. "Does that mean we’re going to be buried here?"
Su Jiu'er bit her lip. "Theoretically, yes. But..." Suddenly, an idea struck her, and her eyes lit up. "There’s a Teleportation Device at the base! If we can activate it, we might be able to return to our Original World!"
"The problem is, the base has turned into a wasteland now," Zhou Haoran said helplessly. "How are we supposed to find that Teleportation Device?"
Lin Yuan pondered for a moment and suddenly slapped his forehead. "I remember Han Lingyun mentioning that the Teleportation Device is located on the lowest level of the base, protected by special materials. Even if the base collapses, it won't be easily damaged."
"Then what are we waiting for?" Zhou Haoran scrambled to his feet but winced in pain from his shoulder injury. "Ugh... Let's go; it's better than waiting here to die."
The three of them hurriedly left the factory and rushed toward the ruins of the base. On the way, they witnessed a shocking scene: the entire city seemed to have been paused, with pedestrians and vehicles frozen in place, while a massive vortex in the sky continued to expand.
"Time Stopped?" Lin Yuan exclaimed, staring at the scene before him.
Su Jiu'er shook her head. "It's not Time Stopped; rather, the flow of time has slowed down drastically. For them, it might have only been a moment, but for us, it could be several minutes or even hours."
"Why are we unaffected?" Zhou Haoran asked curiously.
"It might be because we were just near the center of the Energy Core explosion, and we've been exposed to special energy fluctuations," Su Jiu'er explained. "This has temporarily shielded us from the abnormal flow of time."
Before long, they arrived at the ruins of the base. The once grand buildings were now nothing but a chaotic mess of debris and rubble.
"How do we search? This vast wasteland feels like looking for a needle in a haystack," Zhou Haoran said, feeling somewhat disheartened as he surveyed the chaos before him.
Su Jiu'er took out her compass again. "Don't worry; my compass can sense energy fluctuations. The Teleportation Device will definitely have a strong energy response."
The compass needle quickly pointed toward the northeast direction of the ruins. The three of them cautiously navigated through the debris, avoiding unstable remnants of buildings.
Suddenly, Lin Yuan stopped in his tracks and looked around warily. "Someone's here!"
No sooner had he spoken than several dark figures sprang from the ruins, surrounding the trio. Leading them was a tall man wearing a Black Mask, revealing only his pair of cold eyes.
"Lin Yuan, we meet again," the man said coldly, his voice carrying an unsettling familiarity.
Lin Yuan squinted, carefully scrutinizing the man before him. "You are... Li Honghe?"
The man removed his mask, revealing a handsome yet stern face. "Indeed, that is me."
"Shouldn't you be at the Qi Gong Association headquarters? What are you doing here?" Lin Yuan asked warily.
Li Honghe let out a cold laugh. "Han Lingyun was merely a pawn in my game. Her death was part of my plan."
"What?" Lin Yuan stared at Li Honghe in shock. "You had everything planned out from the beginning?"
"Of course," Li Honghe replied proudly. "The experiment in this parallel world is nearing its end. It's time to reap the rewards. And you all will conveniently help me test the stability of the Teleportation Device."
As he spoke, he snapped his fingers. The black-clad men behind him immediately stepped forward, seizing Lin Yuan and his companions and dragging them deeper into the ruins.
"What do you want?" Lin Yuan struggled to ask.
Li Honghe walked leisurely ahead, hands clasped behind his back. "It's simple. I intend to use the energy fluctuations caused by Han Lingyun's death to activate the Teleportation Device, absorbing all the energy from this parallel world into our Original World. With that, I will wield unprecedented power."
"You’re insane!" Su Jiu'er exclaimed. "This will lead to the collapse of both worlds!"
Li Honghe dismissed her concern with a wave. "Sacrifice is necessary. For a greater goal, what is this minor cost?"
Under Li Honghe's lead, they soon arrived at the deepest part of the ruins. There stood a massive metal hatch that appeared completely unaffected by the explosion.
Li Honghe entered a password, and the hatch slowly opened, revealing a gigantic circular platform inside. Surrounding the platform were dozens of energy columns, and at its center was a complex control console.
"This is the Teleportation Device," Li Honghe said, looking at it with satisfaction. "Now, it's time for it to perform its function."
He approached the control console and began to operate it. Soon, the energy columns lit up with blinding blue light, and the entire platform began to tremble.
"Not good!" Su Jiu'er suddenly exclaimed, "The energy is unstable! He's forcing the Teleportation Device to activate!"
Sure enough, the alarm lights on the control panel began to flash, and a piercing alarm echoed throughout the space.
"Warning! Energy Core unstable! System imminent collapse! Please evacuate immediately!" a mechanical female voice announced.
Li Honghe's face changed dramatically. "What’s going on? According to the calculations, the energy should be sufficient!"
At that moment, Lin Yuan suddenly felt a wave of dizziness wash over him. Looking down, he noticed his arm had become translucent, as if it could vanish at any moment.
"Lin Yuan!" Su Jiu'er looked at him in horror. "What’s wrong with you?"
Lin Yuan gritted his teeth. "It might be the Time Manipulator getting disrupted. I need to focus on controlling it."
Meanwhile, Li Honghe and his subordinates began to exhibit similar symptoms. The entire space seemed to warp, with walls and floors starting to distort.
"Damn it!" Li Honghe cursed. "The plan has failed! Retreat!"
With that, he pressed a red button on the control panel and instantly vanished from sight. His subordinates quickly activated their own Teleportation Devices, fleeing from the collapsing world.
"They're running away!" Zhou Haoran exclaimed.
Lin Yuan couldn't afford to pay attention to the fleeing enemies and rushed toward the control panel. "We need to leave quickly! This world won't hold for much longer!"
He began to operate the control panel, but the complex interface left him bewildered. "Damn it, I don’t know how to use this thing!"
Su Jiu'er pushed Lin Yuan aside. "Let me handle it! I've learned similar operations at the Qi Yun Investigation Bureau."
Her fingers danced across the control panel, and soon a blue portal appeared in the center of the platform.
"Get inside now!" Su Jiu'er shouted.
Without a word, Zhou Haoran dashed into the portal. Lin Yuan was about to follow when he noticed that Su Jiu'er had not moved.
"Why aren't you going?" Lin Yuan asked anxiously.
Su Jiu'er bit her lip. "Someone needs to stay behind to maintain the stability of the portal. Otherwise, you might be transported to random locations."
"Then I'll stay!" Lin Yuan insisted.
Su Jiu'er shook her head. "No, your Time Manipulator is more useful in the Original World. Besides..." She revealed a bitter smile, "I belong to this world."
"What do you mean?" Lin Yuan looked at her in shock.
"There's no time to explain!" Su Jiu'er suddenly pushed Lin Yuan, "Go now!"
In that critical moment, Lin Yuan activated the Time Reversal Function of the Time Manipulator. Time seemed to flow backward for a few seconds, and he found himself standing in front of Su Jiu'er again.
"I won't leave you behind," Lin Yuan said firmly, grabbing Su Jiu'er's hand. "We'll go together!"
Su Jiu'er wanted to say something, but Lin Yuan had already pulled her toward the portal. Just as they were about to step through, the entire space shook violently, and a massive Metal Plate fell from above!
"Watch out!" Lin Yuan shouted as he forcefully pushed Su Jiu'er into the portal, but he was struck by the Metal Plate on his leg.
"Lin Yuan!" Su Jiu'er's scream came from beyond the portal, but it was quickly drowned out by the humming of the portal.
Gritting his teeth against the pain, Lin Yuan used all his strength to pull his leg free from under the Metal Plate. His leg was mangled and bloody, but he couldn't afford to feel the pain as he crawled toward the portal.
The portal was rapidly shrinking and was about to close. With a determined heart, Lin Yuan activated the last bit of energy in the Time Manipulator and paused time for one second.
In that precious moment, he successfully leaped into the portal.
After a dizzying spin, Lin Yuan landed heavily on the ground. He looked up and realized he was in a familiar place—his apartment in the Original World.
Su Jiu'er and Zhou Haoran were anxiously standing nearby. When they saw Lin Yuan return safely, both let out a sigh of relief.
"You crazy fool!" Su Jiu'er exclaimed, half-laughing and half-crying as she rushed over. "You almost scared me to death!"
Zhou Haoran patted Lin Yuan on the shoulder. "Bro, your leg..."
Lin Yuan glanced down at his injured leg and was surprised to find that the wound had begun to heal. "The Time Manipulator's ability... seems to have strengthened."
Just as the three of them were rejoicing at their narrow escape, a piercing siren suddenly blared from outside the window.
"Not again?" Lin Yuan sighed as he looked out, only to see a small vortex forming in the sky, eerily similar to the one they had witnessed in the parallel world.
"No way..." Zhou Haoran stared in shock at the strange phenomenon outside. "Could the collapse of that world be affecting this side?"
Su Jiu'er’s expression turned serious. "It seems so. The energy fluctuations from the parallel world have penetrated the time-space barrier and are starting to impact our world."
Lin Yuan stood up and walked to the window, gazing at the ever-expanding vortex. A sense of unprecedented mission surged within him. "It looks like our fight has only just begun."
Outside, the sirens grew louder, and the vortex in the sky continued to grow larger. A new crisis, new challenges awaited them.
Meanwhile, in the ruins of the parallel world, a pale hand emerged from the debris, tightly grasping a fragment that shimmered with an eerie light. Han Lingyun—or what was once Han Lingyun—was slowly awakening...
