It was an ordinary afternoon, and I was busy preparing dinner in the kitchen. Sunlight streamed through the window, casting a golden hue over the vegetables on the cutting board. I hummed a little tune, my knife dancing up and down in rhythm, enjoying this rare moment of tranquility.
Suddenly, a gasp from behind shattered the harmony of the kitchen. I turned around sharply to see Li Jianguo standing at the doorway, his eyes wide with shock as he stared at the entrance to the space behind me. A wave of unease washed over me as I realized I had carelessly forgotten to close the Space Portal.
"W-What is this?" Li Jianguo stammered, his eyes as round as saucers.
I took a deep breath, set down the knife, and wiped my hands on a towel. "Jianguo, please don’t panic. Let me explain," I said softly, trying to calm his nerves.
His gaze darted between me and the portal, confusion and anxiety etched across his face. I knew it was time to come clean.
"Jianguo, I know this is hard to believe, but... I come from another world," I began slowly, watching for his reaction.
Li Jianguo stood frozen, as if struck by lightning. I continued to explain, "This space is something I brought with me when I crossed over. It contains many things from my original world and is also the secret behind our family's prosperity over the years."
I detailed my background—how I had accidentally crossed into this world and how I had used the resources within that space to improve our lives at home. My voice trembled with emotion as I spoke.
After listening intently, Li Jianguo remained silent for a long time. I anxiously awaited his response, fearing he might think of me as a monster or simply dismiss my words as nonsense.
Finally, he let out a deep sigh and said, "Lin Xiaohui, I don’t know what to say. This is all... too unbelievable. But I believe you."
His words felt like a heavy stone dropping to the ground, and my tense nerves instantly relaxed. "You... you don’t think I'm strange?" I asked cautiously.
He shook his head, a complex light flickering in his eyes. "Strange? Maybe. But more than that... it’s heartbreaking." He stepped closer and gently took my hand. "You've carried so much alone; it must have been incredibly difficult for you."
I never expected him to understand me this way, and a wave of warmth washed over my heart. "Thank you, Jianguo," I said softly, my eyes growing a bit misty.
"Don't worry, I will keep this secret for you," Li Jianguo said solemnly. "We are family, no matter where you come from, this will always be your home."
Hearing those words, I could no longer control my emotions and threw myself into Li Jianguo's embrace. His strong arms wrapped around me, providing an unparalleled sense of security.
From that day on, there was a subtle change in Li Jianguo's attitude towards me. He became more considerate, often taking the initiative to help with household chores. Sometimes, I would catch him looking at me with eyes full of tenderness and affection.
My heart was no longer as calm as it used to be. Every time our eyes met, I could feel my heart racing and my cheeks flushing. I began to look forward to every moment spent with him, even feeling giddy over just one of his smiles.
This shift in emotions left me both excited and anxious. I worked harder to manage our home, hoping to create a warm and comfortable environment for Li Jianguo and the children. I carefully prepared each meal, kept the house spotless, and occasionally brought out little trinkets from my space to decorate the rooms.
Li Jianguo seemed to notice my efforts, often gazing at my busy figure with gentle eyes. One time, he softly said, "Lin Xiaohui, you don’t have to work so hard. With you here, this home is already perfect."
His words sent sweet ripples through my heart. I knew that our feelings for each other were quietly deepening; although neither of us had spoken about it directly, that unspoken understanding and warmth felt incredibly real.
At the same time, I did not forget to give back to the village that had given me a second chance at life. I began utilizing the resources in my space to help develop the village's economy. I introduced new crop seeds and guided the villagers on scientific farming methods; I also brought out some simple processing equipment from my space to help them increase the added value of their agricultural products.
Gradually, I became the backbone of the village. Whenever villagers encountered difficulties, they would come to me for advice, and I always did my best to help them. Watching the village grow wealthier day by day filled me with a sense of accomplishment.
Li Jianguo consistently supported my endeavors quietly. He wasn't very talkative but always appeared just when I needed help. Sometimes he would assist me in transporting supplies; other times he would look after the children so that I could focus on village affairs.
One evening, we sat outside enjoying the cool breeze. The night sky was dotted with stars, and the sound of crickets filled the air. Li Jianguo suddenly spoke up, "Lin Xiaohui, you are truly remarkable."
I looked at him in surprise, only to find his gaze fixed on me, filled with admiration and affection.
"You not only manage our home so well, but you've also helped the entire village prosper. I... I truly admire you," Li Jianguo continued, a hint of shyness in his voice.
A warmth spread through my heart as I softly replied, "It's what I should do. Besides, without your support, I wouldn't have been able to achieve any of this."
We exchanged smiles, our fingers intertwining in a silent understanding. The night breeze gently caressed us, carrying the fragrance of flowers, as if witnessing the deep and pure bond between us.
Gazing up at the starry sky, I felt a surge of hope for the future. I knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, as long as Li Jianguo was by my side, I would have the courage to face anything. I silently vowed to cherish this hard-won happiness and to continue striving not only for a better family life but also for an improved existence for the whole village.
Under the starlight, we nestled together in quietude, savoring this rare moment of tranquility. I knew our story was just beginning, and that many more beautiful experiences awaited us in the future.
