The originally gentle red light emitted by the sun gradually became blinding. Mo Wen knew it was time for him to set off. He took out some food and had a quick bite before picking up Xiao Hei and climbing down from the tree. The tall and dense canopy blocked the morning sunlight, leaving the forest somewhat dim, but it did not significantly affect visibility. After removing the Symbol Array, he headed in the direction of the cave that had glowed last night.
By afternoon, he was getting closer to Stone Mountain. The surrounding trees began to thin out, and their height gradually decreased. When he was about five miles away from Stone Mountain, there were no more tall trees; instead, there were only fire-resistant trees about four or five meters high. As he approached Stone Mountain, the area was left with only sparse shrubs that were roughly waist-high.
Standing at the foot of Stone Mountain and looking up, it rose about five or six hundred meters high. In this forest, mountains of such height were everywhere. Surrounding the mountain, the trees had already withered, and the body of the mountain still emitted waves of heat. This was a mountain left behind after a lava eruption, and there was surely no Chimera here. However, just to be safe, Mo Wen carefully checked his surroundings to confirm there was no danger before preparing to climb.
Three sides of Stone Mountain were bare rock walls, with only this one side accessible for climbing. Yet looking at the path ahead, Mo Wen found himself in a bit of a dilemma; the massive stones posed a considerable challenge for climbing.
While he was fretting over how to ascend, he noticed that Xiao Hei had already made its way up onto Stone Mountain. The closer they got to Stone Mountain, the more excited Xiao Hei seemed, as if something ahead was drawing its attention. Watching Xiao Hei run up the mountain path made Mo Wen feel somewhat embarrassed as he hurried after it. Occasionally, Xiao Hei would look back as if checking whether Mo Wen was keeping up.
The two of them weaved between the stones, and after overcoming the initial obstacles, the remaining path became much easier. However, as they progressed further, the slope became steeper. Xiao Hei slowed down as they approached a stone wall beneath which they found themselves at about halfway up the mountain. The light they had seen last night emanated from a cave above this stone wall, which stood around twenty-seven or twenty-eight meters high.
Looking at the wall, Mo Wen felt helpless; from a distance, it hadn't seemed so imposing. The entire stone wall was smooth and devoid of any handholds. It appeared that climbing this wall would require considerable effort.
As Mo Wen contemplated how to scale this stone wall, he turned to see that Xiao Hei had already circled around to a nearby side and started jumping up along a pile of rubble, standing on a rock while looking back at Mo Wen with what seemed like disdain in its little eyes. Once again feeling scorned by Xiao Hei, Mo Wen decided not to worry about his pride; exploring the cave was far more important.
After about an incense stick's worth of time, he stood before the cave entrance, feeling the hot air rushing towards him. It was clear that this place was a Melted Cave left behind by volcanic activity. Before he could conduct any further exploration, Xiao Hei had already darted into the cave and vanished into the darkness. Seeing Xiao Hei disappear made Mo Wen hurry to squeeze inside as well; the cave seemed tailor-made for him as he moved sideways without any extra space to turn around.
The Melted Cave's walls were smooth as if polished and slanted downward into the earth. After feeling his way forward for about three hundred meters, Mo Wen sensed that the cave ahead was widening and could feel that Xiao Hei was not far ahead of him. Now he regretted not preparing his Lighting Pearl before entering; everything around him was pitch black. He wanted to retrieve his Lighting Pearl but found himself tightly pressed against stone walls on both sides while it lay in his waist storage space. For now, he could only rely on his senses to move forward cautiously.
