Leaning against the stone wall, one hand groping ahead, Mo Wen could feel the change in the space before him. He let out a sigh of relief; this narrow path had finally come to an end. However, the last stretch was the narrowest part, and as he squeezed through, just as he was about to catch his breath, his foot slipped. He fell into the passage and began to slide downward. The sudden turn of events left Mo Wen flustered; instinctively, he reached out to grab the cave wall. But the wall was not just smooth and hard; his fists struck against it without finding any grip. He felt the slope of the Melted Cave steepening beneath him, and his speed increased.
Taking a deep breath, he forced himself to calm down. He drew out the Butcher Knife and plunged it into the stone wall with all his might. The blade struck and scraped against the wall, sending sparks flying. Gripping the hilt tightly, he pressed down, but his sliding speed continued to accelerate. Below him, a searing light emerged from the cave, and the scene inside began to clarify gradually. The walls were as smooth as mirrors, and the entire cave resembled a long slide. At this moment, he was at the steepest point of the passage, with Xiao Hei not far ahead. Xiao Hei was digging in with all four limbs but making no progress.
The light grew brighter, and the temperature rose sharply. Mo Wen sensed that below lay molten lava; if he and Xiao Hei fell in, they would surely perish. Finally, the tip of the Butcher Knife pierced through the stone wall and continued to penetrate deeper. His sliding speed slowed somewhat, but Xiao Hei's pace did not decrease. In a hurry, Mo Wen took out a rope made from Beast Tendon, tied one end around his waist, and threw the other end toward Xiao Hei. "Bite down!"
...
Pulling the knife from the ground and gazing at the bubbling lava below him, his back was already drenched in cold sweat. Reflecting on what had just happened filled Mo Wen with dread; if it weren't for the Butcher Knife, he and Xiao Hei would have become part of that lava by now. They were standing on a small platform formed by cooled lava above a river of molten rock that flowed through the underground passage like a stream, occasionally bubbling up with bursts that splashed lava everywhere.
At this moment, Mo Wen had no idea how deep underground they were or how far they were from the cave they had entered. It seemed impossible to return along their original path; they would have to find another way out. As for treasure, it paled in comparison to their lives.
Surveying their surroundings revealed an underground cavern shaped by lava erosion. The cave stood about five or six zhang high (approximately 15-18 meters), with smooth stone walls left by lava all around them. The platform they stood on extended along both ends of the cave like a walkway formed by cooled lava, rising about two zhang above the Lava River below. Across from them on the opposite wall was a similar walkway about three feet wide. Between these two walkways lay a canyon carved by lava erosion, approximately three zhang wide, where molten rock flowed toward the distance.
The light emitted by the lava illuminated the entire Melted Cave. Mo Wen was astonished; such a place existed beneath this forest! The traces left by this lava were unlike anything he had seen before. Recalling how smooth the stones on that mountain had been compared to the rough and soft lava he had encountered earlier made him wonder if this lava contained some special components. Picking up fragments pulled out by his Butcher Knife revealed nothing unusual; perhaps he had been overly obsessed with treasures after all.
