A hand rested against a massive rock, blood continuously oozing from it, trickling down the Beast Skin clothing he wore. He had reached his limit; his body was torn with numerous wounds, blood seeping from each gash. The pain of his insides being ripped apart echoed within him, and the blood he coughed up signaled that his organs were gravely injured. After resting against the stone for a moment, he pushed himself to move forward. However, he had barely gone a short distance before collapsing beside another rock. Struggling to rise, he maneuvered himself next to the stone. The distant rumbling continued, and the light from the erupting lava illuminated the night sky, while the tremors beneath him had lessened significantly. Leaning against the rock, he set Xiao Hei down beside him, took out a pill, swallowed it, and closed his eyes to heal. His spiritual energy had been completely drained; his body bore injuries from both rapid running and collisions with obstacles. He needed to recover quickly and press on.
After two hours, feeling much better, he picked up Xiao Hei and continued on his way. The rumbling behind him gradually faded, and birdsong began to fill the air. The ground still trembled occasionally, but it was no longer violent; he must have escaped. The surrounding mist obscured his vision and severely limited his perception. Could it be that his injuries were too severe? This wasn’t the first time he had been hurt like this; although not as badly as now, he had previously sustained injuries yet maintained normal perception afterward. Since there seemed to be no immediate danger, he decided to stop and investigate while recovering.
Perched on a branch of a large tree, he was greeted by an endless expanse of mist. The sunlight was blocked by the fog, making the morning sun appear like a white lantern hanging in the sky. In the distance, he could vaguely see water’s surface; had he left Cloud Mist Forest? However, that seemed unrealistic. Even though he and Xiao Hei had been moving through the underground Melted Cave towards the exit, it was impossible to leave the forest in such a short time. Moreover, looking around confirmed that he was still within the forest. Recalling the map in his mind made his expression darken; the scenery around him matched a certain area in the forest—Cloud Mist Swamp.
"Since I’m here, I might as well accept it," he thought. After confirming that he was indeed in Cloud Mist Swamp, there was nothing to do but accept this outcome calmly. For him now, where he was located was no longer important; recovering quickly to maintain combat readiness was what mattered most.
Choosing a thick branch for support, he settled Xiao Hei comfortably and took out another pill to heal himself. After a day of recovery, he felt revitalized and fully restored. The powerful Demon Beasts and fleeing Chimeras had already vacated the area; self-preservation was an instinct of all living things. Now Cloud Mist Swamp had become relatively safe compared to other parts of the forest. Mo Wen did not rush to leave but sat on a tree to contemplate his situation. With Xiao Hei leading him into Cloud Mist Swamp, it felt like retracing his steps; now he needed to find a safe way out of this swamp.
He spent half a day planning his route before finally preparing to leave when suddenly something felt off. Upon further reflection, he realized that all his planning had been in vain because during his frantic escape, he hadn’t even noted where exactly within Cloud Mist Swamp he was located—and there seemed to be something important that he had overlooked.
