Qin Baonan was momentarily taken aback, his expression softening as he quickly stood up, his demeanor towards Jiang Chen becoming much more amiable, after all, he was his savior.
"Ah, it is Mr. Jiang! I truly apologize for my rudeness. Please, have a seat," Qin Baonan said politely as he approached Jiang Chen.
Jiang Chen remained expressionless, casting a faint glance at Qin Baonan.
"Your granddaughter is now my maid; her fate is in my hands. As for the engagement you arranged with the Yan Family, it is hereby canceled," Jiang Chen stated flatly, yet his words carried an undeniable weight that pressed heavily upon Qin Baonan.
Having heard from his granddaughter about Jiang Chen's formidable strength—how even the Master of Transformation was no match for him—Qin Baonan understood that provoking such a person would be unwise. However, Jiang Chen's domineering attitude in front of him stirred a hint of displeasure within the usually high-ranking Qin Baonan, causing him to subtly furrow his brow.
"The engagement with the old man of the Yan Family cannot simply be canceled at my whim. Moreover, Qin Xiaoya is my granddaughter; I have not agreed to her being your maid, so it does not count," Qin Baonan replied with a smile that held a trace of determination, as if he were subtly challenging Jiang Chen.
For Qin Baonan, while Jiang Chen's elixir had saved him, he did not feel indebted to him since he had paid a hefty sum of one billion for it.
"We do not agree either. Qin Xiaoya is our daughter; we have the right to make decisions for her. She cannot be your maid; she is the young lady of the Qin family," Qin Xiaoya's parents interjected loudly.
"Your disagreement is irrelevant," Jiang Chen replied coolly.
"Mr. Jiang, such words seem rather overbearing, don't you think? We are family to Qin Xiaoya and have the right to oversee her," Qin Baonan's expression darkened gradually; he had not anticipated that Jiang Chen would be so unreasonable.
"Old Qin, do not forget that your life was given to you by me. If I wished to take it back, I could do so at any time. Therefore, you have no right to speak to me like this," Jiang Chen said with a faint smile, his words causing Qin Baonan's complexion to shift dramatically.
"You... you intend to take my life?" Qin Baonan was enraged; his family was a prominent power in the capital and would not tolerate such humiliation from a young man.
"I do not wish to take your life, but I want you to understand that I have the capability to do so. It would be best if you were sensible about this," Jiang Chen stated firmly, locking eyes with Qin Baonan. His calm gaze instilled fear deep within.
"Old Master Qin, please calm down!" Yan Wen unexpectedly stood up to mediate.
Jiang Chen turned his head towards Yan Wen. Although he did not know him personally, he could tell from the situation that he was affiliated with the Yan Family.
"You should have no objections to what I just said, right?" Jiang Chen continued without addressing Yan Wen directly.
"No objections at all, Mr. Jiang," Yan Wen replied with a forced smile.
What was happening? The Qin Family suddenly found themselves bewildered by Yan Wen's attitude.
"It seems your ancestor Yan Lianwei has mentioned me in your presence!" Jiang Chen remarked with satisfaction. Resolving issues without resorting to violence was ideal. However, this was also expected; after returning from Songnan, it was impossible for Yan Lianwei not to mention him to his family.
Yan Wen had only changed his attitude painfully because he had heard Qin Xiaoya introduce this young man as Jiang Chen.
"Cousin Yan Wen, since you agree with Mr. Jiang’s decision to annul the engagement, I have no objections either. However, the engagement was originally arranged between me and your ancestor. Shouldn't you consult your ancestor’s opinion on this matter?" Seeing this development shocked and delighted Qin Baonan simultaneously; his greatest concern had been potential backlash from the Yan Family.
