By coincidence, Liu Ying and Jiang Lu are from the same place, hailing from Liu Fei City. Liu Ying initially worked in his hometown, but he left Liu Fei City last year to move to Shenzhen, where he has now been for a year.
Gao Kang is an academic achiever who got into graduate school and is currently studying at Yue Province University of Science and Technology. He is an introverted person, seemingly uninterested in anything other than his studies, though he is quite nice.
Among the two, Liu Ying is still single, while Gao Kang has a girlfriend whom he started dating just a month ago. After some lively exchanges, Wang Shun Yuan took out his phone to check the time and said, “Let’s go; the four of us should get together and have some drinks.”
“Make sure to invite your sister-in-law,” Liu Ying joked.
“She’s already waiting at the restaurant, along with her college roommate and best friend. Liu Ying, Jiang Chen, you two are still single, right? You better make a good impression later,” Wang Shun Yuan said.
“I’ll have to put in some effort,” Liu Ying replied.
“I don’t need to!” Jiang Chen chimed in.
“Jiang Chen, do you have a girlfriend?” Wang Shun Yuan and Gao Kang looked at Jiang Chen and pressed him for an answer.
“Not really,” Jiang Chen replied honestly, his face calm and unflustered.
“No girlfriend? Then you can scout around later; my girlfriend's friends are all pretty good options,” Wang Shun Yuan suggested.
Jiang Chen smiled but didn’t say much more.
“By the way, boss, why don’t you tell us how you met your sister-in-law?” Liu Ying changed the subject.
“Sure, I’ll share,” Wang Shun Yuan said with a smile as they walked along.
Wang Shun Yuan’s girlfriend is named Huang Lin. She is from Beijing but from the rural outskirts of Fangshan. Don’t assume that all Beijingers are wealthy; those houses beyond the Fifth Ring Road that haven’t been redeveloped are far from luxurious.
Huang Lin graduated from Beijing Language University and works as a Russian translator at a translation agency. Since graduating, Wang Shun Yuan has been working at a design company in Beijing, thriving under the praise of his department manager. When his company took on a design project from Russia that required translation services, they found Huang Lin. Sometimes fate brings people together; Wang Shun Yuan and Huang Lin got to know each other and eventually developed feelings for one another after going through some experiences together.
“I didn’t expect your sister-in-law to be from Beijing! That means all her friends are probably from there too. That’s intimidating; I shouldn’t even think about it. People from Beijing have high standards; they definitely wouldn’t look at someone like me who comes from a rural background,” Liu Ying said, suddenly feeling self-deprecating.
“Liu Ying, when you truly like someone, you’ll understand what it means to be fearless. I’m also from the countryside. To tell you the truth, Huang Lin's parents didn’t approve of her marrying me at first. I was ready to give up, but guess how Huang Lin convinced them?” Wang Shun Yuan shared.
“What did she do? Did she get pregnant?” Liu Ying asked.
“Liu Ying, how did you guess? That’s exactly what happened,” Wang Shun Yuan laughed.
“Wow! I’ve never seen a swan before; I only know what they look like from TV dramas. But that sounds a bit forced; it might cause some trouble after marriage. Boss, you better be careful,” Liu Ying teased.
“It’s fine; I’ve thought it through. Once I buy a house in the Third Ring Road of Beijing in the future, they won’t have anything to say about it anymore,” Wang Shun Yuan replied confidently, filled with youthful ambition for the future.
