The two continued to practice by the lake, exchanging insights on their control abilities. As the sun began to set, they packed up and headed back to the dormitory.
On the way, Ao Bing glanced at his watch. "It's six o'clock. Let's have dinner first, then take turns resting to conserve our energy. I'll take the first half of the night, and you can take the second half. How does that sound?"
"Sounds good," Nezha agreed. "But are you sure you can spot the thief? If he really knows how to use illusions, he might confuse our senses."
Ao Bing pulled a small vial from his pocket, containing a clear liquid. "This is a special potion I made, with some... unique ingredients. It will help us resist the effects of illusions."
"Wow," Nezha's eyes lit up. "You can brew potions too? You're really talented!"
Ao Bing smiled faintly, not confirming or denying it. "It's a family skill. It will come in handy when it matters most."
By nine o'clock, the dormitory was gradually quieting down. Nezha and Ao Bing sat on their beds, waiting in silence. Ao Bing poured each of them a small cup of the special potion, and Nezha drank his in one gulp, feeling a refreshing sensation wash over him.
"You can sleep now," Ao Bing said. "I'll wake you up at one o'clock for your shift."
Nezha nodded, lay down, and closed his eyes, quickly drifting off to sleep. Ao Bing turned off the main light, leaving only a small desk lamp on, then sat at his desk and began to wait quietly.
Time passed slowly; the dormitory grew increasingly silent, interrupted only by occasional footsteps and doors closing. Ao Bing's gaze occasionally swept toward the window and door as he remained highly alert.
At midnight, Ao Bing suddenly sensed a strange wave of energy, as if something invisible was wandering within the dormitory. He immediately stood up and quietly approached the door, peering through the peephole.
The hallway was empty; there was no one in sight, but Ao Bing could clearly feel that energy drawing closer. He quickly returned to his bed and gently shook Nezha awake.
"What’s wrong?" Nezha asked groggily. "Is it my turn to keep watch?"
"There’s movement," Ao Bing replied briefly, his voice low. "I sense a surge of energy approaching; it could be the person we’re looking for."
Nezha immediately snapped awake, rolling over to sit up. "Where?"
"In the hallway," Ao Bing pointed towards the door. "I can’t see anyone yet, but the energy is unmistakable. We need to be cautious."
The two quickly devised a plan, deciding to pretend to be sound asleep to lure the intruder in. They turned off the bedside lamp and lay back down, keeping their eyes wide open and ready for action.
Before long, faint footsteps echoed from outside, followed by the sound of a key turning in the lock. Nezha and Ao Bing exchanged a glance, holding their breath.
The door creaked open, and a shadowy figure slipped inside silently. Thanks to the effects of Ao Bing's special water, they could see through the illusion clearly; it was a small-framed boy wearing a black hat and mask, sneaking around cautiously.
The stranger tiptoed over to Ao Bing's desk and began rummaging through things. Nezha and Ao Bing locked eyes, silently counting to three before springing into action.
"Get him!" Nezha shouted as he leaped up, lunging at the intruder. Ao Bing swiftly moved to block the doorway, cutting off any escape route.
The stranger was clearly startled, turning around in panic to flee, but it was too late. Nezha grabbed his arm and pinned him to the ground.
"Don’t move!" Nezha warned. "We’ve been watching you for a long time!"
