As the first light of dawn broke, the campus loudspeakers suddenly blared an inspiring athlete's march, shattering the morning tranquility. Nezha was jolted awake by the unexpected sound, rubbing his sleepy eyes and noticing that Ao Bing was already up, standing by the window gazing outside.
"What’s going on? Why is there music so early?" Nezha asked, his voice thick with sleep.
Ao Bing turned around with a slight smile. "The school sports meet starts next week, and today marks the countdown."
"The sports meet?" Nezha perked up instantly. "That’s great! I love the sports meet!"
He nimbly jumped out of bed and rushed to the window in a few quick strides, joining Ao Bing to look outside. The campus was already bustling with preparations—banners and slogans were being hung, and staff were busy organizing the field.
"I need to sign up!" Nezha exclaimed excitedly. "Football match, sprinting, long jump—I want to participate in all of them!"
Ao Bing raised an eyebrow. "Don’t be too ambitious; the events might overlap in timing."
"Then I’ll just join the football match!" Nezha declared without hesitation. "Football is my strong suit!"
Ao Bing nodded, not arguing. He had indeed seen Nezha play football; even when just juggling the ball in their dorm, it was clear that his skills were exceptional.
"What about you?" Nezha suddenly asked. "What event will you participate in?"
After a moment's thought, Ao Bing replied, "I might join the swimming competition."
"Swimming?" Nezha's eyes lit up. "That makes sense; you can control water, so you must be great at swimming." He lowered his voice to ensure only Ao Bing could hear his comment about his superpower.
Ao Bing gently shook his head. "It's not about ability; it's because I've received professional swimming training since I was young."
"Oh..." Nezha felt a bit disappointed but quickly perked up again. "But you must swim really well! I'll definitely cheer for you when the time comes!"
Ao Bing smiled slightly and nodded. "Likewise."
This simple response warmed Nezha's heart. Ever since that night when he realized his feelings for Ao Bing, he had been observing Ao Bing's attitude towards him. Although Ao Bing still maintained his usual calm and restraint, Nezha could sense that their relationship was indeed changing, becoming closer and more comfortable.
After a quick wash-up, the two headed to the school cafeteria for breakfast. On the way, Nezha excitedly recounted his experiences from middle school when he participated in a soccer match, his eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. Ao Bing listened quietly, occasionally nodding or asking questions, a faint smile on his face.
"In middle school, I scored three goals in a row and led the team to a comeback victory!" Nezha exclaimed, waving his arms as he vividly described the scene. "You should have seen the expression on the opposing goalkeeper's face; it was like he had seen a ghost!"
"Sounds thrilling," Ao Bing remarked. "I look forward to seeing your performance at the sports meet."
Nezha grinned widely, feeling an overwhelming sense of confidence and joy. Ao Bing's anticipation meant more to him than anything else.
After breakfast, they arrived at the student activity center to sign up for events in the sports meet. A crowd of students had already gathered in front of the bulletin board, eagerly checking the rules and registration methods for various competitions.
Nezha couldn't wait to squeeze into the crowd to find the registration form for soccer. Once he found it, he wasted no time and boldly wrote down his name and contact information.
"Awesome!" Nezha said with satisfaction as he looked at his name. "Finally, I can show off my skills!"
