After returning to school from home, Nezha felt as if he had been infused with new energy. He began to seriously plan for his future, using his spare time to participate in various soccer training and coaching courses, while also striving to improve his academic performance, fulfilling the promise he made to his father. His life was fulfilling and busy, yet it always lacked one important presence—Ao Bing.
The Crystal Pendant had remained silent since that brief moment of anomaly that night. Every evening, Nezha would talk to it, sharing his daily experiences and feelings as if Ao Bing could hear him. This had become his habit and a way to cope with his longing.
As time passed day by day, autumn arrived in full swing. The maple leaves on campus turned the sky a vibrant red, adding a touch of life to the previously quiet atmosphere.
That afternoon, after finishing soccer practice, Nezha returned to the dormitory, dragging his weary body behind him. The moment he opened the door, he froze—there was someone in the room! A Blue-Haired Boy was standing with his back to the door, organizing items on the desk.
“Ao Bing?” Nezha could hardly believe his eyes, his voice trembling slightly with excitement.
The boy turned at the sound of his name, and indeed it was Ao Bing! He still had that handsome face, but there was a hint of fatigue and complexity in his eyes. He wore a simple white shirt and dark pants, looking more mature and composed than before he left.
“Nezha,” Ao Bing said softly, a faint smile appearing on his lips. “I’m back.”
Nezha stood there in a daze, unsure how to react. He had imagined countless scenarios of Ao Bing's return—he would rush over to embrace him, excitedly recount everything that had happened during their time apart, ask about the Dragon Palace... But now, facing the real Ao Bing, he felt an indescribable sense of strangeness and distance.
“When... did you come back?” Nezha finally asked, trying to keep his voice calm.
“About an hour ago,” Ao Bing replied, a hint of caution in his gaze. “I just finished unpacking.”
“Oh...” Nezha nodded, unsure of what else to say. The atmosphere became awkward as both fell silent, neither willing to break the ice first.
Finally, Ao Bing spoke up to shatter the silence: “How have you been lately?”
This simple question seemed to open the floodgates, and Nezha suddenly regained his composure, excitedly recounting everything that had happened during this time to Ao Bing—his reconciliation with his father, the pursuit of his dream of becoming a Football Coach, his academic progress, and the training and matches with the Magic City University Soccer Team.
Ao Bing listened intently, occasionally nodding or smiling, but Nezha could sense that his mind was not entirely present. His gaze would drift at times, then sharpen, as if he were contemplating something important.
"Ao Bing," Nezha paused and looked directly into Ao Bing's eyes. "Are you okay? You seem troubled."
Ao Bing was momentarily taken aback, then let out a soft sigh. "There are indeed some things... I need to tell you."
Nezha's heart sank; he had a feeling that what he was about to hear would not be good news.
"I’m only back for a short stay," Ao Bing said slowly, his voice calm yet resolute. "In a week, I must return to the Dragon Palace to complete the final Inheritance Ceremony. After that... I may have to stay there for an extended period to manage the family business."
Although he had anticipated this news, hearing it still caused a pang of pain in Nezha's heart. He forced a smile and asked, "What about your studies?"
"I will apply for a leave of absence," Ao Bing explained. "Once things stabilize, I will decide whether to continue my studies. But given the current situation with the Dragon Tribe... that possibility seems slim."
