Nezha fell silent, Shen Gongbao's words touching something deep within him. Indeed, Ao Bing was working hard for the future of the Dragon Tribe, and he should not be lost in thoughts of longing and worry; instead, he should strive for his own dreams. That way, when they met again, they could greet each other as better versions of themselves.
"Thank you for your advice, Professor Shen," Nezha said sincerely. "I will do my best."
Shen Gongbao nodded in satisfaction, stood up, and left the library, leaving Nezha alone to ponder their conversation.
Back in his dormitory, Nezha took out the book "Legend of Sea and Fire" that Ao Bing had left behind and began to read it intently. The story told of a sea spirit and a fire spirit who fell in love; despite their opposing natures, they transcended natural boundaries through their sincerity and perseverance, creating a miracle.
As he finished the story, a strong emotion surged within Nezha. Wasn't this a reflection of his relationship with Ao Bing? One from water and the other from fire, they should have repelled each other but met and understood one another due to fate, ultimately falling in love.
"Ao Bing," Nezha spoke to the empty room, "I will work hard to become a better person, someone worthy of your love. No matter how long I wait or what difficulties I face, I will not give up on our feelings."
The Crystal Pendant around his neck warmed slightly, as if responding to his words. Nezha held the crystal tightly, feeling its warmth as if Ao Bing were right beside him, giving him strength and courage.
However, fate seemed to play another trick on him. The next evening, just as Nezha returned to the dorm after training, he found an unexpected visitor standing at the door—Lin Yuqing.
"Lin Yuqing?" Nezha asked in surprise. "What are you doing here?"
Lin Yuqing looked somewhat nervous, holding a stack of sheet music. "I... I came to find Ao Bing. The Music Department has a performance next week, and we wanted to invite him to participate. But it seems he’s not here?"
Nezha's heart sank. He didn't want to explain Ao Bing's absence to anyone but couldn't lie either. "Ao Bing... has gone home and might be away for a long time."
Lin Yuqing clearly looked disappointed. "Oh... that's too bad. His piano playing is really good; we were all looking forward to collaborating with him." She paused for a moment, hesitating before asking, "Did he leave any contact information? Maybe I could send him the invitation for when he returns..."
"No," Nezha quickly interrupted her, his tone harsher than he had anticipated. "He went to a place... very far away, without any communication devices."
Lin Yuqing was taken aback by Nezha's attitude but quickly regained her composure. "I understand. Then... if he comes back, please tell him that we miss him very much and hope to work together again."
Nezha nodded, suppressing the sorrow within him. "I will."
After watching Lin Yuqing leave, Nezha closed the door and leaned against the wall, feeling an unprecedented sense of loneliness. After Ao Bing left, it wasn't just him who missed him; many others did too—Lin Yuqing, classmates from the Music Department, friends from the literary club... They were all waiting for Ao Bing's return. But unlike them, Nezha knew that Ao Bing might never come back. This secret weighed heavily on his heart like a stone, making it hard for him to breathe.
That night, Nezha dreamed of Ao Bing sitting on the throne of the Dragon Palace, dressed in a magnificent Dragon Robe and wearing a Golden Crown, regal yet distant. When Nezha tried to approach him, Ao Bing coldly said, "We are from different worlds and are destined to be apart. Go back, forget me, and live your own life."
Nezha woke up from the nightmare in a cold sweat. He knew it was just a nightmare, not the real Ao Bing. The real Ao Bing was gentle and caring; even if he had to return to the Dragon Palace for his responsibilities, he would never easily give up on their feelings for each other.
