“Lin Lin, your aunt has something to say that might not be appropriate. You are a proper young lady from the capital, yet you’re getting married without even having a home. This is quite shabby, and we feel it’s unfair for you. At the very least, you should wait until you have a house before tying the knot,” one of Huang Lin's relatives insisted.
The group of relatives surrounding Huang Lin continued to chatter incessantly. Although they were all talking about her, it was clear they looked down on Wang Shun Yuan, believing that Huang Lin marrying him brought shame to their family.
Wang Shun Yuan felt utterly embarrassed, wishing he could just disappear into a hole in the ground.
Liu Ying and the others were caught off guard by this scene. While they felt that Huang Lin's relatives were being unreasonable, as outsiders, they didn’t feel it was their place to intervene.
“Is it that if Shun Yuan had a wedding house, you would have no objections?” Suddenly, a voice broke through the noise. Everyone turned to see it was one of Wang Shun Yuan's friends, but no one paid much attention.
One relative replied, “We just don’t want Lin Lin to suffer any grievances. Although she says she doesn’t want anything, there are certain things that should be in place. Which girl from the Huang family gets married without a wedding house?”
“Of course, saying we need a wedding house now is asking too much. But treating a hotel room as a wedding house is too casual. I think renting a two-bedroom apartment for a wedding house would be better; at least outsiders wouldn’t gossip,” another relative chimed in.
While Huang Lin's relatives were being hurtful with their words, they spoke some truth. In today’s world, having a car and a house was essential for marriage. Wang Shun Yuan had neither but still intended to marry Huang Lin, which naturally left her family feeling displeased.
“That’s easy to arrange. I happen to know someone in the capital who has a nice apartment suitable for a wedding house; let’s use that,” Jiang Chen said.
Jiang Chen had already arranged for Qin Xiaoya to prepare an apartment for Wang Shun Yuan within the third ring road of the capital. Originally, he planned to gift it to Wang Shun Yuan after the wedding as a way of repaying him for his past kindness. However, seeing Huang Lin's relatives now forced Jiang Chen to change his plans and bring the wedding house into play sooner than expected. He didn’t want to draw too much attention by publicly stating he would give the apartment to Wang Shun Yuan; after all, these people probably wouldn’t believe him anyway. After tomorrow’s ceremony, he would have Qin Xiaoya coordinate with Wang Shun Yuan to handle the transfer paperwork for the apartment.
Upon hearing Jiang Chen's words, Huang Lin's relatives immediately furrowed their brows.
“What ring road is the apartment in?”
“Is the neighborhood nice? Where is it located?”
“Is it fully furnished or just basic?”
Jiang Chen had underestimated the tenacity of Huang Lin's relatives as they bombarded him with questions.
“The apartment is within the third ring road; the neighborhood should be decent. If you’d like, we can go take a look. Plus, my friend mentioned she would lend us her car as a wedding vehicle since she heard about the marriage,” Jiang Chen added.
He truly wanted to keep things low-key but had come here to support his childhood friend; sometimes he needed to put on a show.
Since even Carole was invited to liven up the big day, what was a little wedding car compared to that?
“Actually, there’s no need for that. I think using a hotel room as our wedding house isn’t bad at all. Thank you for your kindness, Jiang Chen,” Huang Lin smiled.
“You may think it’s fine, but everyone else doesn’t feel that way. Anyway, my friend’s apartment and car are available; you can check them out. If you don’t like them, you can always return to the hotel,” Jiang Chen insisted. His fondness for Huang Lin grew; it was truly a blessing for his friend to marry such an understanding woman.
