"Do you really have friends in the capital? I never expected that someone who can afford a house and a car in the Third Ring Road would have such connections. But then again, not all houses in the Third Ring are great; some old ones are quite run-down. Your friend's place isn't in an old neighborhood, is it?" Chen Renjing said, her gaze scrutinizing Jiang Chen with a hint of sarcasm.
"Whether it's an old neighborhood or not, we can just go see for ourselves," Jiang Chen replied with a smile.
"Forget it. You get what you pay for; your friend is probably just average, and the house must be nothing special. Lin Lin, if you really need a wedding house, why not use mine? My room is quite nice," Chen Renjing suggested.
"No way! That’s ridiculous! Your parents wouldn’t agree, and neither would I," Huang Lin's mother quickly rejected the idea.
Huang Lin's family and Chen Renjing's family were from the same village. If Chen Renjing's parents found out that the Huang family's daughter was getting married and borrowing their house for it, it would be a laughingstock.
"Come on, big brother, since Jiang Chen is being so kind, just agree. He won’t let you down; I guarantee there will be surprises," Liu Ying chimed in. Wang Shun Yuan was the oldest in their university dormitory, and Liu Ying and the others called him big brother. Liu Ying had a feeling that Jiang Chen was impressive; friends in the capital couldn’t be too shabby.
"How about we go take a look?" Jiang Chen suggested. After all, he was trying to help himself out of this situation. Wang Shun Yuan knew that using a hotel room as a wedding house would likely earn him endless nagging from Huang Lin's relatives. Since Jiang Chen had offered a solution, he felt he should accept it but still needed to check with Huang Lin.
"Well... okay then." Huang Lin hesitated for a moment. To silence her numerous relatives, she had no choice but to agree with Jiang Chen's proposal.
"But I need to clarify something first: Aunt, dear aunties, and all elders present, I know you care about me, but my feelings for Shun Yuan cannot be measured by money. Whether or not he has a house, I want to be with him. If you don’t want us to use a hotel room for our wedding, then since Shun Yuan’s roommate is willing to lend us a place as our wedding house, please don’t complain about it later regardless of how it looks," Huang Lin continued. She felt it necessary to set expectations beforehand to avoid any complaints from her relatives if they found the house lacking.
To be honest, Huang Lin didn’t have much confidence in Jiang Chen’s friend's place; after all, she had heard from Wang Shun Yuan that his friend came from an ordinary background.
What kind of people one associates with reflects their circle; it was hard to believe that someone like Jiang Chen could have friends who owned property in the Third Ring Road.
"That won’t do! If the wedding house isn’t up to par, we can’t agree," Huang Lin’s relatives insisted.
Huang Lin’s marriage was not just about her own reputation but also about maintaining the dignity of their entire family.
"Don’t worry! The place my friend arranged will definitely meet your expectations," Jiang Chen confidently assured them.
"You sure your friend is reliable?" Huang Lin's mother asked cautiously as she scrutinized Jiang Chen.
"Absolutely reliable," Jiang Chen replied with a slight smile.
"Then let’s go take a look! If it’s suitable, we’ll need to decorate the wedding house too. You young people might have to work hard later," Huang Lin's mother said.
