I don't know how long I was unconscious. When I woke up, the blinding white light made me squint. As my consciousness gradually returned, I realized I was lying on a hospital bed, surrounded by cold white walls.
I tried to move, but my body wouldn't respond at all.
"Ah, our 'guest' has finally awakened," a hoarse voice came from nearby. I managed to turn my head slightly and saw a man in his fifties standing by the bed, arms crossed, looking at me with an air of leisure.
"What... what have you done to me?" I struggled to speak, my throat dry as if it had been scorched by fire.

My heart sank. They already knew my true identity.

I felt a wave of dizziness wash over me, unable to believe what I was hearing. "You... you can't do this!"
"It has already been done," the man said coldly. "Now, you have two choices. Either cooperate with us and cease your investigation while providing updates from your police friend; or... we will expose your new personality and let everyone in Gangcheng know that there is an Abnormal Killer lurking within you. Do you think you can continue being an investigative journalist after that? How will you and your family live under the suspicion and disdain of others?"
He paused, seemingly enjoying my reaction.
"The effects of the anesthesia will wear off completely in an hour, after which you can leave freely. I'm sure someone as intelligent as Miss Li can make a wise choice." With that, he turned and left the room.
Lying on the bed, I felt as if I had fallen into an endless abyss—a profound sense of despair and helplessness enveloped me. My career, my life… everything about me crumbled in that moment. Am I still myself?
Time shifted back to the present.
I stood in the cold wind, feeling lost and disoriented. Not wanting to face my family and friends across from me, I returned to my apartment.
The investigation at my apartment had concluded; I tore down the police tape at the entrance and quickly locked the door behind me.
I grabbed a beer from the fridge and gulped it down greedily. Turning around, I caught sight of myself in the mirror—clutching a beer can with a face full of despair—and suddenly a surge of anger welled up inside me. I smashed my fist against the mirror, tears streaming uncontrollably down my face.

The phone kept ringing, so I turned it off, cutting off all contact with the outside world.
The night was deep, and I was incredibly tired, yet I dared not close my eyes. I feared that if I fell asleep, the persona of the Abnormal Killer would take over my body.
I curled up in bed, letting the darkness gradually engulf me.
I didn’t know how long I had been dozing when a sudden, urgent knocking at the door jolted me awake. I struggled to open my eyes, my head pounding painfully. The room was a mess, empty beer cans scattered everywhere.
“Li Li! Li Li! Are you there?” came Ji Tianming's anxious voice from outside the door.
I hesitated for a moment, but my vulnerability made me crave warmth, and in the end, I went to open the door.
