The teammates laughed and left, leaving Nezha alone. He sighed and continued to wander aimlessly, glancing at his watch from time to time—midnight was still far off, and the long wait made him a bit restless.
Time ticked away, and the main stage of the party was filled with continuous performances, from song and dance to interactive games, creating an increasingly lively atmosphere. Nezha participated in a few activities half-heartedly, but his thoughts kept drifting elsewhere.
"Hey there, would you like to challenge the automatic piano piece?" a staff member cheerfully called out. "If you play three songs correctly, you can win a mysterious prize!"
Nezha initially wanted to refuse, but upon hearing the word "piano," he was reminded of Ao Bing's nimble fingers dancing across the keys. Almost involuntarily, he nodded.
"Great! Let's get started!" The staff member guided him to sit at the piano. "The system will randomly play a piece, and you need to replicate it. It's simple, don't be nervous."
Sitting in front of the piano, Nezha felt lost. To be honest, he knew nothing about playing the piano and couldn't even tell which key corresponded to which note.
The first song began—a cheerful children's tune that was as simple as could be. Yet for Nezha, it felt like reading a foreign language. He clumsily pressed the keys, producing a series of discordant sounds that drew laughter from the surrounding audience.
"Ah, it seems this student is new to the piano," the staff member kindly tried to smooth things over. "How about we switch to a simpler game?"
Just as Nezha was awkwardly preparing to get up, the second song unexpectedly started playing—a familiar melody flowed gently, clear as spring water but tinged with a hint of sadness—it was "Rain's Mark," Ao Bing's signature piece.
Nezha froze; he had heard this song countless times, every note etched deeply in his memory. In a daze, he seemed to see Ao Bing sitting there, his long fingers caressing the keys, producing heavenly sounds.
A strange feeling surged within him. Almost instinctively, Nezha placed his hands on the keys, closed his eyes, and recalled where Ao Bing's fingers had been while playing. Then he began to play.
The first note was awkward but accurate. The second and third... gradually, the melody came together; though his technique was rough, each note fell perfectly into place. The crowd around him first expressed surprise and then fell silent, captivated by this extraordinary performance.
Nezha was completely immersed in memories; he didn't notice the astonished gazes around him or hear the murmurs of admiration. His heart soared far away, flying beside that Blue-Haired Boy.
As the final note faded away, Nezha opened his eyes as if awakening from a dream.
The audience erupted into enthusiastic applause while the staff member looked on in disbelief. "Wow! Didn't you just say you couldn't play the piano? This is incredible—"
"I really can't," Nezha said blankly as he looked at his hands. "I just... thought of someone."
The staff member smiled ambiguously. "That person must be very important to you if you can remember a piece so clearly."
Nezha didn’t respond; he simply stood up quietly and left the piano area with a sense of desolation. He didn’t understand what had just happened, but the emptiness inside him felt even stronger.
As night deepened and the party reached its climax, Campus Central Square buzzed with people eagerly anticipating the countdown to midnight and the dazzling fireworks display. Nezha found a relatively quiet corner by a large tree and gazed blankly at the starry sky.
"Half an hour left," Nezha muttered to himself as he checked his watch. "If Ao Bing really is coming, he should have arrived by now..."
