Nezha let out a sigh of relief, but his inner vigilance did not wane in the slightest. Shen Gongbao's retreat had been too easy, which was not in line with his usual character. There must be some conspiracy behind it.
Upon returning to his dormitory, Nezha found Aunt Taiyi waiting for him at the door, her face etched with anxiety.
"Nezha, I've been looking for you!" Aunt Taiyi exclaimed urgently upon seeing him. "I sensed Shen Gongbao's presence on campus. Has he approached you?"
Nezha nodded and recounted Shen Gongbao's visit, their conversation, and his own discoveries in the library to Aunt Taiyi. After listening, her expression grew extremely grave.
"Just as I suspected," she said solemnly. "Shen Gongbao's true intentions have finally come to light. He doesn't want to help you control the Demon Sphere Power; he wants to use your strength to resurrect the leader of the Li Yang Sect, Lady Shiji."
" Lady Shiji?" Nezha asked in confusion. "Is she the one said to have the ability to counter flames?"
Aunt Taiyi nodded. "She was once the most powerful being of the Li Yang Sect but was sealed away during a great battle with the Dragon Tribe a thousand years ago. Legend has it that her primordial spirit is hidden in a special container that requires the Demon Sphere Power to awaken. Shen Gongbao has been searching for this container, and it seems he has found it."
Nezha's heart sank. "So the Fire Spirit Pill he gave me..."
"Was meant to control your consciousness and turn you into his puppet," Aunt Taiyi said with a serious expression. "Once you take the pill, he can guide your Demon Sphere Power through specific incantations to awaken Lady Shiji."
"What should we do?" Nezha asked. "Should we just refuse him?"
Aunt Taiyi pondered for a moment, a glimmer of insight flashing in her eyes. "No, this is a good opportunity to expose Shen Gongbao's true face. You should meet him tonight as planned; I will protect you from the shadows. We need him to reveal his plans on his own."
Nezha nodded, feeling anxious yet knowing this might be the only way to uncover Shen Gongbao's true intentions.
"There's one more thing," Aunt Taiyi said as she took out a jade pendant from her pocket. "Wear this. It will protect your spirit from external interference; even if Shen Gongbao uses the Mind Control Technique, you'll be able to remain clear-headed."
Nezha took the pendant and felt a cool energy flow into his body, instantly invigorating him.
At ten o'clock that night, beneath the Old Willow Tree on the back mountain, moonlight bathed the entire forest in a silvery veil. Nezha arrived as scheduled and found Shen Gongbao already waiting there, a small altar set up beside him with several red candles burning, emitting a peculiar fragrance.
"You're right on time; very good," Shen Gongbao greeted him with a smile. "Are you ready to begin your new journey?"
Nezha scanned his surroundings warily but did not see Aunt Taiyi's figure; however, he trusted that she was watching over him from the shadows.
"I'm ready," Nezha said, feigning calmness. "What exactly do we need to do?"
Shen Gongbao pointed to a cushion in the center of the altar. "First, sit down so we can begin our meditation practice. The full moon tonight will enhance the flow of your Demon Sphere Power; it's an excellent time for cultivation."
Nezha complied and sat cross-legged, pretending to relax while staying fully alert, observing Shen Gongbao's every move.
Shen Gongbao began lighting special incense around the altar, filling the air with a hypnotic aura. Then he stood before Nezha, forming hand seals and began chanting ancient incantations.
