Strangely, despite wearing the jade pendant given to him by Aunt Taiyi, Nezha felt waves of dizziness wash over him, and his thoughts became sluggish. Clearly, Shen Gongbao's sorcery was far more powerful than he had imagined.
"How do you feel?" Shen Gongbao's voice seemed to come from a great distance. "Do you sense the energy within you starting to flow?"
Nezha struggled to stay alert and nodded. He had to pretend to be under control, hoping to coax Shen Gongbao into revealing more information.
"Very good," Shen Gongbao said with satisfaction. "Now, I need you to take this."
He produced a pill from his robes, the same Fire Spirit Pill he had given Nezha earlier. Nezha feigned confusion as he reached out to take the pill.
"Wait," Nezha forced himself to ask, "didn't you say we could start training without taking the pill...?"
Shen Gongbao's expression grew impatient. "Plans have changed. The ritual has begun and must proceed as planned. Take it quickly!"
Nezha brought the pill to his lips but did not actually swallow it; instead, he hid it inside his mouth. He pretended to swallow and then closed his eyes, waiting for Shen Gongbao's next instructions.
"Excellent," Shen Gongbao's voice was laced with barely contained excitement. "Now, I need you to guide the Demon Sphere Power within you and concentrate it in your hands."
Nezha cracked his eyes open slightly and saw Shen Gongbao retrieving an ancient jade box from the altar. When the box opened, it revealed a crystal sphere shimmering with purple light, something writhing inside it.
"The essence of Lady Shiji..." Nezha's heart sank; Aunt Taiyi's suspicions were correct.
"Focus," Shen Gongbao urged. "Guide the Demon Sphere Power into this crystal sphere."
Nezha obediently closed his eyes again, cradling the crystal sphere in his hands but not truly channeling any energy. He was waiting for Shen Gongbao to divulge more or for Aunt Taiyi to appear.
"Hurry!" Shen Gongbao began to grow anxious. "The power of the full moon is about to peak; this is the best time to awaken the great Lady Shiji!"
"What is the purpose of awakening her?" Nezha feigned confusion.
Shen Gongbao seemed to believe Nezha was completely under control and answered without restraint: " Lady Shiji possesses the power to overturn heaven and earth. Once she is resurrected, the Li Yang Sect will rise again, replacing the Dragon Tribe as rulers of the ocean. And you, as the holder of the Demon Orb, will become her most powerful ally and invaluable source of energy."
"Source of energy?" Nezha continued probing, "What do you mean?"
Shen Gongbao explained fervently: " Lady Shiji requires a continuous supply of energy to maintain her resurrected state. The Demon Sphere Power is the ideal source of energy. Through special sorcery, I can establish an energy channel between you and her, allowing you to provide her with power endlessly."
Nezha's heart sank—Shen Gongbao intended not only to use him to awaken Lady Shiji but also to turn him into a permanent "energy battery." Once that connection was established, he would never be able to break free until his life force was drained.
"I see," Nezha said coldly as he opened his eyes. "So your so-called 'help' is just turning me into your slave?"
Shen Gongbao froze for a moment before his expression changed dramatically. "You... you're not under control?!"
"Of course not," Nezha stood up, energy surging within him as flames began to flicker in his hands. "I've been pretending all along just to expose your true nature."
"Impossible!" Shen Gongbao shook his head in disbelief. "The Fire Spirit Pill's effects cannot be resisted! Unless..." His gaze fell on the jade pendant hanging from Nezha's neck. "Taiyi Zhenren! She gave you a protective talisman!"
Nezha let out a cold laugh. "It seems you finally understand. Shen Gongbao, your scheme ends here."
