"It's not hard at all. Auntie, Uncle, let's set off now. By the way, Jiang Chen, what’s the name of that community? We can just take a taxi there," Liu Ying said, feeling quite displeased with Huang Lin's relatives. He hoped that Jiang Chen would make a strong impression on them.
"I didn't ask. Let me call and find out," Jiang Chen replied.
Hearing Jiang Chen's words, the group exchanged glances, clearly skeptical. Huang Lin's relatives shook their heads, feeling that this was becoming increasingly unreliable.
"This guy isn't going to waste our time, is he?"
"Looking at him, it feels like he's just messing around."
The group murmured among themselves, uncertain and not trusting Jiang Chen, especially not his friend from Beijing.
Jiang Chen ignored their strange looks and dialed Qin Xiaoya's number. The room was quiet; only Jiang Chen and Qin Xiaoya were talking. It was so quiet that they could vaguely hear Qin Xiaoya's voice.
To Jiang Chen's surprise, his friend turned out to be a woman, which even surprised Wang Shun Yuan.
Qin Xiaoya initially wanted to arrange for a car to pick them up, but Jiang Chen declined. With so many people—at least seven or eight cars were needed—it was unnecessary; they could just take a taxi.
After hanging up, Jiang Chen said, "The house is in Immortal Lotus Garden."
"Immortal Lotus Garden?" Jiang Chen's casual remark startled everyone else, including the groom Wang Shun Yuan.
"Jiang Chen, are you sure you heard correctly? Immortal Lotus Garden is one of the most expensive communities in Beijing, close to the second ring road and a school district. The average price per square meter is over a hundred thousand yuan," Wang Shun Yuan exclaimed in shock. He had been in Beijing for over a year and although he couldn't afford a house, he had kept himself informed about real estate; he certainly knew about Immortal Lotus Garden.
Although Wang Shun Yuan didn’t know how Jiang Chen had been living these past years, if he had such an impressive friend in Beijing, he should have heard about it from Jiang Chen before.
"Whether it's right or wrong will be clear once we get there. Let's go; it's getting late. My friend is planning to treat you all to dinner tonight," Jiang Chen said with a smile.
"Come on, a house in Immortal Lotus Garden costs at least ten million yuan. It can't be that your friend is renting it, right?" Chen Renjing remarked sourly as if she had bitten into a lemon.
Jiang Chen ignored Chen Renjing and stepped out first.
Liu Ying quickly urged everyone to follow. Although he didn't know what kind of community Immortal Lotus Garden was, he could tell from the shocked expressions of the Beijing locals that it must be an upscale luxury neighborhood. Liu Ying was looking forward to seeing the astonished faces of Huang Lin's snobbish relatives when they saw the house.
As they left the hotel, Huang Lin's relatives all arrived by car. After all, they were locals from Beijing; while they might not be able to afford houses, having cars was essential. Years ago, due to restrictions on car purchases, everyone rushed to buy cars; those who didn’t buy back then might struggle to get a license plate now.
They initially thought they would need to take taxis but were surprised to find that Huang Lin's relatives had enough cars for everyone.
"I didn't expect Huang Lin's relatives to be quite wealthy; they're all driving Mercedes-Benzes and Audis. No wonder they have such big mouths," Liu Ying murmured as he looked at the luxury cars in the parking lot.
"Cousin, why don't you ride in my new car? My husband just bought it for me last month. Tomorrow I'll use my car as your wedding car," Cousin Huang Lin said as she waved at Huang Lin beside a brand-new BMW 5 Series. Although her tone was warm, her demeanor revealed a hint of pride for her husband.
