“Dad, Mom, Uncle, Aunt, everyone should go together. The more of us there are, the more likely they will release Chen Renjing,” Huang Lin said.
With relatives and friends combined, there were more than thirty people on Huang Lin's side. They were not afraid of a brawl; as soon as Huang Lin spoke, everyone rushed out.
Only Jiang Chen remained still. He didn’t need to move; with so many people already, it was impressive enough.
“Jiang Chen, why aren’t you going?” Gao Kang asked, his earnest demeanor making him feel out of place in such situations.
“With so many people, I’m not needed. You shouldn’t go either,” Jiang Chen replied with a smile, gathering the playing cards on the table and shuffling them.
Gao Kang nodded, finding his reasoning sound, and sat back down without going.
Huang Lin and the group surged out of the room and stormed into the adjacent private room. Jiang Chen thought that with so many of them, they would surely return victorious.
However, less than five minutes later, Huang Lin’s relatives came back looking defeated. Soon after, Huang Lin and the others returned with sorrowful expressions. Wang Shun Yuan and Liu Ying were splattered with red wine and food residue, looking utterly disheveled.
Seeing this, Gao Kang hurriedly grabbed some tissues and approached them.
“Boss, what happened?” Gao Kang asked in surprise. With so many people going over, how could they not intimidate the other side? Instead, they had been doused with wine and leftover food. Did the other side have even more people?
“There's nothing we could do. We were in the wrong from the start. Those people aren’t ordinary; they’re wealthy and influential young heirs from the capital. Chen Renjing had a conflict with one of their girls at a bar near Gongti before. That girl was outnumbered and bullied by Chen Renjing. Today she brought her friends to seek revenge on Chen Renjing. We couldn’t handle those people,” Wang Shun Yuan said helplessly, feeling frustrated. He hadn’t wanted to save Chen Renjing in the first place, and now being covered in mess only made him less inclined to help.
“Shun Yuan is right. Lin Lin, don’t worry about it. We can’t afford to offend those people anyway. They won’t really do anything to Chen Renjing; they’ll probably let her go soon,” Huang Lin's mother added anxiously. She was someone who avoided trouble at all costs; knowing who they were dealing with made Huang Lin’s relatives cower.
In the capital city, some people were simply untouchable; otherwise, one could really struggle to survive there.
“I know they won’t really harm Chen Renjing, but she’s always been proud and high-spirited. If she gets bullied, I’m afraid she might do something drastic. No way—I have to call the police,” Huang Lin said as she took out her phone to report it.
Jiang Chen observed coldly from the sidelines. If calling the police could resolve this issue, then let it be so; he naturally didn’t care about Chen Renjing. However, since Wang Shun Yuan and Liu Ying had been splashed with wine and leftover food, Jiang Chen felt he had to intervene.
Just as Huang Lin was about to call the police, suddenly there was a loud “bang” as the door to the private room was kicked open.
Leading the charge was a Crew-Cut Young Man standing at about six feet tall with silver-dyed hair, wearing a trendy LV hoodie and AJ sneakers—he looked like a fashion icon and was quite handsome too. He strode confidently into the room and locked eyes on Huang Lin with a cold smirk.
“Ha! Who wants to call the police? I’d like to see what happens when you call them in front of me,” he taunted.
Behind this crew-cut man followed a dozen others—both men and women—all young adults. Chen Renjing was being held by two young men who flanked her from behind. At that moment, aside from her slightly disheveled hair, she didn’t seem to have suffered any physical harm; her appearance was still relatively tidy compared to Wang Shun Yuan and Liu Ying’s disarray.
