Ao Lie's words earned Ao Bing the opportunity to continue speaking. Gratefully, Ao Bing glanced at Brother Er before turning to the opposing elders.
"Esteemed elders, I have considered the concerns you raised. Yes, change carries risks, but the risks of inaction are far greater. Look at our Dragon Palace—coral is dying in large swathes, fish populations are dwindling, and the acidity of our waters increases each year. In a few decades, we may have no choice but to leave the East Sea in search of a new habitat."
Ao Bing's words plunged the elders into contemplation. Clearly, they were aware of these issues but had been reluctant to confront them.
At this moment, Ao Long Wang spoke up, his voice deep and authoritative: "The Crown Prince speaks wisely. The Dragon Tribe indeed must change. However, reforms must be gradual; we cannot rush into them."
Respectfully, Ao Bing bowed to his father. "Father, your wisdom is unmatched. My proposal is merely a framework; its implementation will require the collective effort of the entire Dragon Tribe and should be approached step by step."
The Dragon King nodded in satisfaction and then surveyed the elders. "Let us first discuss the adjustment of the Elder Council System. Do any of you have opinions?"
The ensuing discussion lasted three full days. Ao Bing showcased his wisdom and patience, providing reasonable answers to every question raised while also demonstrating a willingness to compromise by appropriately adjusting some overly radical measures.
Ultimately, after arduous negotiations, the Elder Council agreed to most of Ao Bing's proposals, making only minor modifications for implementation: the term for elders would change from indefinite to ten years per term, with one possible re-election; cooperation with humans would begin in the environmental sector before expanding based on circumstances; and access to Dragon Tribe technology and knowledge would undergo strict review to prevent misuse.
When the final resolution was confirmed, Ao Bing let out a long sigh of relief and finally smiled. This was the most significant reform in Dragon Tribe history, and he, as a young prince, had successfully taken the first step.
Ao Lie walked over to Ao Bing and patted his shoulder. "Well done, brother. I always knew you had this ability; you just held yourself back too much before."
Ao Bing smiled at Brother Er. "Thanks to Nezha. He helped me realize that I don't have to be confined by my identity as 'Crown Prince'; I can be myself and pursue my true beliefs."
Mentioning Nezha brought a sly smile to Ao Lie's face. "Speaking of Nezha, how has he been lately? I've heard he's quite busy in the Human World?"
Ao Bing's expression softened. "Yes, aside from attending regular classes, he’s involved in the Demon Orb Research Project, hoping to better understand and control his powers. He’s also actively participating in campus activities, striving to change people's prejudices against Demon Orbs."
Ao Lie clicked his tongue in amazement. "I can't believe that reckless kid has become so mature and responsible now."
Ao Bing couldn't help but chuckle. "People grow up, Brother Er. Just like you; weren't you once cold towards me? Now you've become my staunchest supporter."
Feeling a bit embarrassed, Ao Lie cleared his throat. "Ahem, that was just to toughen your resolve."
The two brothers shared a smile; at that moment, the Dragon Palace felt more harmonious than ever.
However, the path of reform was never smooth sailing.
As Ao Bing's reform proposals began to take shape, clear divisions emerged within the Dragon Tribe. The younger generation supporting reform clashed increasingly with conservative factions opposed to change. Some extremely conservative elders even began secretly conspiring to obstruct the reform process.
