He locked me in the house for three days without giving me any water, forcing me to kneel and admit my mistakes. 0

He laughed triumphantly and said, "What law? What protection order? In this village, I am the law! Do you believe I can make a phone call and have those people throw your application in the trash?" 0

I believed him. I believed him too much. In this remote village, Wang Qiang had connections, he had influence, and even the village Security Guard was his Drinking Buddy. I was just an ordinary rural woman with no background; who would stand up for me? 0

Around noon, Wang Qiang finally woke up. As usual, his temper was even worse after a hangover. 0

"Water! Get me some water!" he bellowed without looking up. 0

I walked over with a cup of water and deliberately placed it heavily on the table, splashing some water out. 0

"What the hell do you mean by that?" He grabbed my arm roughly. "Do you have a problem with me?" 0

"I don't mean anything," I said softly. 0

"What about breakfast?" 0

"There's porridge in the pot." 0

He grunted in dissatisfaction and staggered to the kitchen, scooping a bowl of porridge and swallowing it hastily before pulling out a cigarette and lighting it. 0

"I'm going to drink with my buddies tonight; you go buy two bottles of white liquor," he commanded, blowing out a smoke ring. 0

In the afternoon, I bought the liquor as he instructed. He was sitting in the yard soaking up the sun when I returned and nodded for me to put the bottles down. 0

"I'm going to take a nap first; we'll drink later," he yawned and shuffled back inside, soon falling into a deep sleep again. 0

As the sun began to set, Wang Qiang woke up again, and two of his drinking buddies arrived. They started pouring drinks for each other without hesitation, taking big gulps straight from the bottles. 0

By around 8 PM, Wang Qiang was already drunk again. 0

The two Drinking Buddies began to jeer. Wang Qiang forcefully tugged at my clothes. 0

Hiss! My fair skin was exposed to the air. 0

Ha ha! They erupted into loud laughter. 0

Wang Qiang, always one to get carried away in front of others, became even more unruly with their encouragement, until... 0

I screamed loudly, overwhelmed by a deep sense of humiliation. 0

After I fled inside the house, I felt utterly defeated. 0

I coldly watched the drunken men in the yard from within. 0

Soon, the two Drinking Buddies stumbled away, while Wang Qiang collapsed on the ground, sound asleep. 0

As usual, I mustered my strength and dragged him back to bed. 0

I went to the wood shed and found some rope to tie his hands and feet to the bedpost. 0

"What you did to me, I will make you experience too," I said with a smile, though tears blurred my vision. 0

The next morning, when Wang Qiang woke up, he cursed loudly. 0

"You filthy whore! Why did you tie me up? Let me go, or I swear I'll kill you!" 0

I looked expressionlessly at Wang Qiang as he struggled desperately against his bonds. 0

I took out a sock and stuffed it into his mouth. 0

In a soft voice, I said, "I'll let you go hungry for three days so you can taste what it's like." 0

Wang Qiang's eyes widened in anger as he fought against his restraints, his face flushed as if he wanted to devour me whole. 0

I laughed, my laughter growing louder as I turned and walked out of the room. 0

I had made up my mind. 0

Life would continue like this; the only difference was that the house had become quiet. 0

The neighbors found it strange. 0
"Where's your man?" Aunt Wang asked curiously. 0
"Why hasn't he hit you? He's really not used to it!" 0
Seeing her, someone who usually enjoyed gossip and laughter, I decided to throw caution to the wind. 0
"He went to flirt with your wife," I retorted coldly. 0
I had struck a nerve; the village was buzzing with rumors about her wife flirting with men. 0
She jumped up outside the courtyard, cursing loudly. 0
I grabbed a bucket from the corner and splashed it out. 0
Wow! 0
It turned out that once everything was laid bare, life could be lived so transparently. 0
