"Oh, so it's the young lady of the Qin family. No wonder she has such an aura."
The crowd murmured, inevitably stealing a few extra glances. Those who were familiar with Qin Xiaoya, however, had their eyes fixed on Jiang Chen. It was rare to see Qin Xiaoya attending a gala with a stranger.
"Hey, who is that man? He's with Qin Xiaoya. Could he be her boyfriend?"
"Impossible. That guy is so ordinary; if Qin Xiaoya liked him, there must be something wrong with her eyesight."
"He's probably just a business partner. Qin Xiaoya is the president of the Qin Family Group now; she can't be dating anyone."
A group of people whispered among themselves, but their attention soon shifted elsewhere. After all, the event was filled with stars, some of whom had even more impressive backgrounds than Qin Xiaoya's, so it was natural for them not to keep their focus solely on her.
"Hi, Qin Xiaoya! I didn't expect to see you here tonight. I was planning to look for you tomorrow!" Suddenly, someone rushed up to Qin Xiaoya with enthusiasm.
It was a young woman around the same age as Qin Xiaoya, dressed in a sexy deep-V evening gown that accentuated her figure and left little to the imagination.
"Yuxin, what are you doing back in the country?" Qin Xiaoya exclaimed in surprise.
Yang Yuxin, Qin Xiaoya's childhood friend and the granddaughter of the the Yang Family in Beijing, had been sent to study in the United States after elementary school. Later, she attended the same university as Qin Xiaoya in the U.S. After graduating, while Qin Xiaoya returned home to familiarize herself with the family business, Yang Yuxin stayed behind to develop her career. They hadn't seen each other in two years, so encountering each other in such a setting was unexpected and delightful.
"I'm back for blind dates! I just got back today and didn't have time to tell you before my parents dragged me here," Yang Yuxin said helplessly.
"Blind dates? You’re still going on blind dates?" Qin Xiaoya laughed.
"What can I do? You know my grandfather; he firmly opposes me dating anyone from abroad. Actually, I have a boyfriend in the States—he's super handsome—but I can't bring him home. So this time, I'm just going to appease them and maybe bring him back in a couple of years," Yang Yuxin whispered.
"In a couple of years, you'll be over thirty! If you don't get engaged this time, your parents and grandfather won't let you off easily," Qin Xiaoya teased.
"And what about you? You're only a few months older than me," Yang Yuxin shot back.
"Alright then, let's not talk about this; we’re still good friends," Qin Xiaoya shrugged. They both knew it wasn't suitable to continue that topic.
Shifting gears, Yang Yuxin curiously scrutinized Jiang Chen.
"Qin Xiaoya, who is he?" Yang Yuxin asked.
"Mr. Jiang," Qin Xiaoya replied briefly, unwilling to elaborate on Jiang Chen. However, Yang Yuxin seemed very interested in him.
"It's my first time seeing you with a man; your relationship must be something special, right? He can't be your boyfriend!" Yang Yuxin teased with a wink.
"Oh dear, Yuxin! Don't say such things; it's not true!" Qin Xiaoya felt embarrassed and her face flushed.
Despite her repeated explanations to clarify their relationship, she couldn't help but feel an uncontainable thrill whenever others misunderstood her relationship with Jiang Chen—especially when they thought she was his girlfriend.
"Is that really so?" Yang Yuxin had only been joking, but upon seeing Qin Xiaoya like this, she was instantly left speechless.
