That evening, as Shen Tong was preparing to rest, she was surprised when Xiaoshuang unexpectedly ran into her room. Xiaoshuang sat in the rattan chair opposite the bed, grinning as she looked at her and asked directly, "Sister Tong, what's wrong with you tonight? Ever since you came back from the Back Garden, you've been so distracted."
Shen Tong picked up the teapot and poured a cup of tea for Xiaoshuang, deliberately avoiding her gaze. "It's nothing; I might just be a bit tired."
Xiaoshuang was not so easily fooled. With her eyes slightly narrowed, she pointed out the issue directly: "Is it because of Brother Lin and Cheng Siyun?"
The teapot in Shen Tong's hand trembled, spilling a few drops of tea. She quickly wiped it away. "What does their business have to do with me..."
Xiaoshuang chuckled and shook her head. "Sister Tong, do you know? You are the best at seeing through others, yet you can't see your own heart."
She took a small sip of tea and continued, "Actually, we can all see the feelings between you and Brother Lin."
"That's nonsense." Shen Tong felt her face heat up and hurriedly denied it. "We're just friends."
"Really just friends?" Xiaoshuang set down her teacup. "Then why do you seem so uneasy when you see Brother Lin with Cheng Siyun?"
"I..." Shen Tong hesitated to speak, her voice barely audible as if she were talking to herself. "Between him and me, it's destined..."
"Destined for what?" Xiaoshuang interrupted her. "Sister Tong, your ability is a gift from heaven, not a curse. We all see Brother Lin's feelings for you; he has never regarded you as an outsider, and neither have I or Zigui!"
Shen Tong turned around to look at the serious expression on Xiaoshuang's face, feeling a wave of emotion in her heart. Xiaoshuang was the second person to say such things to her; the first was Lin Mingchang.
What merit did Shen Tong have to encounter such wonderful people who cherished her so much and were willing to accept all of her? Thinking of this made her eyes slightly warm, and her heart stirred, but she still said nothing. Instead, she walked over and hugged Xiaoshuang.
"You little girl, you've learned to talk like an adult... Hurry back to your room and get some sleep; tomorrow is the opening ceremony of the exhibition, and you'll have plenty to do!"
After Xiaoshuang left, Shen Tong sat alone by the window, reflecting on Lin Mingchang's eager explanation when he caught up with her and his hesitant gaze. Perhaps, as Xiaoshuang said, it was time for her to confront her feelings.
The next morning, the four of them arrived punctually at the Hunan Embroidery Exhibition site located in the north of the city. The venue chosen for this exhibition was a vacation villa belonging to a great noble from the Ming Dynasty in Changsha.
After the fifteenth year of the Republic, this villa was taken over by the government and is often used for large exhibitions, charity fundraisers, and business meetings.
The villa is built against the mountains and is quite large, featuring five courtyards that are quite spectacular.
As they approached the entrance, two enormous embroidered screen panels had already been set up on either side of the main door.
A few tall young women stood at the entrance to greet guests, dressed in Xiang Embroidery qipaos and holding embroidered hand fans, guiding the arriving guests one after another.
When they saw the four approaching, a young woman immediately stepped forward with a smile and asked, "May I ask if you have VIP invitations?"
Xiaoshuang took out the four invitations that Cheng Siyun had given her yesterday and handed them over. After examining them, the woman respectfully bowed and said, "So you are esteemed guests of Miss Cheng. Please follow me; Miss Cheng has been waiting for you in the inner hall for quite some time."
