“Buzz—”
The Incinerator emitted a dull starting sound, and the red indicator light instantly lit up, signaling the cold machinery to begin its operation.
“Cremation has started and cannot be stopped. All personnel are prohibited from approaching,” a mechanical female voice coldly announced, echoing in the empty Cremation Room.
Lu Jing Shen caught a glimpse of Su Wan's movement out of the corner of his eye, and his expression changed dramatically. He turned abruptly to stop her, but it was already too late.
They watched helplessly as my “corpse” was slowly fed into the Incinerator. The heavy furnace door slammed shut with a loud clang, sealing off everything from the outside.
Flames erupted instantly, consuming everything in their path. The high temperature distorted the air through the small window of the furnace door.
At that moment, witnessing the roaring flames, Father Su, Mother Su, and Lu Jing Shen finally realized that I was truly dead, completely gone, never to return.
Su Wan was startled by the roar of the Incinerator; her face turned pale, her gaze flickering with an unmistakable hint of panic.
She hurriedly stepped back a few paces, trying to conceal her unease while desperately saying, “No, no! My sister must have secretly run away; it has to be that way! The one burning in the Incinerator is definitely a fake corpse she prepared in advance! Yes, it must be a fake! She’s so cunning; she could definitely pull it off!”
“A fake corpse? Where would she run to? Is she waiting outside the crematorium for you to applaud her?”
The doctor was completely enraged by their stupidity and cruelty, unable to maintain his composure any longer. He pointed at Su Wan and questioned angrily, “Miss Su Wan, what were you doing just now? Don’t think we didn’t see! You pressed the cremation button, didn’t you?!”
Turning to Lu Jing Shen and Father Su and Mother Su, he continued with fury in his voice, “You keep insisting that Miss Su is faking her death. Fine! Even if you don’t believe me or the hospital’s instruments, you must believe in the surveillance footage! The crematorium is filled with cameras; if we pull up the recordings, we’ll know the truth! And there’s also Ashes—bones! Once the cremation is over, we can identify the bones and even do DNA tests!”
They had reached this point, yet they were still deceiving themselves, unwilling to believe that I was already dead.
Or perhaps they simply refused to admit that they were the true murderers who had killed me?
The light in the monitoring room was dim, and the enormous screen displayed everything happening in the Cremation Room.
A few people silently stared at the screen, the atmosphere so oppressive it was hard to breathe.
I, or rather my spirit, floated behind them, watching this delayed "revelation of truth" with great interest.
The footage began to play, captured from a corner of the Cremation Room at an angle facing the furnace door.
My "body" was pushed inside, with Su Wan following closely behind, her steps unsteady and her face pale.
Hmph, she was putting on quite a show.
"Did you see clearly?" The doctor broke the silence, his voice trembling slightly but mostly filled with a sense of relief at finally clearing his name. "Miss Su Wan, how will you argue your way out of this?"
On the screen, Su Wan approached the Incinerator's control panel and without hesitation pressed the red start button.
Lu Jing Shen's breath caught sharply, his clenched fists cracking with tension.
Father Su and Mother Su stood there as if struck by lightning, frozen in shock as their faces drained of all color.
They finally saw it, truly and clearly. It was not a matter of "possibly" or "maybe," but rather Su Wan herself, who pressed the button that sent me to hell.
I couldn't help but roll my eyes in the air.
Tsk, where were they before? Weren't they all so confident, insisting that I was just playing dead? Now they see it, with the surveillance footage capturing everything in crystal clarity. What else could they possibly say?
