On the platform, Yin Qian was watching the soldiers' drills with a group of people. As he observed the impressive momentum of the troops, a smile spread across his face. All of this was thanks to He Er Gou.
"Xian Zhi, as the Big Dog Head of the army, what do you think of these soldiers' training?"
"Senior, your military management is commendable. These soldiers have been tempered by war, and their spirit is significantly stronger than before. The others may not understand and dare not make rash judgments," Mo Wen replied, sensing Yin Qian's satisfaction in his words. The soldiers in the field exuded a fierce aura. Although the City Defense Camp had recently recruited some soldiers, they were certainly not as formidable as those present. Mo Wen would not exaggerate just to please Yin Qian; he aimed for an honest assessment.
"Haha, Old Man must thank Xian Zhi properly! This time, my Yinzhou Garrison has achieved a great victory against the invading enemy, and Xian Zhi played an indispensable role. First, you solved my long-standing weapon issues, and then you gifted me with profound military strategies. Without these, my Yinzhou Garrison would have paid a heavy price to defeat the enemy, and it would have been uncertain whether we could hold onto Yinzhou," Yin Qian laughed heartily. Although there were losses in their encounter with the enemy, they were within an acceptable range for him, and they had captured a large number of enemy soldiers who could be integrated into their own ranks.
"Senior overestimates my contributions; I merely offered some suggestions without exerting any effort," Mo Wen said modestly. He was not concerned about accolades; rather, he hoped that when he departed, Yin Qian would reward him generously since he was now so impoverished that he had begun selling his possessions.
"Not being arrogant or impatient is rare indeed. Well then, in front of Old Man, Xian Zhi need not be overly humble. How about accompanying Old Man for a stroll?" Yin Qian said with a smile, looking at Mo Wen like a satisfied old fox observing a young one.
"Please lead the way, Senior," Mo Wen replied with a cupped fist, inwardly lamenting his situation.
"You all continue your drills," Yin Qian instructed the officers as he turned away.
In the beast cart returning to the general's residence, only Yin Qian and Mo Wen were present. At this moment, Yin Qian had changed into a new outfit that made him resemble a wealthy gentleman. As they rode in silence, neither spoke. The coachman had evidently received instructions from his master and stopped the cart in an alley. The two men disembarked, and after winding through several turns, they emerged onto a bustling main street—the most prosperous avenue in Yinzhou City. Although the city had recently endured a siege by the Black Tiger Camp and commerce had not fully recovered, the lively atmosphere of the street was already comparable to pre-war times.
"Oh! Yin Laoye, what brings you here?" shopkeeper looked up from counting money at a teahouse and was somewhat surprised to see Yin Qian and Mo Wen.
"What? Old Man can’t visit your establishment anymore?" Yin Qian feigned displeasure. From their expressions, Mo Wen could tell that Yin Qian was a regular here.
"Of course not! It’s just that you haven’t visited for quite some time! Look at today; my shop is filled with esteemed guests! I can tell just by counting that there must be distinguished visitors today..." shopkeeper immediately rushed out with a beaming smile.
"Alright then, Old Man is just here to pass the time today; let’s stick to our usual arrangement," Yin Qian waved his hand dismissively.
"Understood!" With that, shopkeeper led them upstairs to a private room.
"Yin Laoye, would you like me to arrange for servants?" shopkeeper asked before stepping out since sometimes this esteemed guest required service while other times he did not—unlike other regulars who were easier to predict.
