"Of course, I won't let you, Mr. Jiang, make a sacrifice without compensation. If you have any requests, feel free to mention them," Zeng Xianyi said.
"Zeng Lao, you're putting me in a bit of a bind here," Jiang Chen chuckled. This old man was quite cunning, putting on a pitiful act of a hero who had nowhere to go.
"Mr. Jiang, you are an extraordinary person. I know that those like you prefer to roam freely and dislike constraints. If you agree to be the Chief Instructor, I can grant you the utmost freedom. Even if it’s just an honorary title of instructor, you can come by occasionally to offer guidance, just like Ye Jian Sheng," Zeng Xianyi urged kindly.
"Let's not compare me to him; I haven't been here to offer guidance for many years," Ye Xiaoying said somewhat shyly. After his defeat at the hands of Ishii Ansei, he had secluded himself in Changbai Mountain, dedicating over twenty years to perfecting his swordsmanship.
With Zeng Xianyi laying it all out like this, what could Jiang Chen do? He reluctantly accepted the offer; even if it was just a nominal title, it would give him some official backing. Although he didn't care much for such connections, having one could save him a lot of trouble.
"Zeng Lao, since you've put it this way, I won't refuse. But let me make it clear that as an honorary instructor, I won't have much time to guide these soldiers. However, since I've accepted the title, even if it's just in name, I will still provide assistance," Jiang Chen stated.
"I understand," Zeng Xianyi replied with a smile upon hearing Jiang Chen's agreement. With someone as talented as Jiang Chen on board, the authorities would feel more secure if they could integrate him into their ranks.
Now that Jiang Chen had agreed to be the Chief Instructor of the Martial Arts Special Forces, he would be considered part of the official structure.
"Mr. Jiang—uh, no, I should call you Jiang Major General now. Due to the unique nature of our Martial Arts Special Forces, the rank for Chief Instructor is directly set at Major General," Zeng Xianyi explained. He aimed to pull Jiang Chen into the military fold and thus conferred the rank at once.
Of course, Zeng Xianyi knew that Ye Xiaoying wouldn’t think much of a Major General rank, let alone someone as formidable as Jiang Chen. However, that was the highest rank he could offer; beyond that, he lacked the authority.
Jiang Chen didn’t say much more; he accepted the Major General rank without issue.
"By the way, Jiang Major General, I'll introduce you to the other instructors shortly, including Liu Liangmei. They may not know you well and might be skeptical due to your youth. If there are any verbal conflicts later on, please don’t take offense," Zeng Xianyi reminded him.
"I'm not that petty," Jiang Chen replied with a smile.
Upon hearing this, Ye Xiaoying glanced at Jiang Chen again with raised eyebrows; he was fearless and unrestrained. Anyone who dared offend Jiang Chen would likely face dire consequences.
"Instructor Liu!" Zeng Xianyi called out as he approached Liu Liangmei.
"Zeng Lao, is there something you need?" Liu Liangmei asked as she allowed her students to practice on their own and stepped forward to address Zeng Xianyi.
As for Ye Xiaoying and Jiang Chen, Liu Liangmei didn’t spare them a second glance.
"I'd like to introduce you to someone. This is Mr. Jiang; he will be the Chief Instructor of our Martial Arts Special Forces from now on," Zeng Xianyi announced with authority in his voice that resonated not only with Liu Liangmei but also caught the attention of nearby female Special Forces members.
The once spacious room was filled with the continuous crack of whips, but everyone was momentarily stunned by Zeng Xianyi's sudden mention of the "Appointment Document." All eyes turned toward Jiang Chen.
