In the Calderia Kingdom, there exists a disciplinary mechanism within the Noble Council that is rarely used: the Memory Examination Court.
"Through magical means, the memories of those involved are extracted to determine whether they have ever harbored thoughts that violate noble honor and orthodox values."
In simpler terms, it can pull out that one time you cursed the nobility from your mind and project it for all to see.
Any normal person would gasp at the thought of such a system. However, upon hearing this, Nora simply stated, "I request to utilize it."
That morning, the doors of the court annex were pushed open, and Nora Thorn walked in wearing a standard academy uniform, her demeanor light and carefree. She held in her hand a neatly written letter titled: "Request for Public Hearing Regarding the Application of the 'Memory Examination Mechanism' Related to Her Highness Sigried Lanser's Incident at the Royal Magic Workshop Thirteen Years Ago."
Attached were two magical crystals, a fragment of her mother's death record, archival footage of noble conduct, testimonies from five students, and a signed Emotion Recognition Sphere Beta.
"Are you sure you're not submitting an annual academic paper?" the attending official asked in bewilderment.
"Close enough," Nora smiled. "Only the conclusion will be explosive."
The Noble Council had no choice but to convene a public hearing. According to Article 99 of the Council Code: "If a commoner initiates a challenge based on at least three irrefutable pieces of evidence, the nobility must appear in court to clarify in order to uphold the 'Immaculate Image of Bloodline.'"
In other words, even if you are a princess, if surrounded by evidence, you must personally attend.
On the day of the hearing, the atmosphere was grand. Academy students filled the courtroom barriers, and the Hot Pot Alliance had hung a massive banner on the wall: "Noble Memories, Welcome to Turn the Page!"
Her Highness Siglinde entered wearing noble robes, her demeanor still dignified but with an added pallor to her complexion. Beside her stood three seasoned noble advisors, resembling three magical Dixuna onions.
Nora stood on the opposite side, her father Elias Thorn behind her—dressed in work attire and sporting a pot lid, exuding an aura akin to an amateur technician about to repair noble thought processes.
The court began. The Chief Justice was an old wizard with a hoarse voice that sounded like flipping through a spellbook:
"Today we will review case number 9247. Based on the magical evidence provided by the applicant, we will initiate the memory examination procedure. The subject of examination is Sigrid Lancer."
He looked at Nora. "Are you sure you want to extract her private memories? Including her childhood?"
"Confirmed," Nora nodded. "I request to extract all memory fragments from Thirteen Years Ago, specifically the three hours leading up to the explosion at the Royal Magic Workshop and one hour after."
"That will affect her public image," a noble advisor hurriedly interjected.
"Her public image has always been maintained by illusion," the Emotion Recognition Sphere Beta interjected.
"The court does not accept statements from unregistered magical items," the Old Wizard reminded.
"Fine, then I'll pretend to be Nora's assistant."
"But you are not a legally registered magical assistant."
"Then I will apply for registration now, profession name: Noble Behavior Reporting Sphere."
The Old Wizard fell silent for three seconds. "Approved."
The memory examination began.
Three magical arrays appeared in the air: one for scanning, two for guiding, and three for projection.
A golden light flickered at Sigrid's forehead, revealing her appearance from Thirteen Years Ago—dressed in a red robe, holding a magic rune board, her eyes filled with excitement.
"I just need to connect this, and that Half-Blood Eileen won't stand a chance," she whispered, operating the device while muttering, "Let her die in the Royal Magic Workshop; that would conveniently open up a position for my father's people."
The room erupted in an uproar.
The noble advisor stood up in protest. "This is just a memory; it doesn't mean she actually did it!"
The Emotion Recognition Sphere Beta immediately shouted, "What you just thought was 'How could this be revealed!' I noted that down!"
Nora calmly spoke, "This is content she has kept in her mind for thirteen years; I didn't edit it."
She stepped forward and looked at the Judgment Seat. "I do not request punishment for her."
"What do you request then?" the Chief Justice frowned.
"I request a public announcement acknowledging that Eileen Black was not the main cause of the incident."
“Is there anything else?”
“I request the removal of one item from her honor roll: ‘Her Highness the Princess has never done anything unworthy of nobility.’”
The air froze for three seconds.
The Old Wizard slowly nodded.
“Approved.”
At the moment the trial concluded, Nora did not look back; she simply walked out of the hall.
The Emotion Recognition Sphere Beta spoke from her shoulder, “You didn’t ask for punishment because you know that the greatest fear of nobility is losing face.”
“Paint doesn’t have thick skin,” Nora replied lightly, “but a face is something that will be remembered.”
That night, an anonymous satirical poem was posted at the entrance of the Noble Council:
“Nobility's memory is like gold leaf, the more it is peeled, the thinner it becomes;
Bloodline glory is like makeup, it washes off when faced with truth.”
