After a long while, Gao Jun's warm chest finally pulled me away from the painful memories. I lifted my head and said unhappily, "Why didn't they take the child with them? How could they bear to leave such a small child alone at home? You have no idea how sad and scared that little girl must be right now!" 0

Gao Jun cupped my face and gently kissed my forehead. "Alright, don't think too much about it. They must have their own difficulties. When we have a daughter, we'll take her with us wherever we go, okay?" 0

I smiled down at this thought. After all, if the parents weren’t worried, why should I be anxious here? Looking back at the window, I saw no sunlight streaming in, just a dark void. The thought that the little girl might still be staring at us from that window sent a chill down my spine. 0

"Let's go back inside; I don't want to stay on the balcony any longer," I said, tugging at Gao Jun's shirt. 0

He immediately agreed. "Sure, it's pretty messy inside anyway; we need to tidy up." 0

In the living room, there was a double bed, a bedside table, and a dressing table, which seemed to have been left behind by the previous occupants. A large wardrobe stood by the bedroom door. It was an old-fashioned type, much larger than the styles popular today, made of thick, sturdy wood that faintly glimmered with a dark sheen. 0

"Wow, how did they even get this wardrobe in here? It's taller than the door!" Gao Jun suddenly asked in surprise. 0

I almost choked on my breath; sometimes he could be so clueless. 0

"Just lay it down to move it in! Do you think everyone is as slow as you?" 0

Gao Jun's face lit up with realization as he chuckled foolishly. 0

"But such a big wardrobe can hold quite a lot of things," I said while opening the cabinet doors. 0

The dampness inside was even worse; even the wooden boards felt moist to the touch. I frowned; it seemed we couldn't put our clothes in there for now. Fortunately, we didn’t bring too many items with us; the bedside table in the bedroom would suffice. 0

The living room served as Gao Jun's studio. Before I arrived, Gao Jun had already tidied up the place a bit, moving over his drawing table, mattress, thermos, and even an old refrigerator gifted by Teacher He from his dormitory. It didn’t take long to finish arranging everything. Once everything was in order, I realized that although I had brought my daily necessities and a change of clothes, I still lacked a blanket for sleeping at night. 0

"Why not just buy a new one? It’s too much trouble to keep moving it back and forth, and who knows when I might need to stay over there again," I suggested. 0

"Alright," Gao Jun nodded. "There are also some small things we need to pick up. Let’s go grab a meal while we’re at it to celebrate moving into our new home! I'm starving." 0

Now that he mentioned it, my stomach began to growl as well. Checking the time, it was almost three in the afternoon. 0

"How about we go to Dongyuan Restaurant for some boiled fish?" I proposed. 0

Gao Jun readily agreed, "Sounds good, let’s go!" 0

As we passed by Zhao Feng's house, I remembered the poor girl locked inside and wondered if she had eaten lunch yet. 0

During our meal, Gao Jun excitedly ordered two bottles of beer. Thinking about how starting today I could live with the person I loved, I joined him in drinking a large glass despite usually avoiding alcohol. We chatted and drank, and our meal stretched over two hours; it seemed like we could skip dinner tonight. 0
