The bloodstains in the room were scattered across the floor and windowsill, clearly much easier to deal with than the wooden railing on the balcony. 0

I borrowed a few candles from Jiang Ping and lit them in the house. For the next while, Gao Jun and I divided our tasks: I wiped away any footprints, fingerprints, and most of the bloodstains from the windowsill and inside the room, while Gao Jun focused on using a brush to cover up the stains that couldn’t be removed. 0

As we busied ourselves, the desiccated body of the girl lay quietly beside us. Whenever Gao Jun glanced at her, a deep sorrow would flicker in his eyes. To him, she was a great work of art that had been destroyed. The vibrant life had vanished with the shattering of the wax layer. 0

Yet, I preferred to believe that the girl’s soul had found its release. 0

Once everything was taken care of and I was certain no traces were left behind, I dialed Lan Officer's number. 0

We were new tenants who had just moved in, and while organizing our room tonight, we accidentally discovered a hidden chamber in the house. Inside was a wax figure, which we inadvertently broke, revealing the body of a girl sealed within the wax. I didn’t mention my nightmare or Gao Jun’s obsession with the wax figure. 0

Before long, the police arrived at the scene. There was nothing suspicious about the traces in the room, and after examining the body, it was determined that the girl had died two years ago. 0

Naturally, no one could stay in the house for now. We cooperated with the police to complete our statements, packed our belongings, and prepared to leave. 0

Just as we were about to step out, Lan Officer suddenly rushed out from inspecting the scene in the hidden chamber. “Wait a moment!” 0

Gao Jun and I exchanged glances and halted, feeling an uneasy flutter in our hearts. 0

“I’d like to ask you some questions regarding the homicide that occurred last night,” Lan Officer said, looking at Gao Jun. “Oh, you should know about this, right?” 0

“I know? What… do you mean?” Gao Jun asked nervously, and I felt cold sweat forming in my palms. 0

"What's wrong? Didn't you tell him the situation?" the Lan Officer looked at me in surprise, a hint of reproach in his tone. 0

"Oh, I mentioned it, I just forgot for a moment," Gao Jun sighed in relief, quickly putting on a face as if he had just remembered. 0

The Lan Officer pulled out a photo and handed it over. "We found the victim's information. This is a photo of him when he was alive. Please take a good look and see if you've seen this person recently." 0

Gao Jun took the photo, and I leaned in to look as well. 0

When I saw the person in the photo, I nearly gasped in shock! 0

How could it be him?! 0

I finally understood why that silhouette felt familiar—this face was one I would never forget! 0

I felt an overwhelming surge of emotion, my breath quickening. The Lan Officer noticed my reaction and asked, "What's wrong? Have you seen this person?" 0

"No, no, I haven't," I quickly concealed my feelings. "I just think he looks so fierce; it's a bit frightening." 0

The Lan Officer smiled in relief and said, "You have a good eye; this person is a wanted fugitive. By the way, have you seen him?" He turned back to ask Gao Jun. 0

"I haven't seen him," Gao Jun said after examining the photo closely, shaking his head. 0

The Lan Officer let out a disappointed "oh" and said, "Well, that's fine. You can go now." 0

As we stepped outside, Gao Jun decided to take me back to my original dormitory first. The photo had left me feeling a bit dazed throughout the journey. 0

Gao Jun seemed to have noticed something was off with me. As soon as we entered the dorm, he closed the door, leaving just the two of us in the room. 0

"Xiao Yun, do you feel like you've seen the person in that photo somewhere before?" he asked cautiously. 0

I stood there in a daze, as if in a dream, tears silently streaming down my face. 0

Gao Jun appeared flustered. "What's wrong, Xiao Yun? If you don't want to talk about it, that's fine, but please don't cry." 0

I collapsed into Gao Jun's arms, overwhelmed with emotions, and sobbed, "That person... that person is the murderer of my parents." 0

"What?" Gao Jun exclaimed in shock. "Are you sure?" 0

"I can't be mistaken! The scar on his face is something I'll never forget!" 0

Gao Jun gently stroked my long hair, murmuring thoughtfully, "So that's how it is... I understand now... it's truly a form of retribution..." 0

"Yes, I never expected he would die at your hands," I said, holding onto Gao Jun tightly. "It's just a pity I couldn't avenge my parents myself." 0

Gao Jun cupped my face in his hands and looked at me, a strange smile spreading across his face—one that held a hint of mystery and pride, reminiscent of his expression before giving me a birthday gift. 0
