“Director Li, you jest. How could I not want to see you? It’s just that I truly couldn’t get out of bed earlier. Please forgive me,” Liao Yangmai apologized, leaving the matter unsaid.
The Liao Family, though shocked, dared not ask further, their admiration for Mr. Jiang only deepening.
“Ha ha, it seems my reputation isn’t enough after all. This time, I owe it all to Mr. Jiang,” Li Yang said with a smile toward Jiang Chen, attempting to ease the tension between them.
Jiang Chen smiled slightly in response.
“Director Li, I believe everyone hasn’t eaten yet. Allow me to extend my hospitality and let you all taste some local delicacies from Xiangxi. However, I need to change my clothes first. Mr. Jiang, Director Li, let me have someone take you over; I’ll join you shortly,” Liao Yangmai said politely.
Jiang Chen, Li Yang, Zeng Xianyi, and the others went ahead first. The restaurant Liao mentioned was a private establishment by the Tuojiang River, owned by the Liao Family. It resembled a tall tower overlooking the river and was quite prominent. From the highest floor of the restaurant, one could gaze down at the entire landscape of Fenglin City.
“Dining here is quite delightful. If I were a cultured man, I would surely compose a poem like the ancients,” Zeng Xianyi remarked as he leaned against the railing, watching the winding Tuojiang River flow by, filled with emotion.
Although everyone had come to Xiangxi on an important mission, the beautiful scenery allowed them to relax their minds temporarily.
Liao Yangmai hurried home to change clothes and brought along several elders from the Liao Family and two young girls from the family. These two girls were among the most beautiful in the Liao Family and were both maidens.
Of course, Liao Yangmai knew that Jiang Chen would not be interested in them; he had brought them merely to serve drinks at the table.
“Yangmai, you are indeed strong-willed! We are fortunate to have someone like Mr. Jiang here,” one of the elders from the Liao Family remarked as they sat in the car.
“Yes, we are lucky! If Mr. Jiang had arrived even a moment later, who knows what would have happened to our Liao Family at the hands of the Holy Witch Cult!” Liao Yangmai replied.
“By the way, Yangmai, what happened in the hospital earlier? How did you recover so quickly?”
“Mr. Jiang has great powers; as for the details, they cannot be spoken of,” Liao Yangmai said with a smile.
Upon arriving at the restaurant and settling down, naturally Jiang Chen took the seat of honor this time without any objections from Li Yang.
During the meal, they drank and discussed strategies against the Holy Witch Cult.
“Mr. Jiang, several elders from the Holy Witch Cult have come this time. Their strength is comparable to that of our Xiangxi Witch Clan’s grand sorcerers—deep and unfathomable. How about this: I’ll invite them here tonight; then you can decide how to deal with them,” Liao Yangmai suggested with a grin.
Feeling confident with Jiang Chen as his backing, he no longer feared the Holy Witch Cult at all.
“We can’t meet here; if things turn violent, it would be too conspicuous,” Li Yang quickly interjected.
“Director Li, you’re mistaken. With Mr. Jiang here, taking them down would be as easy as killing chickens without alarming anyone outside,” Liao Yangmai laughed. After glancing at Jiang Chen and seeing his calm demeanor, he knew he had flattered him correctly.
