Before nightfall, Fang Zigui returned to the agreed dinner location. Long Tianming had already set up a banquet in the neighboring stilted building, with a table full of Miao Family specialties: Sour Fish, Sticky Rice Steamed Meat, Miao Sour Meat, and several jars of locally brewed Rice Wine.
"Doctor Fang has finally returned," Long Tianming said as he stood to greet him, raising a rough ceramic wine bowl. "We’ve been waiting for you. Come, try this Miao Family homemade Rice Wine, brewed with mountain spring water and high-quality glutinous rice; it has a unique flavor."
Lin Mingchang, Shen Tong, and Ruan Xiaoshuang were already seated. When Fang Zigui returned, the slightly tense atmosphere lightened a bit. Xiaoshuang pulled Fang Zigui down to sit and asked, "How was it? Did you enjoy your conversation with Old Miao Doctor?"
Fang Zigui smiled and replied, "Old Miao Doctor is highly skilled; I naturally benefited greatly."
During the meal, Long Tianming frequently toasted the guests, and the conversation roamed from topic to topic. Shen Tong listened absently to the chatter around her, but her Right Eye sensed something unusual; it felt as if there was a peculiar aura not far away.
Seizing a moment when Lin Mingchang and Long Tianming were deep in conversation, Shen Tong quietly said to Ruan Xiaoshuang beside her, "I need to step out for a moment." She then rose from the banquet and followed that strange aura toward the back of the village.
The night was deepening, and most people in the village had already gone to rest; only a few flickering oil lamps cast dim light through the windows of wooden buildings. From a distance came the calls of Night Owls as Shen Tong made her way to the edge of the village in front of a Brick-and-Tile Cottage.
This Brick-and-Tile Cottage was lower than the typical stilted buildings, with walls made of Black Wooden Planks. It appeared somewhat dilapidated, likely having been uninhabited for quite some time. However, Shen Tong noticed that faint yellow light seeped through the cracks of the door and windows. Moreover, the peculiar aura she sensed emanated from this very cottage.
She quietly approached and came to the window, peering inside through a narrow gap. The room was dimly lit by a single candle but was sufficient for her to see what was happening inside.
In the middle of the room crouched a figure, busy with something while facing away from the window. Shen Tong adjusted her angle slightly and finally recognized the person—it was the elderly woman she had seen at Holy Love Hospital!
The woman wore a black Miao Costume and had a specially made Wooden Beehive placed before her. Dozens of Golden Money Bees buzzed around a small dark brown Mud Sculpture in her hands, creating a humming sound. The Mud Sculpture had an odd shape that vaguely resembled a human form but was twisted and deformed.
In Shen Tong's vision, the old woman was enveloped in a strange dark purple aura, resembling smoke and mist, reminiscent yet distinct from the Toxic Miasma surrounding the corpse. The aura emanating from the deceased was a dispersed form of Toxic Miasma, while the old woman's presence seemed to be an unmanifested source of Toxic Miasma—a Gu Qi generated naturally from within.
Soon, something even more chilling occurred for Shen Tong. A trickle of dark red liquid began to seep from the Mud Sculpture in the old woman's hands. The Golden Money Bees appeared to be utterly captivated by this liquid, eagerly buzzing over to consume it.
She muttered incantations under her breath at an astonishing speed, making it difficult for Shen Tong to discern her words. Just as he leaned in closer to listen intently, the edge of his clothing accidentally snagged on a nail in the window frame, producing a faint "scrape" sound. The old woman suddenly lifted her head, her murky eyes fixed intently on the outside.
