Lou Yu had been distracted at work these past few days, and he couldn't quite understand why he had said such things to Ye Chen that day.
Clearly, Ye Chen was a Zhong Yong, yet Lou Yu found himself inexplicably drawn to him, often unconsciously following Ye Chen's figure with his gaze.
Thinking back to his embarrassing moment that day, Lou Yu clenched his right fist and angrily struck a nearby tree. The trunk trembled slightly, causing several leaves to flutter down.
At that moment, he heard the soldiers in the camp chatting nearby.
"Hey, have you heard? That Doctor Ye from the Medical Camp is a Kun Ze."
"Come on, you're just blowing smoke. Sure, he looks better than the average Zhong Yong, but calling him a Kun Ze? Besides, how come no one in the Military Camp has noticed this for so long? You’re the first Zhong Yong to discover it? Who’s going to believe that?"
"No, listen to me. This Ye Chen is not an ordinary person. I heard from those brothers working under General He in the Main Tent that Ye Chen is the son of King Huai'an. He ran away from home after a fight with his family and came to the army incognito. Now his royal father has sent a letter to General He asking him to come home."
"Is this news reliable? A Kun Ze just wandering around the Military Camp? And what about his Xin Xiang? How has no one discovered this for so long?" The listener was starting to doubt, his brow furrowing in confusion.
"Am I lying to you? When have I ever misled you with news from General He? And can such matters be fabricated? The trusted aides sent by King Huai'an will be coming to take him home in a few days."
Lou Yu could hardly absorb the rest of their conversation. He stood frozen for a moment before suddenly igniting like a powder keg, swiftly moving toward Ye Chen's direction with increasing speed, creating a gust of wind behind him.
Ye Chen was actually the son of King Huai'an and a Kun Ze! This meant that he and Ye Chen could be together.
Lou Yu was in such a hurry that he didn’t catch the fact that the two men were still talking behind him.
“Isn’t this Pei Guanjing the adopted son of the Regent? Moreover…” One person leaned closer to another, cupping his hand to his ear and whispering, “Pei Guanjing is also engaged to Doctor Ye. You’d think they’re just pretending to be master and apprentice in the Military Camp, but isn’t that a bit playful?”
After hearing this, the other person burst into laughter. “Who knows? Maybe they just find the Military Camp exciting.”
Meanwhile, Ye Chen had been feeling restless until Chef Wang and a few others came looking for him. It was then he learned that He Mu Ming had revealed his identity as Kun Ze. Now that everyone knew he was the son of King Huai'an, naturally, no one dared to touch him.
When Pei Guanjing was around in the Medical Camp, few people dared to give him a hard time. However, during his time in the Canteen, without anyone to protect him, he had faced disdain from the more aggressive soldiers.
“Ye Chen, are you really Kun Ze? But why don’t you have Xin Xiang?”
Chef Wang looked shocked, his eyes wide open. He still couldn’t wrap his head around how someone he had known for so long could suddenly transform from Zhong Yong into Kun Ze.
Meanwhile, Shuanzi and Fu Gui curiously examined Ye Chen from top to bottom and then back up again, their eyes filled with curiosity. They wanted to reach out and touch him but hesitated, remembering his current status and retracting their hands awkwardly.
“Ye Chen, does that mean you’re now the Little Prince? That’s not fair! If you had told us earlier, we would have treated you like royalty!”
Fu Gui elbowed Zhuzi playfully while Shuanzi steadied himself with his cane.
“It’s been said that Ye Chen snuck out. If he reveals his identity, would General He still keep him here?”
“That’s true.” Shuanzi scratched his head, looking a bit embarrassed as a faint blush crept onto his face.
Ye Chen was completely dumbfounded. How could it be that just a short while after returning from He Mu Ming's side, everyone in the Military Camp already knew?!
Before Ye Chen could respond, Pei Guanjing, who had been observing the situation from his high table, raised his eyebrows slightly and spoke in a calm tone, “Gentlemen, the time has come. Is there anything else you wish to say to Ye Chen?”
Chef Wang glanced at him and then turned back to Ye Chen, pondering for a moment before continuing, “Ye Chen, or rather, Little Prince, when do you plan to leave the Military Camp? We would like to see you off.”
Shuanzi and Fu Gui quickly nodded in agreement, eagerly adding, “Yes! If you leave, we won’t know when we’ll have the chance to meet again.”
Ye Chen smiled awkwardly, a gentle expression crossing his face. “Please don’t call me that; just Ye Chen is fine. It sounds a bit strange when you say it that way. We plan to leave in about five days. When my father’s confidant arrives, I will leave with Pei Guanjing. You can come to see me off then. Even if we don’t meet again in the future, as the saying goes, ‘Though separated by mountains and rivers, we are still under the same sky.’ We share this world together.”
Though Chef Wang and the others didn’t fully understand the poetic line Ye Chen quoted, they still felt reluctant to see him go. By the end of their visit, the eyes of these big men glistened with unshed tears as they left Pei Guanjing’s tent, turning back several times as if they were watching a daughter they had raised marry and depart.
Not long after they left, another visitor arrived.
The young man was dressed in a deep green private robe. He appeared somewhat slender but exuded an air of lean strength. Striding forward confidently, he swung open the tent flap without so much as a greeting and walked straight inside. Upon turning around and spotting Ye Chen sitting on a low stool, his face lit up with joy as he exclaimed loudly, “Ye Chen! I want to marry you!”
The shiny silver piece in Ye Chen’s hand fell to the ground with a loud “thud.”
Ye Chen was completely stunned, his eyes wide open in disbelief as he asked, “What did you just say?”
